Scope1.1 This test method covers the determinati

6、n-Glass Thermometers3. Significance and Use3.1 Many aircraft maintenance chemicals are used on com-ponents and structures which would be adversely affected byexcessive dimensional change. This test method screens thesechemicals to ensure compliance with specified weight changecriteria.4. Apparatus4.

7、1 Wide-Mouth Sealable Glass Jar or Stoppered Flask ofSuitable SizeThe glass jar or flask should be so chosen sothat the specimens will remain fully immersed in a verticalposition during testing and the ratio of area of immersed metalto volume of solution will be in accordance with 8.1.4.1.1 WarningS

8、ome aircraft maintenance chemicalswhen heated have high vapor pressures or may produce gasesduring testing. Suitable precautions should be taken to preventthe containing vessel from exploding or the vessel should be sochosen as to withstand the resulting pressure.4.2 Specimen-Supporting DeviceA glas

9、s or fluorocarbonplastic supporting system designed to keep the specimen fullyimmersed while ensuring free contact with the solution, anddesigned to isolate the specimens from each other physically.4.3 For materials containing low boiling point solvents, ameans of preventing evaporation losses shall

10、 be used.4.4 Constant-Temperature DeviceAny suitable regulatedheating device (mantle, hot plate, or bath) may be used tomaintain the solution at the required temperature.4.5 Thermometer, having a range from 18 to 150C (0 to302F) and conforming to requirements for Thermometer 1F inaccordance with Spe

11、cification E1.4.6 Oven, low temperature explosion-proof, capable ofmaintaining 38 6 3C (100 6 5F) through 120 6 5C (248 65F).5. Test Specimens6.1 Take test specimens of a given alloy from the same sheetstock, which shall be in new or like-new condition, andmeasure 50.8 by 25.4 by 1.6 mm (2 by 1 by 0.06 in.) with a3.2-mm (0.125-in.) diameter mounting hole suitably located atone end of the specimen. Test three r

13、eplicate specimens in eachconcentration of maintenance chemical solution in accordancewith 8.2.1. Take the total area of the specimen as 28.2 cm2(4.4in.2).6.1.1 Identify each panel with Numbers 1, 2, 3, or 4.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F07 onAerospace and Aircraft a

Precleaning Test Specimens7.1 Immerse the test specimens in a beaker of mineralspirits, Type II, conforming to Specification D 235 at roomtemperature and swab the surface of the individual specimenthoroughly using clean forceps to hold the test specimen andthe cotton swab.7.2 Shake off

17、excess solvent. Transfer and immerse the testspecimens separately several times in a beaker of methyln-propyl ketone.37.3 Shake off excess methyl n-propyl ketone and dry in avacuum desiccator or in a low-temperature oven at 120 6 5C(2486 5F) for 15 min. (If oven dried, remove to dessicatorand cool t

18、o ambient.)8. Conditioning8.1 Ratio of Area of Immersed Metal to Volume ofSolutionThe ratio of area of immersed metal to volume ofsolution shall be 8 mL per cm2. Use fresh solution for each setof replicates.8.2 Solution Concentration:8.2.1 Unless otherwise specified, test the specimens insolutions o

19、f the maintenance chemical in the concentratedas-received condition and at the recommended use dilutionusing water that conforms to Specification D 1193, Type IV. Incase the maintenance chemical is not soluble to the extentnoted, record this fact and continue with the test.8.2.2 If water is not used

20、 as the diluent, record the type andspecification of diluent used in the test.8.3 TemperatureUnless otherwise specified, the test tem-perature shall be 38 6 3C (100 6 5F).9. Procedure9.1 Weigh three of four specimens of the same alloy to thenearest 0.1 mg.9.2 Immerse three weighed specimens of each

21、alloy in thetest solution at the prescribed temperature. Place only speci-mens of the same alloy in the containing vessel. Maintain at therequired temperature for the prescribed exposure period. Re-tain the fourth specimen of each alloy for comparison pur-poses.9.3 At the end of 24 h, remove the tes

22、t specimens andproceed as follows:9.3.1 Rinse thoroughly under hot tap water, 49 to 60C (120to 140F) . Follow with a rinse in water conforming toSpecification D 1193, Type IV at room temperature.9.3.2 Rinse with a stream of acetone, conforming to Speci-fication D 329, from a wash bottle and oven dry

23、 at 120C(250F), dessicate until cooled to ambient, weigh and record.9.3.3 Then examine for and record on a form as illustratedin Appendix X1 in the 24-h column the following visiblechanges in comparison with the fourth virgin specimen of eachalloy.9.3.3.1 Discoloration and dulling,9.3.3.2 Etching,9.

24、3.3.3 Presence of accretions and relative amounts,9.3.3.4 Pitting, and9.3.3.5 Presence of selective or localized attack.9.4 Immerse the panels in the same test solution for a further144 h, then repeat 9.3.1-9.3.3.5.9.5 Reweigh specimens to nearest 0.1 mg, calculate weightloss or gain, and record in

25、168-h column.10. Report10.1 Report the data for each test performed on a form asillustrated in Appendix X1.11. Precision and Bias11.1 No statement is made about either precision or bias ofthis test method for measuring the immersion corrosion behav-ior of maintenance chemicals.Aerospace industry and
