Terminology3.1 The terminology and definitions in the referenced do

6、cu-ments are applicable to this practice.3.2 Definitions:3.2.1 anchorage, na component/structure to which a FBHis attached to the tree trunk.3.2.2 climbing belt, na strap/belt (or system of straps)which is fastened about the person in a manner so as to containthe torso and stabilize the users horizo

7、ntal load while eitherworking from a vertical position to attach treestands, climbingdevices, and so forth, or during ascent/descent of tree or ladder.A FBH may be constructed to additionally serve this function.3.2.3 connecting hardware, nincludes snap hooks,D-rings, carabineers, links, anchorage h

9、body harness, lanyard, anchoragemeans, and connecting hardware.3.2.5 full body harness (FBH), na component with adesign of straps which is fastened about the person in a mannerso as to contain the torso and distribute the fall arrest forcesover at least the upper thighs, pelvis, chest, and shoulders

10、 withmeans for attaching it to other components or subsystems.3.2.6 lanyards, na component consisting of a flexiblestrap, rope, or wire rope for connecting a component such as aFBH directly or indirectly to an anchorage.3.2.7 maximum arrest force, nthe maximum force actingon the body at the instant

11、of an arrest of its free fall.3.2.8 shock absorbers, na component used to reduce/absorb the energy gained by the user of the FAS when falling.3.2.9 thigh/leg straps, nthe straps, which are integratedwith the buttock strap (optional) and are routed from back tofront across the groin area or loop arou

12、nd the upper part of thethigh.3.2.10 treestand, na device designed to be affixed to a treeor its branches so as to permit an individual to sit or standthereon for the purpose of attaining an elevated position fromwhich to observe, photograph, or hunt.4. Summary of Test Method4.1 One system test shal

13、l consist of the testing of oneindividual fall arrest system unit for maximum arrest force(MAF) in accordance with the procedures in 7.1.4.2 One system test shall consist of the testing of oneindividual fall arrest system unit for performance in accordancewith the procedures in 7.2.4.3 One system te

14、st shall consist of testing one individualfall arrest system unit for dynamic strength in accordance withthe procedures in Section 8.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F08 on SportsEquipment and Facilities and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee F08.16 onArchery P

17、 physicalproperties described in 6.3 or 6.4 shall be dropped from anadequate elevation to simulate a free-fall motion from atreestand platform.5. Significance and Use5.1 This test method is intended to measure the maximumarrest force and dynamic strength on treestand FAS andcomponents or subsystems.

18、 This test is intended for programquality assurance and production quality control purposes. It isnot intended to be an independent material or product accep-tance test.6. Apparatus6.1 A vertical, rigid, round wood pole shall be used tomount the test weight torso and fall arrest system (FAS) suchtha

19、t pole deflection is minimized during testing.6.2 The mounting pole diameter shall be 10 6 1 in. andshall have a minimum height necessary for free fall to meet theprovisions of 7.1.4, 7.2.4, 8.1.3, and 9.1.3.6.3 The test weight torso used during the performance testshall weigh 220 6 2 lb. The test w

20、eight torso shall be inaccordance with ANSI Z359.1, Appendix B, Figs. 18 and 19.6.4 The test weight torso used during the dynamic strengthtest shall weigh not less than 300 lb or shall equal the weightof the stated weight capacity of the test subject 63 lb, orwhichever is greater. The torso shall al

21、so be designed such thatit closely resembles the human shape and human center ofgravity.6.5 The test weight torso and test operator shall be raised tothe required elevation by means of a man lift, forklift/basket, orother device capable of providing means to ascend to theproper elevation and provide

22、 a stable and safe workingenvironment.6.6 The free fall may be induced by manual or automaticmeans, and shall accomplish an unobstructed, continuous freefall of the test weight torso.6.7 The instrumentation used to measure the MAF of theFAS should consist of a force sensor or load cell capable ofmea

23、suring peak loads up to 3375 lb (15 kN). The recordingdata channel shall have a minimum sampling rate of 1000samples per second and an active frequency response band upto a corner frequency of 100 Hz + 1.2 dB, 3 dB.7. Performance Test Procedure7.1 The following procedures shall apply to one individu

24、alunit of a given FAS with the test torso as given in 6.3 dropped“feet first.”7.1.1 Read instructions accompanying the test subject toascertain the proper procedure for use and donning. Secure theFAS anchorage to the mounting pole and the test torso inaccordance with the device manufacturers instruc

25、tions.7.1.2 The force sensor or load cell shall be placed in serieswith the full body harness and lanyard or anchorage. The totalfall distance required is a distance of 6 ft or twice the maximumlanyard length or whichever is less.Any length added from theforce sensor or load cell and any connecting

26、hardware must besubtracted from the total fall distance.7.1.3 Prior to performing the drop test, the anchorage shallbe properly secured with a permanent stop placed directlyunder the anchorage to the backside of the pole to eliminatemovement during test.7.1.4 Attach the quick release mechanism to th

27、e test weighttorso. The test weight torso shall be raised to an elevation suchthat its free fall begins at the point above the anchorage equalto the maximum length of the lanyard (if adjustable) or adistance which allows 6 ft of free fall, whichever is less. Thetest weight torso shall be located as

28、close to the pole aspractical or not greater than 1 ft with no tension in the lanyardprior to release. In such a manner, the free-fall distance willequal twice the maximum available length or 6 ft, whichever isless.7.1.5 The test weight torso shall be dropped “feet first” orotherwise released as if

29、to simulate a free-fall from a treestandplatform. The fall should be essentially vertical with minimal“swinging” of the test subject. The fall shall be closelyobserved for any unusual or unsafe action. Measure and recordthe maximum arrest force (MAF), deceleration distance, andwhether or not any tes

30、t weight torso detaches from the harness.After the drop, the test weight torso is to remain suspended bythe FAS for a period of 5 min.7.1.6 After the FAS has been engaged, the test weight torsoshall be lowered to the ground and the FAS inspected fordamage. Compare test results to the requirements se

31、t forth in11.1-11.3.7.2 The following procedures shall apply to one individualunit of a given FAS with the test weight torso as given in 6.3dropped “face first.”7.2.1 Read instructions accompanying the test subject toascertain the proper procedure for use and donning. Secure theFAS anchorage to the

32、mounting pole and the test weight torsoin accordance with the device manufacturers instructions.7.2.2 The total fall distance required is a distance of 6 ft ortwice the maximum lanyard length, or whichever is less. Anyadded length from any connecting hardware must be subtractedfrom the total fall di

33、stance.7.2.3 Prior to performing the drop test, the anchorage shallbe properly secured with a permanent stop placed directlyunder the anchorage to the backside of the pole to eliminatemovement during test.7.2.4 Attach the quick release mechanism to the test weighttorso at a point located at the butt

34、ocks or other means ofattachment that will allow the test torso to be releasedappropriately. The test weight torso shall be raised to anelevation such that its free-fall begins at the point above theanchorage equal to the maximum length of the lanyard (ifadjustable) or a distance which allows 6 ft o

35、f free fall,whichever is less. The test weight torso shall be located asclose to the pole as practical or not greater than 1 ft with notension in the lanyard prior to release. In such a manner, thefree-fall distance will equal twice the maximum availablelength or 6 ft, whichever is less.F 2337 0827.

36、2.5 The test weight torso shall be dropped “face first” orotherwise released as if to simulate a free-fall from a treestandplatform. The fall should be essentially vertical with minimal“swinging” of the test subject. The fall shall be closelyobserved for any unusual or unsafe action. Determine wheth

37、eror not any test torso detaches from the harness. After the drop,the test weight torso is to remain suspended by the FAS for aperiod of 2 min.7.2.6 After the FAS has been engaged, the test weight torsoshall be lowered to the ground and the FAS inspected fordamage. Compare test results to the requir

38、ements set forth in11.1 and 11.2.8. Dynamic Strength Test Procedure8.1 The following procedures shall apply to one individualunit of a given FAS and test weight torso as given in 6.4 anddropped “feet first.”8.1.1 Read instructions accompanying the test subject toascertain the proper procedure for us

Secure theFAS to the mounting pole and the test weight torso inaccordance with the device manufacturers instructions.8.1.2 Prior to performing the drop test, the anchorage shallbe properly secured with a permanent stop placed directlyunder the anchorage to the backside of pole to elim

40、inatemovement during test.8.1.3 Attach the quick release mechanism to the test weighttorso. The test weight torso shall be raised to an elevation suchthat its free-fall begins at the point above the anchorage equalto the maximum length available by the lanyard or a distancewhich allows 6 ft of free

41、fall, whichever is less. The test weighttorso shall be located as close to the pole as practical or notgreater than 1 ft with no tension in the lanyard prior to release.In such a manner, the free-fall distance will equal twice themaximum available lanyard length or 6 ft, whichever is less.8.1.4 Rele

42、ase the test weight torso using the quick releasemechanism. The test weight torso shall be dropped “feet first”or otherwise released as if to simulate a free-fall from atreestand platform. The fall should be essentially vertical withminimal “swinging” of the test subject. The fall shall be closelyob

43、served for any unusual or unsafe action. After the drop, thetest weight torso is to remain suspended by the FAS for aperiod of 2 min.8.1.5 After the FAS has been engaged, the test weight torsoshall be lowered to the ground and the FAS inspected fordamage. Record the test results and whether or not t

44、he testweight torso detaches from the FBH. Compare the test resultsto the requirements set forth in 11.4.9. Climbing Belt Test ProcedureNOTE 1For use only if FAS includes integral climbing belt.9.1 The following procedures shall apply to one individualunit of a given FAS with climbing belt (if provi

45、ded) and testweight torso as given in 6.4 dropped “feet first.”9.1.1 Read instructions accompanying the test subject toascertain the proper procedure for use and donning. Secure theFAS to the mounting pole and the test weight torso inaccordance with the device manufacturers instructions.9.1.2 Prior

46、to performing the drop test, the climbing beltshall be properly secured with a permanent stop placed directlyunder the climbing belt to the backside of pole to eliminatemovement during the test.9.1.3 Attach the quick release mechanism to the neck ringon the test weight torso. The climbing belt lengt

47、h shall beadjusted to its maximum length. The test weight torso shall beraised to an elevation such that its free-fall begins at the pointabove the maximum available length of the climbing belt whenencompassing the test pole. The test weight torso shall belocated 3 in. horizontally away from the tes

48、t pole with notension in the climbing belt prior to release. In such a manner,the free-fall distance will equal twice its maximum adjustedlength in use.9.1.4 The test weight torso shall be dropped “feet first” orotherwise released as if to simulate a free-fall from a treestandplatform, ladder or oth

49、er tree climbing means. The fall shouldbe essentially vertical with minimal “swinging” of the testsubject. The fall shall be closely observed for any unusual orunsafe action. After the drop, the test weight torso is to remainsuspended by the FAS for a period of 2 min.9.1.5 After the FAS has been engaged, the test weight torsoshall be lowered to the ground and the FAS inspected fordamage. Record the test results and whether or not the testweight mannequin detaches from the FBH. Compare the testresults to the requirements set forth in 11.4.10. Recording of Test Results10
