Basis of Selection3.1 These standard carpets and pads are intended to providea database and shall meet the following requirements:3.1.1 Representative of carpets currently in popular use inthe United States.3.1.2
8、Reasonable anticipation of continued availability.3.1.3 Compatible with other ASTM Committee F11 meth-ods.3.1.4 Provide a separation of cleaning effectiveness ratingsbetween products with good reliability and repeatability.4. Classification4.1 The carpet types shall be classified according to ac-cep
9、ted carpet industry practice, such as shag, multilevel, plush,etc.5. Physical Requirements5.1 Carpets3The following carpet types and constructionhave been found acceptable for use in vacuum cleaner testing.They shall be made in accordance with the physical require-ments given in Table 1, Table 2 and
10、 Table 3.NOTE 1A variance of 67 % in face weight is allowable per HUDguidelines. When a new construction is needed, the proposed customtufted test carpets should be subjected to construction verification as wellas cleanability testing prior to acceptance for use.5.2 Padding4Sponge rubber type of waf

16、.1 A test carpet or pad specified in this specification thatdoes not satisfy the requirements of Section 3 shall be replaced.When the task group has tentatively agreed on a replacementcarpet, the proposed carpet shall be evaluated using one of theprocedures described in 6.2 or 6.3.6.2 Option 1:6.2.1
17、 A three-member task group shall be assigned fromSubcommittee F11.21.6.2.2 The laboratories of the three task group members shallgather test data. Testing shall be conducted in accordance withTest Method F608.6.2.2.1 Testing must be done with at least one agitator-typeupright vacuum cleaner, one com
18、bination cleaner, and onestraight air canister cleaner. The test cleaners selected shall beused for testing in all three task group member laboratories.Additional cleaners may be used at the discretion of the taskgroup members.6.2.2.2 The proposed replacement test carpet shall be sup-plied to each o
19、f the participating laboratories.6.2.2.3 Each test laboratory shall make certain that the sameintralaboratory technician (or technicians, if more than one isrequired) conducts the required series of runs to establish thetest score for a cleaner type. The runs required for a test scorefor a cleaner t
20、ype shall be a continuous series of runs within asingle working day.6.2.3 The carpet being selected shall have a constructionsimilar to that specified in Section 5. The proposed test carpetshall be judged equivalent if the average test score of theparticipating laboratories for each of the cleaner t

Every effort shall be made to selecta carpet that provides pickup performance, cleaner ranking,and ratio of performance between agitator and straight air typevacuum cleaners within 10 % of that measured on the currentlyspecified carpet to be replaced.6.
30、3 Option 2:6.3.1 When the task group has tentatively agreed on areplacement carpet, the proposed carpet shall be evaluated.6.3.2 An independent laboratory shall be selected by thecustom carpet supplier to evaluate the sample construction.6.3.3 This laboratory shall be approved by a majority of theF1
31、1.21 Cleaning Ability Subcommittee voting members.6.3.4 When a new, custom tufted carpet is submitted to theapproved, independent laboratory for testing, it shall be evalu-ated in accordance with Test Method F608. Three panels of theexisting inventory shall be compared with three panels of thenew te
32、st panels.6.3.5 Testing must be done with at least one agitator-typeupright vacuum cleaner, one combination cleaner, and onestraight air canister cleaner.6.3.6 The results of the testing must meet the repeatabilityprovisions within Test Method F608 for each vacuum cleanertype tested.6.3.7 The indepe
33、ndent laboratory test report shall includefor each panel:6.3.7.1 The cleaning values for each of the first ten (10)preconditioning test runs,6.3.7.2 Cleaning efficacy values for each vacuum cleaner oneach panel when tested per subsection 9.4 of Test MethodF608,6.3.7.3 A chart comparing the average c
34、leaning efficacyvalues for each vacuum cleaner across the existing three panelstested to the three proposed test panels.6.4 When the task group reaches agreement on the proposedcarpet, it will submit its recommendation and test data toSubcommittee F11.21 for approval and subsequent ASTMballoting, in
35、cluding amendments to the necessary tables inSection 5. The evaluation carpet panels shall be returned to thecarpet supplier for storage in case future retesting is needed.6.5 If the specified carpet padding becomes obsolete, theprocedure specified in Section 6 shall be used to determine anequivalen
36、t replacement using all of the standard test carpetslisted in Table 1.7. Carpet Inventory7.1 To control the variability of the carpeting used withinthe ASTM test methods, a central source3for carpeting hasbeen established by ASTM Committee F11 on Vacuum Clean-ers. It is the responsibility of the cen
37、tral source for carpeting tomaintain an adequate supply for each carpet type for testing.7.2 In order to maintain an adequate supply of carpet types,the central source for carpeting is to notify the F11.21.01 carpetstandardization task group chairman when the central source3supply is reduced to fift
38、y (50) panels of a given carpet type.The F11.21.01 task group chairman will then contact the F11membership to determine the overall inventory outside thecentral source and instruct the central source to re-order thecarpeting, if necessary. This reorder is subject to task group,subcommittee, and main
39、 committee approval.8.
