Scope1.1 This specification covers low energy air guns (LEAG),commonly referred to as airsoft guns, air soft guns, or soft airguns, or any combination the

3、reof, which propel a low energyair gun projectile, as defined in 3.3.1.2 LimitationsThis specification does not cover the fol-lowing categories of gun products: Products covered bySpecifications F 589 (non-powder guns), F 2272 (paintballmarkers), F 2573 (toy products), and F 2574 (non-recreationalgu

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2 low energy air gun (LEAG), ncommonly referred toas airsoft gun, air so

7、ft gun, or soft air gun, or any combinationthereof, is a device specifically designed to expel a low energyair gun projectile, by the release of energy by compressed air,compressed gas, mechanical springs, battery or a combinationthereof, at energies commonly lower than 1.5 joule.3.3 low energy air

8、gun projectile, nis spherical, com-monly between 6 mm (.24 cal) and 8 mm (.32) and non-metallic and non-liquid filled projectile to be used in a lowenergy air gun.4. Significance and Use4.1 This specification addresses the appropriate warningsand instructions that are to be provided for literature,

9、labels,packages, and procedures for safe use of low energy air guns.5. Conformance5.1 Low energy air guns shall not, either by label or othermeans, indicate conformance with this specification unlessthey conform with the applicable requirements containedherein.6. General Requirements6.1 LiteratureLi

10、terature shall be provided with each lowenergy air gun and shall include, as applicable, the instructionsand cautionary statements specified in Section 7.6.2 PackagingPackaging shall be labeled in a prominentand conspicuous manner in accordance with the provisions ofSection 7.7. Instructions, Labeli

11、ng, and Marking7.1 GeneralPackaging and literature for low energy airguns shall contain a cautionary statement as prescribed in thisspecification.7.2 Safety disclaimers shall not be used which dilute ornegate the effectiveness of the warnings provided for in theseinstructions, labeling, and marking

12、requirements.7.3 Packaging:7.3.1 The packaging for low energy air guns shall contain acautionary statement. The statement shall be placed promi-nently on the package and set distinctively apart from otherwording or designs.7.3.2 Prominence of the statement shall be achieved byplacement within the bo

13、rders of a rectangle and by use of asuitable contrasting background. The statement may be in acombination of upper and lower case letters of a size not lessthan 8-point type. The letters in the signal word shall be least50 % larger than the letters in the other words in the cautionary1This specifica

16、al word shall be in upper case letters andpreceded by a safety alert symbol. It is composed of anequilateral triangle surrounding an exclamation mark. The baseof the safety alert symbol shall be on the same horizontal lineas the base of the letters of the signal word. The height of thesafety alert s

17、ymbol shall equal or exceed the signal wordheight. The signal word shall be in black letters on an orangebackground. The solid triangle of the safety alert symbol shallbe black and the exclamation point shall be orange. Thecautionary statement shall have either black lettering on awhite background o

18、r white lettering on a black background.When special circumstances limit the use of the warning to twocolors, the colors assigned to the signal word background mayalso be used for the cautionary statement letters, provided thatthey contrast with the background color of the product. Whenspecial circu

19、mstances preclude the use of safety colors on basematerials such as wood, cardboard, metal, plastic, and so forth,the marking used should (when feasible) contrast with thebackground color of the base material.7.3.3 The cautionary statement on packaging of all lowenergy air guns shall convey the foll

20、owing information at aminimum:7.3.3.1 A signal word “WARNING.”7.3.3.2 A warning that this is not a toy.7.3.3.3 A warning that misuse may cause serious injury,especially to the eye.7.3.3.4 A warning that eye protection designed for lowenergy air guns must be worn by the user and any personwithin rang

21、e.7.3.3.5 Instructions to read operation manual before using.7.3.3.6 The following cautionary statement may be used:“WARNINGThis is not a toy. Misuse may cause seriousinjury, especially to the eye. Eye protection designed for airsoft guns must be worn by the user and any person withinrange. Read the

22、 owners manual before using.7.3.3.7 The packaging for low energy air guns shall containa recommendation that a person be at least 18 years of age topurchase.7.3.3.8 The packaging must contain a warning that adultsupervision is required.7.3.4 The packaging for low energy air guns shall showconspicuou

23、sly the name and address of the manufacturer, thedistributor, or the dealer.7.3.5 The packaging for low energy air guns shall be clearlymarked with the following: a description of the type of lowenergy air gun enclosed in the package, the model number ofthe low energy air gun, and the caliber of the

24、 low energy airgun.7.3.6 Packaging for low energy air guns must include astatement of maximum velocity, determined using a .12 gramprojectile.7.3.7 If a low energy air gun is customarily sold without thepackaging that would normally contain the information re-quired in 7.3.17.3.6, the information re

25、quired in these sectionsshall be placed on the low energy air gun itself, either on a labelor hangtag that meets the same requirements for content,prominence, and visibility at the time of sale.7.4 Product Marking:7.4.1 Low energy air guns shall be prominently and durablymarked to convey the followi

26、ng information at a minimum:7.4.1.1 A signal word “WARNING.”7.4.1.2 A warning that this is not a toy.7.4.1.3 A warning that eye protection must be worn toprevent serious injury to eye.7.4.1.4 Instructions to read operation manual before using.7.4.1.5 The following cautionary statement may be used:WA

27、RNINGNot a toy. Wear eye protection to preventserious injury to the eye. Read owners manual before using.7.4.2 Each low energy air gun shall be durably marked withthe name of the manufacturer, distributor, or retailer; the modelnumber or name that will allow proper identification of the lowenergy ai

28、r gun by the user; and the caliber of projectile.7.5 Literature Accompanying Low Energy Air Guns:7.5.1 The instructions and warnings communicating to theuser the information included in this section shall be providedas a leaflet or brochure packed with the low energy air gun, orattached to the low e

29、nergy air gun.7.5.1.1 A cautionary statement as noted in 7.3.3 shall beplaced prominently in the literature or attached to the lowenergy air gun. Prominence of the statement shall be achievedby placement within the borders of a rectangle and by use of asuitable contrasting background. The statement

30、may be in acombination of upper and lower case letters of a size bearing areasonable relationship to the other type on the literature or tag,but no less than 8-point type. The signal word shall be at least50 % larger than the other words in the literature or tag.7.5.1.2 Instructions shall properly i

31、nstruct or inform the userabout the following:(1) Handle and operate the low energy air gun safely.(2) Select safe and proper targets.(3) Care for and maintain the gun properly.(4) Store the gun unloaded in a safe and proper manner, andcheck to see that the gun is unloaded when removed fromstorage o

32、r received from another person.(5) Treat every low energy air gun as if it were loaded.(6) Always wear eye protection designed for low energy airguns when handling or shooting or in range of any low energyair guns, and wear them over prescription glasses.(7) Keep your finger off the trigger until re

33、ady to shoot.(8) Never point the low energy air gun at anything you donot wish to shoot.(9) Keep the low energy air gun on safe until ready toshoot.(10) Avoid ricochet. Never shoot at a hard or flat surface orat water.(11) Backstops should be inspected for wear before andafter each use. Discontinue

34、use if the backstop surface showssigns of failure. Since backstop surfaces eventually fail, alwaysplace the backstop in a location that will be safe should thebackstop fail. Discontinue the use of a backstop if the projectilerebounds or ricochets.(12) Perform routine inspection and maintenance, incl

35、ud-ing:(a) Modification of the gun mechanism may cause a gunto malfunction and tampering with a gun may make it unsafeto use.F2654072(b) Any change in the performance, such as loweredtrigger force and shortened trigger travel, indicates possiblewear and that such guns should be inspected, replaced,

36、orproperly repaired, and repairs should only be made by qualifiedpersonnel.(c) Check any gun that has been dropped to ensure that itsfunction has not been affected.(d) Information shall be included to indicate how toobtain service and locate authorized repair shops.7.5.1.3 Information shall be provi

37、ded which identifies thetype and caliber of the projectile or projectiles intended for usein the low energy air gun. Also include information that use ofincorrect projectiles may not be safe (and that low energy airgun projectiles should not be reused).7.5.1.4 The instructions shall contain a warnin

38、g that adultsupervision is required.7.5.1.5 The instructions shall contain a warning not tomisuse the gun and that brandishing it in public or changing thecoloration and markings to make it look more like a firearmmay confuse people and may be a crime.7.5.1.6 Information shall be provided which iden

39、tifies thetype of propellant or energy source intended for use in the lowenergy air gun. Instructions for proper use and handling,including application and removal of propellants such as CO2cylinders, or energy sources such as batteries shall be included.The literature shall indicate the operating t

40、emperature rangerecommended for each low energy air gun. Any specialoperating conditions shall be identified for proper high andlow-temperature use.7.5.1.7 If the low energy air gun does not have a safetymechanism, it shall so state.7.5.1.8 Information shall be provided to indicate the maxi-mum velo

41、city of the low energy air gun, determined using a .12gram projectile.8.
