Significance and Use4.1 This classification provides a uniform set of usagedefini

8、tions within the bicycle industry. Included within thisclassification is a set of graphical indicators to provide retailersand consumers with an indication of the intended use of aparticular bicycle or aftermarket components.5. Basis of Classification5.1 Uses:5.1.1 Condition 0This is a set of condit

9、ions for operationof a childrens bicycle under appropriate parental supervisionin a manner consistent with the childs bicycling skills.Bicycles intended for this use are “sidewalk bicycles.” Inaddition, bicycles intended for this condition are limited toriders at least three years old and weighing l

10、ess than 36 kg (80lb). Bicycles intended for this use classification shall beidentified in accordance with the labeling requirements ofSection 6 using the graphical symbol (icon) illustrated in Fig.1. 11、a set of conditions for theoperation of a bicycle on a regular paved surface where thetires are intended to maintain ground contact. Bicycles in-tended for this use classification shall be identified in accor-dance with the labeling requirements of Section 6 using thegraphical symbol (icon) illustra

12、ted in Fig. 2. The icon in thisfigure is green on a white background with a black border.5.1.3 Condition 2This is a set of conditions for theoperation of a bicycle that includes Condition 1 as well asunpaved and gravel roads and trails with moderate grades. Inthis set of conditions, contact with irr

13、egular terrain and loss oftire contact with the ground may occur. Drops are intended tobe limited to 15 cm (6 in.) or less. Bicycles intended for thisuse classification shall be identified in accordance with thelabeling requirements of Section 6 using the graphical symbol(icon) illustrated in Fig. 3

18、ue on a white background with a black border.5.1.5 Condition 4This is a set of conditions for operationof a bicycle that includes Conditions 1, 2, and 3, or downhillgrades on rough trails at speeds less than 40 km/h (25 mph), orboth. Jumps are intended to be less than 122 cm (48 in.).Bicycles intend

19、ed for this use classification shall be identifiedin accordance with the labeling requirements of Section 6 usingthe graphical symbol (icon) illustrated in Fig. 5. The icon inthis figure is black on a white background with a black border.5.1.6 Condition 5This is a set of conditions for operationof a

20、 bicycle that includes Conditions 1, 2, 3, and 4; extremejumping; or downhill grades on rough trails at speeds in excessof 40 km/h (25 mph); or a combination thereof. Bicyclesintended for this use classification shall be identified inaccordance with the labeling requirements of Section 6 usingthe gr

21、aphical symbol (icon) illustrated in Fig. 6. The icon inthis figure is black on a white background with a black border.6. Labeling6.1 Bicycle frames shall bear a permanent representation ofthe graphical indicator (icon) depicting the appropriate usecondition in a conspicuous location. That marking s

23、osenumbers are considered optional and may be omitted from thebicycle label, owners manual, instructions, packaging, orcomponents, or a combination thereof.6.2 The manual or instructions included with the bicycleshall contain a summary of the descriptions in Section 5 andthe associated graphical ind

24、icators (icons) as shown in Fig. 1,Fig. 2, Fig. 3, Fig. 4, and Fig. 5 for all use conditions definedin this classification. The manual or instructions will beconsidered in compliance with this classification even whennot printed in color. The manual shall also explain that ridingin higher-numbered c

25、onditions increases the forces on thebicycle and the risk of injury to the rider.6.3 Bicycles sold in a carton shall have printed on the cartonor a label affixed to the carton the graphical indicator of theintended use as well as the description of that use.7.
