3、imensions, workmanship, flattening resistance,impact resistance, pipe stiffness, extrusion quality, joiningsystem, and a form of marking for large diameters, 18 to 48 in.poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) sewer pipe and fittings with inte-gral bell elastomeric seal joints and smooth inner walls.1.2 The requ

4、irements of this specification are intended toprovide pipe and fittings suitable for nonpressure drainage ofsewage and surface water. Pipe and fittings produced to thisspecification should be installed in accordance with PracticeD 2321.NOTE 1Industrial waste disposal lines should be installed only w

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 GeneralDefinitions used in the specification are inaccordance with Terminology F 4

15、12, unless otherwise indi-cated.The abbreviation for poly(vinyl chloride) pipe is PVC, inaccordance with Terminology D 1600.4. Materials4.1 Basic MaterialsThe pipe shall be made of PVCplastic having a minimum cell classification of 12364 or 12454as defined in Specification D 1784. Homopolymer PVC co

16、m-pounds must equal or exceed the requirements of the abovelisted minimum cell classification number.4.2 Rework MaterialClean rework material generatedfrom the manufacturers own pipe or fittings production maybe used by the same manufacturer provided that the reworkmaterial meets the requirements of

17、 4.1 and that the pipe orfittings produced meet all the requirements of this specifica-tion.4.3 GasketsRubber gaskets shall be in compliance withSpecification F 477.4.4 LubricantThe lubricant used for assembly shall haveno detrimental effect on the gasket or pipe.5. Joining System5.1 Integral Bell G

18、asketed JointThe joint shall be de-signed so that when assembled, the gasket inside the bell willbe compressed radially on the pipe spigot to form a water-tightseal.5.2 The joint shall be designed to avoid displacement of thegasket when installed in accordance with the manufacturersrecommendations.5

19、.3 The assembly of joints shall be in accordance with thepipe manufacturers recommendations.6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe and fittings shall be homoge-neous throughout and free from visible cracks, holes, foreigninclusions, or other injurious defects. The pipe shall be asuniform as commerci

20、ally practical in color, opacity, density,and other physical properties.6.2 Pipe Dimensions:6.2.1 Pipe DiameterThe average outside diameter of thepipe shall meet the requirements given in Table 1, whenmeasured in accordance with Test Method D 2122.6.2.2 Wall ThicknessPipe wall thicknesses shall meet

21、 therequirements of Table 1, when measured in accordance withTest Method D 2122. In the case of belled pipe and fittingsfabricated from pipe sections, the thickness of the wall in thebell shall be considered satisfactory if it was formed from pipemeeting the above requirements.6.3 Pipe FlatteningThe

22、re shall be no evidence of split-ting, cracking, or breaking, when pipe is tested in accordancewith 7.4.6.4 Wall Thickness of FittingsThe minimum wall thick-nesses of the fittings shall be the same as the minimum wallthickness of the equivalent size of pipe as specified in Table 1.For reducing fitti

23、ngs or those with smaller inlets, the minimumwall thickness of each inlet shall be no less than the minimumwall thickness for that size pipe. The thickness shall bedetermined in accordance with Test Method D 2122.NOTE 2Owing to the present state of technology in the industry, allfittings are fabrica

24、ted fittings. 29、h 7.5.NOTE 3This requirement is intended only for use as a quality controltest, not as a simulated service test. As aged impact data is developed, theapplicable aged impact values will be included to reflect long-termperformance needs.6.6 Pipe StiffnessPipe stiffness values for the pipe shallcomply

30、with Table 1, when tested in accordance with 7.6.6.6.1 The wall thickness must be increased to meet the pipestiffness requirement PS46 or PS115 listed in Table 1 whenmaterial with modulus lower than 500,000 psi (3447 MPa) isused.6.7 Gaskets:6.7.1 All gaskets shall meet the requirements of Specifica-

31、tion F 477 and be molded into a circular form or extruded tothe proper section and then spliced into circular form. Gasketsshall be made of a properly vulcanized high-grade elastomericcompound.6.7.2 The basic polymer shall be natural rubber, syntheticelastomer, or a blend of both.6.7.3 The gasket sh

32、all be designed with an adequate com-pressive force so as to effect a positive seal under all combi-nations of joint tolerances. The gasket shall be the only elementdepended upon to make the joint flexible and watertight.6.8 Joint TightnessJoints made with pipe and fittings shallshow no sign of leak

33、age, when tested in accordance withSpecification D 3212. All surfaces of the joint upon which thegasket may bear shall be smooth and free of imperfections,ridges, fractures, or cracks that could adversely affect sealabil-ity.6.9 Acetone ImmersionThe pipe shall not show excessiveflaking or disintegra

34、te, when tested in accordance with TestMethod D 2152.NOTE 4This test is intended only for use as a quality control test andnot for use as a simulated service test.7. Test Methods7.1 Conditioning:7.1.1 Referee TestingWhen conditioning is required forreferee tests, condition the specimens in accordanc

35、e withProcedureAof Practice D 618 at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C) and50 6 5 % relative humidity for not less than 40 h prior to test.Conduct tests under the same conditions of temperature andhumidity, unless otherwise specified.7.1.2 Quality Control TestsFor quality control tests, con-dition specimens for

36、a minimum of4hinairor1hinwater at73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C). Test the specimens at 236 2Cwithout regard to relative humidity.7.2 Test ConditionsConduct tests in the Standard Labora-tory Atmosphere of 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C) and 50 6 5%relative humidity, unless otherwise specified in this specifica-tion. In

37、 cases of disagreement, the tolerances shall be 61.8F(61C) and 62 % relative humidity.7.3 SamplingThe selection of the sample or samples ofpipe shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser and seller.In case of no prior agreement, any sample selected by thetesting laboratory shall be deemed adequat

38、e.7.4 FlatteningFlatten three specimens of pipe, each 6 in.(152 mm) in length, between parallel plates in a suitable pressuntil the distance between the plates is 40 % of the outsidediameter of the pipe. The rate of loading shall be uniform andsuch that the compression is completed within 2 to 5 min

Thespecimen shall pass if no splitting, cracking, or breaking isobserved under normal light with the unaided eye.7.5 Impact ResistanceDetermine the impact resistance ofthe pipe in accordance with Test Method D 2444, using a 30-lb(15-kg) or 20-lb (10-kg) Tup B and flat-plate holder B. Tenspecimens

40、shall be tested; nine out of ten passing constitutes anacceptable product.NOTE 5Sections shorter than those specified in Test Method D 2444,but not less than 6 in. (152 mm) in length, may be tested to accommodatethe impact-testing machine since this will be a more severe impact-resistance test.7.6 P

41、ipe StiffnessDetermine the pipe stiffness at 5 %deflection datum in accordance with Test Method D 2412. Testthree specimens, each 6 in. (152 mm) in length, and determinethe average pipe stiffness at 5 % deflection in accordance withTest Method D 2412. The pipe stiffness shall equal or exceedthe mini

42、mum value listed in Table 1.NOTE 6The 5 % deflection criterion, which was arbitrarily selectedfor testing convenience, should not be considered as a limitation withrespect to in-use deflection. The engineer is responsible for establishingthe acceptable deflection limit.7.7 Acetone ImmersionThis test

43、 shall be conducted inaccordance with Test Method D 2152. This procedure is usedfor determining the degree of fusion of extruded PVC plasticpipe as indicated by reaction to immersion in anhydrousacetone. It is applicable only for distinguishing betweenunfused and properly fused PVC.8. Retest and Rej

44、ection8.1 If the results of any test(s) do not meet the requirementsof this specification, the test(s) may be conducted again inaccordance with an agreement between the purchaser and theseller. There shall be no agreement to lower the minimumrequirement of the specification by such means as omitting

45、tests that are a part of the specification, substituting ormodifying a test method, or by changing the specificationlimits. In retesting, the product requirements of this specifica-tion shall be met, and the test methods designated in thespecification shall be followed. If, upon retest, failure occu

46、rs,the quantity of product represented by the test(s) does not meetthe requirements of this specification.9. Inspection9.1 GeneralInspection by the purchaser shall not relievethe manufacturer of the responsibility of furnishing materialmeeting in all respects the requirements of this specification.9

47、.2 NotificationIf inspection is specified by the purchaser,the manufacturer shall notify the purchaser in advance of thedate, time, and place of testing of the pipe in order that thepurchaser may be represented at the test.9.3 AccessThe inspector shall have free access to thoseparts of the manufactu

48、rers plant that are involved in workperformed under this specification. The manufacturer shallF 679 06a3afford the inspector all reasonable facilities for determiningwhether the pipe meets the requirements of this standard.10. Certification10.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, amanu

49、facturers certification shall be furnished to the purchaserthat the material was manufactured, sampled, tested, andinspected in accordance with this specification, and has beenfound to meet the requirements. When specified in the pur-chase order or contract, a report of the test results shall befurnished. Each certification so furnished shall be signed by anauthorized agent of the manufacturer.11.
