Scope*1.1 This specification covers the chemical and mechanic
3、alrequirements for stainless steel metric nuts with nominal threaddiameters M1.6 through M36 and intended for use in engineer-ing applications requiring general corrosion resistance.1.2 Eight groups of stainless steel alloys are covered,including three austenitic (GradesA1,A2, andA4), one ferritic(G
4、rade F1), three martensitic (Grades C1, C3, and C4), and oneprecipitation hardening (Grade P1).1.3 Seventeen property classes are covered, including nineaustenitic, one ferritic, six martensitic, and one precipitationhardening. The property classes with the permissible alloys foreach are listed in T
5、able 1.1.4 This specification is based in concept and content onISO 3506. The chemical and mechanical requirements speci-fied for all property classes, except as given in 1.4.1, areessentially identical with classes of the same designation inISO 3506.1.4.1 This specification includes 13 of the 16 pr
6、opertyclasses covered in ISO 3506. Additionally, it includes propertyclasses A1-70, A270, A470, A180, A280, and A480 forproducts with nominal thread diameters larger than M20; andfour non-ISO property classes, C1-110, C4-110, C3-120, andP1-90.1.5 Supplementary requirements of an optional nature arep
7、rovided, applicable only when agreed upon between themanufacturer and the purchaser at the time of the inquiry andorder.1.6 Suitable bolts, hex cap screws, and studs for use withnuts included in this specification are covered by SpecificationF738M. Classification3.1 The designation of each property class is comprised ofthree parts, a letter followed by a single digit, followed bye
18、ither two or three digits (see Table 1).3.1.1 The letter indicates the general composition type ofstainless steel:3.1.1.1 A for austenitic steels,3.1.1.2 F for ferritic steels,3.1.1.3 C for martensitic steels, and3.1.1.4 P for precipitation-hardening steel.3.1.2 The first digit (1, 2, 3, or 4) indic
19、ates the alloy group.The permissible alloys within each group are given in Table 1.3.1.3 The last two or three digits (50, 70, 110, etc.) indicate10 % of the specified nut proof load stress of the property class.3.1.4 For example, Class A1-50 is an austenitic steel of anyone of six permitted alloys,

24、5.1 FormingUnless otherwise specified, nuts shall becold-formed, hot-formed, or machined, at the option of themanufacturer.5.2 ConditionNuts shall be furnished in the conditionspecified for the property class in Table 2. If other conditionsare required, the condition and resultant mechanical propert
25、iesshall be as agreed upon between the manufacturer and thepurchaser.5.3 Surface FinishUnless otherwise specified, nuts shallbe cleaned and descaled in accordance with Practice A380.6. Heat Treatment6.1 Austenitic Alloys, Grades A1, A2, and A4:6.1.1 When Condition A is specified, the nuts shall bema
26、chined from annealed or solution annealed stock, thusretaining the properties of the original material, or hot formedand solution annealed.6.1.2 When Condition AF is specified, the nuts, followingmanufacture, shall be annealed by heating to 1040 6 30C, atwhich time the chromium carbide will go into
27、solution. Thenuts shall be held for a sufficient time and then cooled at a ratesufficient to prevent precipitation of the carbide and to providethe properties specified in Table 2.6.1.3 When Condition CW is specified, the austenitic alloyshall be annealed as specified in 6.1.1, and then cold-worked

32、1010 6 30C sufficientfor austenitization, holding for at least12 h, rapid air- oroil-quenching, reheating to 275C minimum, and holding for atleast 1 h and then air-cooling to provide the properties specifiedin Table 2.6.4 Precipitation-Hardening Alloy, Grade P1When Con-dition AH is specified, the nu
33、ts shall be solution-annealed andaged by heating to 1040 6 15C, holding for at least12 h, rapidair- or oil-quenching to 27C maximum, reheating to 620 610C minimum, holding for 4 h, and then air-cooling toprovide the properties specified in Table 2.7. Chemical Composition7.1 It is the intent of this
34、specification that nuts shall beordered by property class.7.2 Unless otherwise specified in the inquiry and purchaseorder (see Supplementary Requirement S2), when two or morealloys are permitted for nuts of a specified property class, thechoice of alloy to be used shall be that of the fastenermanufa
35、cturer as determined by his nut fabrication methods andmaterial availability. The specific alloy used by the manufac-turer shall be identified clearly on any certification required inthe purchase order and shall have a chemical compositionconforming to the limits specified in Table 3.7.2.1 When the
36、purchaser specifies that a specific alloy beused, the alloy shall have a chemical composition conformingto the limits specified in Table 3.7.3 Product analysis may be made by the purchaser fromnuts representing each lot. The chemical composition thusdetermined shall conform to the limits specified i

44、echanical Properties9.1 The hardness of nuts of each class shall not exceed themaximum hardness specified for the class in Table 2. This shallbe the only hardness requirement for nuts that are proof loadtested.9.2 Unless proof load testing is specified in the inquiry andpurchase order, nuts of all c
45、lasses in nominal thread diametersM4 and smaller, and nuts of all classes with proof loads greaterthan 530 kN, as specified in Table 4, shall be furnished on thebasis of having a hardness not less than the minimum hardnessspecified in Table 2.9.3 All classes of nuts, except those covered in 9.2 shal
46、lwithstand the proof load as specified in Table 4.10.
