5、icability of regulatorylimitations prior to use.2. Significance and Use2.1The overall thickness or caliper of resilient flooring is a basic physical property. However, conventional means of measuringthe thickness, such as a hand micrometer or regular dial micrometer, are not applicable for foam-laye

6、r products due to the errorfrom compressing the foam. This test method minimizes this type of measuring error and still retains the convenience and speedof measurement.2.2Measurement of the product thickness may be required for quality control purposes or to ensure compliance with applicablespecific

(19 mm) fromany edge of the specimen.7.5Raise the presser foot and insert the test specimen with the wearing surface down.7.6Lower the foot slowly to rest on the specimen without impacting it.7.6.1Hold the specimen flat taking precautions not to compress it in the vicinity o

21、f the foot.7.7Upon contact with the surface, take a reading from the gage to the nearest 0.001 in. (0.02 mm). Take all measurements atleast 0.75 in. (19 mm) from any edge of the specimen.7.8Take five measurements per specimen distributed evenly across the length of the specimen unless otherwise spec

Precision and Bias11.1 The precision of this test method is based on an inter-laboratory study of ASTM F387 - 02(2008) Standard Test Methodfor Measuring Thickness of Resili

28、ent Floor Covering with Foam Layer, conducted in 2009/2010. Each of five laboratories testedF387 112seven different flooring materials. Every “test result” represents the average of five individual determinations, and all participantsreported triplicate test results. Except for the limited number of

29、 laboratories participating, and materials tested, Practice E691 wasfollowed for the design and analysis of the data; the details are given in an ASTM Research Report.311.1.1 Repeatability Limit (r)Two test results obtained within one laboratory shall be judged not equivalent if they differ bymore t

30、han the “r” value for that material; “r” is the interval representing the critical difference between two test results for the samematerial, obtained by the same operator using the same equipment on the same day in the same laboratory.11.1.1.1 Repeatability limits are listed in Table 1.11.1.2 Reprod

31、ucibility Limit (R)Two test results shall be judged not equivalent if they differ by more than the “R” value forthat material; “R” is the interval representing the critical difference between two test results for the same material, obtained bydifferent operators using different equipment in differen

32、t laboratories.11.1.2.1 Reproducibility limits are listed in Table 1.11.1.3 The above terms (repeatability limit and reproducibility limit) are used as specified in Practice E177.11.1.4 Any judgment in accordance with 11.1.1 and 11.1.2 would normally have an approximate 95 % probability of beingcorr

33、ect, however the precision statistics obtained in this ILS must not be treated as exact mathematical quantities which areapplicable to all circumstances and uses. The limited number of materials tested and laboratories reporting results guarantees thatthere will be times when differences greater tha

34、n predicted by the ILS results will arise, sometimes with considerably greater orsmaller frequency than the 95 % probability limit would imply. Consider the repeatability limit and the reproducibilty limit asgeneral guides, and the associated probability of 95 % as only a rough indicator of what can

35、 be expected.11.2 BiasAt the time of the study, there was no accepted reference material suitable for determining the bias for this testmethod, therefore no statement on bias is being made.11.3 The precision statement was determined through the statistical examination of a total of 105 analytical re
