Scope1.1 This specification covers chlorinated poly(vinyl chlo-ride) (CPVC) pipe made in standard thermoplastic pipe dimen-sion ratios and pressure rated for water (see Appendix).Included are criteria for classifying CPVC plastic pipe mate-rials and CPVC plastic pipe, and requirements and

4、 test meth-ods for materials, workmanship, dimensions, sustained pres-sure, burst pressure, flattening, and extrusion quality. Methodsof marking are also given.NOTE 1The CPVC pipe covered by this specification was coveredpreviously in Specification D 2241.NOTE 2The sustained and burst pressure test

5、requirements and thepressure ratings in theAppendix are calculated from stress values obtainedfrom tests made on pipe 2 in. (50 mm) and smaller. However, tests onlarger pipe have shown these stress values to be valid.1.2 The products covered by this specification are intendedfor use with the distrib

6、ution of pressurized liquids only, whichare chemically compatible with the piping materials. Due toinherent hazards associated with testing components and sys-tems with compressed air or other compressed gases somemanufacturers do not allow pneumatic testing of their products.Consult with specific p

7、roduct/component manufacturers fortheir specific testing procedures prior to pneumatic testing.NOTE 3Pressurized (compressed) air or other compressed gasescontain large amounts of stored energy which present serious safteyhazards should a system fail for any reason.1.3 The text of this specification

This stress is circumferential when internalhydrostatic water pressure is applied.3.2.2 pressure rating (PR)the estimated maximum waterpressure the pipe is capa

For CPVC pipe it iscalculated by dividing the average outside diameter of the pipein millimetres or in in

23、ches by the minimum wall thickness inmillimetres or in inches. If the wall thickness calculated by thisformula is less than 0.060 in. 1.52 mm, it shall be arbitrarilyincreased to 0.060 in. 1.52 mm. The SDR values shall berounded to the nearest 0.5.3.2.5 standard thermoplastic pipe materials designat

24、ioncodethe pipe materials designation code shall consist of theabbreviation CPVC for the type of plastic, followed by theASTM type and grade inArabic numerals and the design stressin units of 100 psi 690 kPa with any decimal figures dropped.When the design stress code contains less than two figures,

25、 acipher shall be used before the number. Thus a completematerial code shall consist of four letters and four figures forCPVC plastic pipe materials (see Section 5 and X1.2.1).4. Classification4.1 GeneralThis specification covers CPVC pipe madefrom one CPVC plastic pipe material in five standard dim

26、en-sion ratios and water pressure ratings for nonthreaded pipe.4.2 Standard Thermoplastic Pipe Dimension Ratios(SDR)This specification covers CPVC pipe in five standarddimension ratios, namely, 13.5, 17, 21, 26, and 32.5, which areuniform for all nominal pipe sizes for each material andpressure rati

27、ng. These are referred to as SDR13.5, SDR21,SDR17, SDR26, and SDR32.5, respectively. The pressurerating is uniform for all nominal pipe sizes for a given CPVCpipe material and SDR (see Table X1.1).4.3 Hydrostatic Design StressesThis specification coversCPVC pipe made from CPVC plastic as defined by

28、hydrostaticdesign stresses developed on the basis of long-term tests (seeAppendix).5. Materials5.1 GeneralChlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) plastics usedto make pipe meeting the requirements of this specification arecategorized by means of two criteria, namely, (1) short-termstrength tests, and (2) l

29、ong-term hydrostatic strength tests atboth 73 and 180 F 23 and 82 C.5.2 Basic MaterialsThis specification covers CPVC pipemade from compounds meeting the requirements of Class23447 as defined in Specification D 1784. The materials shallhave an established HDS (Hydrostatic Design Stress) equal toor g

30、reater than 2000 psi 13.80 MPa at 73 F 23 C and 500psi 3.45 MPa) at 180 F 82 C when evaluated in accordancewith Test Method D 2837.5.3 Rework MaterialThe manufacturers shall use onlytheir own clean rework pipe material and the pipe producedshall meet all the requirements of this specification.6. Req

31、uirements Requirements6.1 Dimension and Tolerances:6.1.1 Outside DiametersThe outside diameters and toler-ances shall be as shown in Table 1 when measured inaccordance with Test Method D 2122. The tolerances onout-of-roundness shall apply only to pipe prior to shipment.6.1.2 Wall ThicknessThe wall t

32、hicknesses and tolerancesshall be as shown in Table 2 when measured in accordancewith Test Method D 2122.6.1.3 Wall Thickness RangeThe wall thickness range shallbe within 12 % when measured in accordance with TestMethod D 2122.6.2 Sustained PressureThe pipe shall not fail, balloon,burst, or weep as

33、defined in Test Method D 1598 at the testpressures given in Table 3 when tested in accordance with 8.4.6.2.1 Accelerated Regression TestAt the option of themanufacturer, the accelerated regression test may be used as asubstitute for both pressure testssustained and burst. The testshall be conducted

34、in accordance with 8.4.1. The pipe shalldemonstrate a hydrostatic design basis projection at the100 000-h intercept that meets the hydrostatic design basiscategory requirement (see Table 1, Test Method D 2837) forthe CPVC material used in its manufacture. 37、termined in accordance with 8.5.6.4 FlatteningThere shall be no evidence of splitting,cracking, or breaking when the pipe is tested in accordancewith 8.6.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The pipe shall be homogeneous throughout and freefrom visible cracks, holes, foreign inclusions, or othe

38、r defects.The pipe shall be as uniform as commercially practicable incolor, opacity, density, and other physical properties.NOTE 4Color and transparency or opacity should be specified in thecontract or purchase order.8. Test Methods8.1 ConditioningCondition the test specimens at 73.4 63.6F 23 6 2C a

39、nd 50 6 5 % relative humidity for not lessthan 40 h prior to test in accordance with Procedure A ofPractice D 618 for those tests where conditioning is required.8.2 Test ConditionsConduct the tests in the standardlaboratory atmosphere of 73 6 3.6F 23 6 2C and 50 6 5%relative humidity, unless otherwi

40、se specified in the test meth-ods or in this specification.8.3 SamplingThe selection of the sample or samples ofpipe shall be as agreed upon by the purchaser and the seller. Incase of no prior agreement, any sample selected by the testinglaboratory shall be deemed adequate.8.3.1 Test SpecimensNot le

41、ss than 50 % of the test speci-mens required for any pressure test shall have at least a part ofthe marking in their central sections. The central section is thatportion of pipe which is at least one pipe diameter away froman end closure.8.4 Sustained Pressure TestSelect the test specimens atrandom.

42、 Test individually with water at the internal pressuresgiven in Table 3, six specimens of pipe, each specimen at leastten times the nominal diameter in length, but not less than 10in. 250 mm or more than 3 ft 1000 mm between endclosures and bearing the permanent marking on the pipe.Maintain the spec

43、imens at the pressure indicated for a period of1000 h. Hold the pressure as closely as possible, but within610 psi 670 kPa. Condition the specimens at the testtemperature of 736 3.6F 23 6 2C. Maintain the testtemperature at 73 6 3.6F 23 6 2C. Test in accordance withTest Method D 1598, except maintai

44、n the pressure at the valuesgiven in Table 3 for 1000 h. Failure of two of the six specimenstested shall constitute failure in the test. Failure of one of thesix specimens tested is cause for retest of six additionalspecimens. Failure of one of the six specimens tested in retestshall constitute fail

45、ure in the test. Evidence of failure of thepipe shall be as defined in Test Method D 1598.8.4.1 Accelerated Regression TestTest in accordancewith procedures in Test Method D 1598, using either free endor restrained end fittings. A minimum of six specimens shall betested. Test three specimens at a si

46、ngle pressure that will resultin failures at or below 0.10 h. Test an additional threespecimens at a single pressure that will result in failures atabout 200 h. Additional data points may be generated ifnecessary to improve the LTHS or LCL, or both. No pointsshall be excluded unless an obvious defec

47、t is detected in thefailure area of the test sample, or there was an obviousmalfunction of the test equipment.
