Scope*1.1 This specification covers water well casing pipe andcouplings made from thermoplastic materials in standarddimension ratios (SDR), SCH 40 and SCH 80.1.2 Specifications are provided for the application of thesematerials to water well and ground water monitoring applica-

4、tions. Flush threaded joint systems are included for screen andcasing used primarily in the construction of ground watermonitoring wells (see Practice D5092).1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI uni

5、ts that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard. (See IEEE/ASTM SI 10.)NOTE 1Certain field conditions may require alternative materials toensure safe long-term use. The user should consult federal, state, and localcodes governing the use of thermoplastic materials for well c

Classification4.1 Well casing is produced in either plain end, belled end,or threaded, and i

22、s used for water wells, ground watermonitoring, leak detection, recovery systems, dewateringsystems, and waste disposal.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 SpecificationThe material described shall meet orexceed the requirements of (1) Specification D3965 for ABSwith a cell classification of 44322 or 33

23、333, (2) SpecificationD1784 for PVC with a cell classification of 12454 or 14333, or(3) Specification D1892 for SR with a cell classification of4434A.The material so described shall be approved for potablewater.NOTE 3Caution should be exercised to control heat of hydrationduring grouting as thermopl

24、astic materials are heat sensitive.Acceleratorstend to increase the heat of hydration and are not recommended.5.2 Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) well casing pipeand couplings plastic shall be virgin plastic produced by theoriginal compounder (see Specification D1527). The minimumbutadiene con

25、tent is 6 %; the minimum acrylonitrile content is15 %; the minimum styrene or substituted styrene content, orboth, is 15 %; and the maximum content of other monomers is5 % and lubricants, stabilizers, and colorants.5.3 Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) well casing pipe and cou-plings plastic shall be made

26、of virgin plastic produced by theoriginal compounder. It shall contain poly(vinyl chloride)homopolymer, and such additivesstabilizers, lubricants, pro-cessing aids, impact improvers, and colorantsas needed toprovide the required processing and toughness characteristics(see Test Method D638).5.4 The

27、SR plastics compound shall contain at least 50 %styrene plastics, combined with rubbers to a minimum rubbercontent of 5 %, and compounding materials such as antioxi-dants and lubricants, and may contain up to 15 % acrylonitrilecombined in the styrene plastics or rubbers, or both. Therubbers shall be

28、 of the poly-butadiene or butadiene-styrenetype, or both, with a maximum styrene content of 25 % ornitrile type, or both. The combined styrene plastics and rubbercontent shall be not less than 90 %.5.5 Rework MaterialClean rework material generatedfrom the manufacturers own well casing pipe and coup

29、lingsproduction may be used by the same manufacturer, providedthe well casing pipe and couplings produced meet all therequirements of this specification.5.6 Solvent Cement:5.6.1 SpecificationThe solvent cement shall meet therequirements of Specification D2235 for ABS, SpecificationD2564 for PVC, or

30、Specification D3122 for SR (see Supple-mentary Requirements S3).6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe shall be homogeneousthroughout and essentially uniform in color, opacity, density,and other properties. The inside and outside surfaces shall besemi-matte or glossy in appearance (depending on the

31、type ofplastic) and free of chalking, sticky, or tacky material. Thesurfaces shall be free of excessive bloom, that is, slight bloomis acceptable. The pipe walls shall be free of cracks, holes,blisters, voids, foreign inclusion, or other defects that arevisible to the naked eye and that may affect t

32、he wall integrity.Machined slots or holes deliberately placed in pipe are accept-able. Bloom or chalking may develop in pipe exposed to directrays of the sun (ultraviolet radiant energy) for extendedperiods, and consequently these requirements do not apply topipe after extended exposure to direct ra

35、ally free of oils, grease, dust, and marksimparted as a result of the manufacturing process.6.2 Well Casing Pipe:6.2.1 DimensionsThe outside diameter and wall thicknessof the well casing pipe shall meet the requirements given inTable 1 or Table 2 when measured in accordance with TestMethod D2122. (S

36、ee Specification D2282.)6.2.2 Wall Thickness EccentricityThe wall thickness ec-centricity of the pipe shall be within 12 %.6.2.3 LengthThe well casing pipe shall be in either 10- or20-ft (3.05- or 6.10-m) lengths, unless otherwise specified. Theallowable tolerance on length shall be +12, 0 in. (+13,

37、 0 mm)when measured in accordance with Test Method D2122.6.2.4 Flush Joint Threaded LengthIf specified by themanufacturer or purchaser, the assembled length of flushthreaded casing or screen shall be a nominal length such as 5,10, or 20 ft. Any given laying length the purchaser specifieswill constit

38、ute an assembled length. The allowable toleranceshall be +12,18 in. (+13, 3 mm) on the components of theassembled laying length. The overall length of all flushthreaded screen and casing shall be the nominal or specifiedlaying length plus the length of the exposed male thread (pin).NOTE 4The purchas

39、er should specify whether the length is to be thelaying length or the overall length. The term “laying length” refers to theoverall length less the length required to complete the assembly.6.3 Well Casing Pipe Couplings:6.3.1 Socket DimensionsThe socket dimensions of cou-plings shall conform to the

40、requirements given in Table 3 andTable 4 when measured in accordance with Test MethodD2122.6.3.2 Bell Socket DimensionsThe socket dimensions ofwell casing pipe bell couplings shall be as shown in Table 5when measured in accordance with Test Method D2122.6.3.3 Bell Socket Wall ThicknessThe wall thick

41、ness of anintegral bell shall be considered satisfactory if formed frompipe that meets the requirements of this specification.6.3.4 Laying Length DimensionsThe laying length dimen-sions of well casing pipe couplings shall conform to therequirements given in Table 3, Table 4, and Table 5 whenmeasured

42、 in accordance with Test Method D2122.6.3.5 Socket Concentricity or AlignmentThe maximummisalignment of axis of couplings with the pipe measured inthe plane of the coupling face shall not exceed34 in./20 ft (3mm/1 m) of projected axis when measured in accordance with7.4.6.4 Pipe Stiffness and Flatte

43、ning:6.4.1 Well Casing PipeThe well casing pipe shall have apipe stiffness at 5 % deflection equal to that shown in Table 6and Table 7 and shall deflect 60 % of the original diameter(flattening) without cracking, rupture, or other visible evidenceof failure when tested in accordance with Test Method

44、 D2412.Three specimens shall be tested and all shall pass.NOTE 5This test is intended for use as a quality control test, not as asimulated service test.6.4.2 Couplings and Bells shall meet all the designateddimensional requirements of Table 3, Table 4,orTable 5.Molded couplings shall have a pipe sti

45、ffness at 5 % deflectionequal to that shown in Table 6 and Table 7 and shall deflect15 % without cracking, rupture, or other visible evidence offailure when tested in accordance with Test Method D2412.Three specimens shall be tested and all shall pass.6.5 Impact Resistance ClassificationThe impact r

46、esis-tance classification (IC) value for well casing pipe shall beselected from Table 8 by the manufacturer based on themeasured average impact values determined in accordancewith 7.5.6.6 Tup Puncture ResistanceThe well casing pipe andwell casing couplings shall deflect 30 % (puncture resistance)wit

47、hout cracking, rupture, or other visible evidence of failurewhen tested in accordance with 7.6 (Note 7). Three specimensshall be tested and all shall pass.6.7 ThreadsWell casing, screens, and couplings havingthreads shall have either American Standard ACME 2G screwthreads, American Standard Stub ACM

48、E 2G screw threads, orButtress screw threads, Class 2, or square form flush jointthreads, in accordance with ANSI B1.5 for ACME 2G screwthreads, ANSI B1.8 for Stub ACME 2G screw threads, andANSI B1.9 for Buttress screw threads. 49、ring wellconstruction are included in the annex.6.7.1 All ACME, Stub ACME, and Buttress screw threadsshall be gaged in accordance with 7.7.6.7.2 Machining flush joint square threads directly into thewall of the pipe may cause difficulty in measuring the threaddimensions when the pipe is removed from the threadingdevice. The inherent out-of-round condition of the pipe willcause the thread dimensions to conform to the irregularities ofthe pipe. Measurements must be taken at many points andaveraged. Alternatively gages of metal or other rigid mater
