Ordering Information5.1 Purchasers shall state whether this specification is to beused, select the preferred options permitted herein, and includethe following information in the invitation to bid or purchaseorder:5.1.1 Title, number, and date of this specification.5.1.2 Type, class, nosin

15、ndard Commercial ProductA tread of the sameclassification shall, as a minimum, be in accordance with therequirements of this specification and shall be the manufactur-ers standard commercial product. A standard commercialproduct is a product that has been sold or is currently beingoffered for sale o

16、n the commercial market through advertise-ments, manufacturers catalogs, or brochures and representsthe latest production model.6.2 Tread DesignThe upper surface of tread shall haveone or a combination of the following:Class 1 Smooth (Flat)Class 2 Pattern: Embossed, Grooved, or RibbedGroup 1 Abrasiv

17、e Strips: EmbeddedGroup 2 Contrasting Color for Visually Impaired6.2.1 Class 1, Smooth (Flat)The tread surface shall besmooth and flat.6.2.2 Class 2, Pattern: Embossed, Grooved, or RibbedWhen the surface is embossed, grooved or ribbed, the depth ofthe design shall not be greater than 50 % of the ove

18、rallthickness of the tread.6.2.3 Group 1, Abrasive Strips (Embedded)When speci-fied, one or more mineral-coated abrasive grit strips, each stripnot less than 0.030-in. (0.76 mm) thick, shall be recessed intoand adhered to the top surface of a smooth surface tread portionto form a continuous flat sur

19、face overall. Each strip shall runthe full length of the treads and shall be parallel to the nose ofthe tread. The front edge of the first strip shall be not more than1 in. (25.4 mm) from the nose of the step or landing. If asecond strip is used, it shall be34 (19 mm) to 112 in. (38 mm)from the firs

20、t strip.6.2.4 Group 2, Contrasting Color for Visually ImpairedThe tread shall contain a strip of contrasting color of either thesame material or an abrasive material.6.3 Nosing StyleNosing style shall be as specified (seeFigs. 1-3 for some typical styles).6.4 ColorAccording to manufacturers latest c

21、atalogs,and actual samples. Sample color may vary with age andstorage conditions.7. Performance Requirements7.1 HardnessTreads shall meet a Shore A Durometerreading of not less than 85 when tested according to TestMethod D 2240.7.2 Molded Stair TreadsThe bonding surface of the treadshall be sanded,

22、roughened, or otherwise modified by themanufacturer to remove substances that may interfere withproper adhesion.7.3 Tread BacksUnless otherwise specified in the contractor order, the back or bonding surface of the rubber tread shallbe sanded, buffed, roughened, ribbed/grooved, or otherwisemodified t

23、o ensure proper adhesion.7.4 Resistance to Chemicals, Short-Term ExposureWhentested in accordance with Test Method F 925, the vinyl andrubber treads shall have no more than a slight change in surfacedulling, surface attack, or staining when exposed to thefollowing chemicals:White Vinegar (5 % Acetic

24、 Acid)Rubbing Alcohol (70 % Isopropyl Alcohol)White Mineral Oil (Medicinal Grade)Sodium Hydroxide Solution (5 % NaOH)Hydrochloric Acid Solution (5 % HCl)Sulfuric Acid Solution (5 % H2SO4)Household Ammonia Solution (5 % NH4OH)Household Bleach Solution (5.25 % NaOCl)Olive Oil (light)Unleaded Gasoline

25、(regular grade)Disinfectant Cleaner (5 % Phenol)Kerosene (K1)NOTE 1These basic chemicals are representative of those likely to befound in domestic, commercial, and institutional use. Many proprietarycompounds contain one or more of these basic chemicals. Should therubber or vinyl tread for an unusua

26、l application need to be resistant to aspecific chemical, this additional requirement should become part of theprocurement document.7.5 Resistance to HeatWhen tested in accordance to TestMethod F 1514, the color change of the resilient stair treadsshall have an average DE not greater than 8.0 after

27、7 daysexposure to 158F (70C).7.6 Resistance to LightTask Group F06.80.13 will con-tinue to search for a test method or develop a test method toaddress this requirement. Existing Q-UV and Xenon-Arc testmethods used to test rubber floor tiles resulted in extremelyhigh failure rates, which is not typic

28、al in everyday use of theseproducts.8. Dimensions and Permissible Variations8.1 Dimensions of Rubber and Vinyl TreadsRubber andvinyl tread dimensions shall be as specified. The nominal sizeshall be the actual length and depth of the tread portion (seeFigs. 1-3).8.2 ThicknessThe thickness of resilien

(0.8 mm) when tested in accor-dance with Test Method F 386.NOTE 2When butting stair treads together on one stair, there shouldbe no more

(1.6 mm) thickness difference between the twoadjoining treads.8.3 LengthThe length of resilient stair treads shall be themanufacturers standard, or as specified, and can be longer tobe trimmed to fit. Length shall be measured in accordance with8.5.8.4 DepthThe depth of resilient stair t

31、reads shall be themanufacturers standard or as specified. Depth tolerances shallbe 618 in. (3.2 mm) when measured in accordance with 8.5.8.5 Length and Depth MeasurementsMeasurements shallbe made with a calibrated 100 ft (30 m) steel tape graduated atintervals of116 in. or 1 mm. The tread shall be e

32、xtended to itsfull length on a flat surface and all creases and bucklesremoved, without applying stresses that cause any significantstretching. Measurements of length shall be rounded to thenearest inch (10 mm). Net depth shall be measured to thenearest116 in. (1 mm) at not less than two locations u

33、niformlydistributed along the length of each tread and the resultsaveraged.9. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 The tread base furnished in accordance with this speci-fication shall be free of defects, which adversely affect perfor-mance or appearance. Such defects include blemishes, spots,lines

34、, indentations, blisters, and delamination.10. Sampling for Test10.1 Sampling for testing physical characteristics listed inTable 1 shall be done in accordance with the provisions setforth in ANSI/ASQC Z1.4-1993. The inspection level shall bespecial inspection level S-I, as noted in Table I of ANSI/

35、ASQCZ1.4-1993, and acceptable quality level (AQL) shall be 6.5defects per hundred units as noted in Table II-A of ANSI/ASQC Z1.4-1993 or as otherwise specified in 10.2. The lotshall be expressed in units. A unit represents a single, manu-factured, inventoried, finished carton or piece.10.2 Sampling

36、for testing physical characteristics listed inTable I of ANSI/ASQC Z1.4-1993 shall be agreed upon by thepurchaser and manufacturer as part of the procurement docu-ment.11. Inspection11.1 Sampling for inspection of the tread for defects thatwould adversely affect performance (see 9.1) shall be done i

37、naccordance with the provisions set forth in ANSI/ASQCZ1.4-1993. The inspection level shall be Level I as noted inTable I of ANSI/ASQC Z1.4-1993 with an acceptable qualitylevel (AQL) of 6.5 defects per hundred as noted in Table II-Aof ANSI/ASQC Z1.4-1993 or as otherwise specified in 11.2.The lot siz

38、e shall be expressed in units. A unit represents asingle, manufactured, inventoried carton or piece.11.2 Inspection of the tread for defects that would adverselyaffect performance (see 9.1) shall be agreed upon by thepurchaser and the manufacturer as part of the procurementdocument.12. Certification

39、12.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, amanufacturers certification and any other documents requiredto substantiate certification shall be furnished to the purchaserthat the product was manufactured to meet this specification.13. Product Marking13.1 Unless otherwise specified, the ca

40、rton of stairtreadshall be marked with the name of the material as defined by thecontract or purchase order under which the shipment is made,the length, thickness, composition, type, color, the quantitycontained therein, and the name of the manufacturer.13.2 When product sample sets, sample set cove

41、r cards, andmarketing and technical literature reference this specification,the complete product classification information relative to thisspecification shall be included.14. Packaging and Packing14.1 Unless otherwise specified, the stairtread shall bepackaged in accordance with normal commercial p

42、ractice andpacked to ensure acceptance by the common carder and toprovide protection against damage during normal shipping,handling, and storage.
