Scope1.1 This guide summarizes the standard test methods avail-able for determining physical and mechanical characteris
3、tics ofinterlayer materials used in multi-ply aerospace transparentenclosures.1.2 Interlayer materials are used to laminate glass-to-glass,glass-to-plastic, and plastic-to-plastic. Interlayer materials arebasically transparent adhesives with high-quality optical prop-erties. They can also serve as a
4、n energy absorbing medium, afail-safe membrane to contain cockpit pressure and to prevententry of impact debris; a strain insulator to accommodatedifferent thermal expansion rates of members being laminatedand as an adherent to prevent spalling of inner surface plymaterial fragments. The relative im
5、portance of an interlayercharacteristic will be a function of the prime use it serves in itsparticular application.1.3 This guide, as a summary of various methods in Section2, is intended to facilitate the selection of tests that can beapplied to interlayer materials.1.4 The test methods listed are

Significance and Use3.1 This guide is intended for use by material suppliers,aircraft transparent enclosure
21、 fabricators, airframemanufacturers, government agencies, and others that maybecome involved in the testing of transparent interlayer mate-rials. These test methods provide data on both individualinterlayer materials and material combinations commonly usedin the fabrication of aerospace transparent
22、enclosures andprovide a means of evaluating the performance of one inter-layer material against another.3.2 Primary characteristics and their long-term stability arecritical to the performance of an interlayer material. Basic testsdefine the as-manufactured material characteristics of theinterlayer
23、material. Ageing procedures provide for representa-tive exposure to environments that induce changes in materialcharacteristics. Tests performed before and after ageing expo-sure provide a means of estimating the potential useablelife-span of an interlayer material or to compare the durabilityof one
24、 interlayer material with another.3.3 When employing these test methods for the comparisonof interlayer materials after exposure to selected environmentalconditions, the user shall be aware that many factors influenc-ing degradation due to weathering vary from one location andexposure period to anot
25、her location and exposure period. Fordirect weathering comparisons, the interlayer materials to becompared shall be subjected to the exposure and have the testsperformed at the same time. It is emphasized that the testvalues obtained under these simultaneously applied conditionsare for comparative u
26、se and their use as design characteristicsshall be made with caution.3.4 The test methods listed include those considered criticalto the performance of aircraft transparent enclosures.
