、Designation: F 387 02Standard Test Method forMeasuring Thickness of Resilient Floor Covering With FoamLayer1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F 387; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last
、 revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers the determinatio
、n of the thick-ness of resilient non-textile floor coverings containing a foamlayer as part of the construction.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate saf
、ety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Significance and Use2.1 The overall thickness or caliper of resilient flooring is abasic physical property. However, conventional means ofmeasuring the thickness, such as a hand micrometer or regulard
、ial micrometer, are not applicable for foam-layer products dueto the error from compressing the foam. This test methodminimizes this type of measuring error and still retains theconvenience and speed of measurement.2.2 Measurement of the product thickness may be requiredfor quality control purposes
、or to ensure compliance withapplicable specifications.3. Apparatus3.1 The apparatus shall consist of a comparator stand havinga flat anvil base at least 6 in. (15 cm) square, equipped with athickness gage graduated to 0.001 in. (0.02 mm). The gageshall be equipped with a flat presser foot 0.250 6 0.
、01 in. (6.356 0.5 mm) in diameter. The foot shall exert a force of 1 6 0.1ozf (0.28 6 0.03 N) maximum.3.1.1 The contact surfaces of the anvil and thickness gagepresser foot shall be parallel within 0.0001 in. (0.003 mm).4. Test Specimen4.1 The specimen shall be approximately 2 by 4 in. (50 by100 mm)
、.5. Calibration5.1 Calibrate the gage by means of gage blocks or shimstock of known thickness appropriate to the thickness of thematerial being measured.6. Conditioning6.1 Condition the specimens at least 24 h at 73 6 3F (23 62C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity and test in the sameenvironment.7. Proc

(19mm) from any edge of th

、a reading from thegage to the nearest 0.001 in. (0.02 mm). Take all measurementsat least 0.75 in. (19 mm) from any edge of the specimen.7.8 Take five measurements per specimen distributed evenlyacross the length of the specimen unless otherwise specified.8. Calculation8.1 Calculate the average thick

(0.02 mm).9.2 Report the minimum and maximum thickness, or both ifrequired by specification.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F06 on ResilientFloor Coverings and is th
