Scope1.1 This specification covers uniform labeling criteria andpackage requirements for upright brooms for con

3、sumer andinstitutional use.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Significance and Use2.1 Information on the wording of the labels that appear onthe brooms or broom packaging will help to ensure thataccurate information

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 broomcorna grain sorgum of the species SorghumBicolor (L.) moench.3.1.1.1 DiscussionBroomcorn has a panicle consisting ofuniformly long, elastic primary branches called fibers, sui

6、tablefor manufacturing of corn brooms. To test for broomcorn: first,determine that the species is Sorghum Bicolor (L.) moench;second, remove the primary branches one-by-one; third, deter-mine if the primary branches are longer than 50 cm, more orless uniform in length, straight instead of wavy, bran

7、ching onlyat the tip and not from the base, and covered with seeds onlyat the tip, then it is a broomcorn fiber.3.1.2 filler fiberany other type of material used to addvolume or stiffness, or both, in upright broom construction.3.1.3 natural fiberany non-broomcorn vegetable fiberused in whole or par

8、t to manufacture an upright broom.3.1.4 upright brooma cleaning tool used to sweep side-to-side which has a head consisting of natural or plastic fibersaffixed to a handle and is usually twine stitched to provide aflare for wider contact with the surface to be swept.4. Classification4.1 Brooms shall

9、 be classified and labeled according tomaterial content.4.1.1 100 % BroomcornOnly contains broomcorn fiber.4.1.2 Natural FiberContaining natural fiber and broom-corn with less than 100 % broomcorn fiber content.4.1.3 Substitute FiberContaining any combination ofnatural and filler fiber with no broom

10、corn fiber.4.2 Brooms shall be classified and labeled according toweight measure, determined as follows: the weight measure isthe average weight per dozen of 2 dozen brooms, +0 lb/1lb/dozen for classifications 4.2.1-4.2.4, and 62 lb/dozen forclassifications 4.2.5 and 4.2.6. Brooms must conform tomin

11、imum weight standards per classification along with otherfunctional parameters as described by each classification. Eachindividual broom must be legibly labeled with the followingtwo items in addition to any other label(s) required by thisspecification: (1) the type of broom as defined in 4.2.1-4.2.

12、6;and (2) the weight of the broom stated as Size XX, where xxis the weight of the broom per dozen as defined in this section.4.2.1 Whisk Broom, shall weigh 3 lb or more per dozen andconstructed in a manner to be held by hand without anyprotruding handle.1This specification is under the jurisdiction

16、diameter not less than1316 in. and not more than1516 in., with an overall length notless than 52 in.4.2.5 Janitor Broom, shall weigh 25 lb or more per dozen,constructed on a handle with a diameter not less than 1 in., withan overall length not less than 54 in.4.2.6 Warehouse Broom, shall weigh 28 lb

17、 or more perdozen, constructed on a handle with a diameter not less than 1in., with an overall length not less than 54 in.5. Requirements5.1 General:5.1.1 Manufacturers of brooms shall include in their printedcopy on the broom packaging any and all labeling information.5.1.2 In the case of a broom t

18、hat is sold without packaging,the manufacturer will provide similar printed copy on aself-adhesive label which will be affixed to the handle near thehead. The label, when placed on the container, shall notthereafter be covered, obstructed, or removed by distributors orretailers.5.1.3 The printed cop

19、y or label shall be easily recognizedand read.5.1.4 The printed copy or label shall indicate the classifica-tion of the broom based on Section 4 definitions.5.1.5 Products complying with all the requirements of thisprovisional standard shall include “Meets ASTM F2367” orequivalent in the printed cop

20、y or label.6.
