Scope*1.1 This specification covers metric-sized crosslinked poly-ethylene (PEX) pipe that is outside diameter con

3、trolled, madein nominal pipe dimension ratios, and pressure rated for waterat three temperatures (see Appendix X1). Included are require-ments and test methods for material, workmanship, dimen-sions, burst pressure, hydrostatic sustained pressure, excessivetemperature-pressure, environmental stress

4、cracking, stabilizerfunctionality, bent-pipe hydrostatic pressure, oxidative stabilityin potable chlorinated water, and degree of crosslinking.Requirements for pipe markings are also given. The pipecovered by this specification is intended for buried pressurepiping applications (such as, industrial

5、and general-purposepipelines, potable water pipelines, fire extinguishing pipe-lines). This specification also includes carbon black require-ments for PEX pipe used for aboveground pressure pipingapplications.1.2 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes,and appendixes, which provid

Plastic pipe denotes a par-ticular diameter schedule of plastic pipe in which outsidediameter of the pipe conforms with ISO 4427.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.3 crosslinked polyethylene plasticsplastics prepared bycrosslinking (curing) p

22、olyethylene compounds.3.4 hydrostatic design stress (HDS)the estimated maxi-mum tensile stress the material is capable of withstandingcontinuously with a high degree of certainty that failure of thepipe will not occur. This stress is circumferential when internalhydrostatic water pressure is applied

29、ies in accordance with applicableASTM standards and as shown in Table 1.3.9.1 DiscussionThe first digit is for chlorine resistancetested in accordance with Test Method F2023.(1) A digit “0” indicates that the PEX pipe either has not beentested for chlorine resistance or that the PEX pipe does notmee

30、t the minimum requirement for chlorine resistance.(2) A digit “1” indicates the PEX pipe has been tested andmeets the F XXXX requirement for minimum chlorine resis-tance at the end use condition of 25% at 140F (60C) and 75%at 73F (23C).(3) A digit “2” is reserved for future application.(4) A digit “

This digit isreserved for a currently unspecified PEX pipe property.3.9.3 Disc

35、ussionThe last two digits are the hydrostaticdesign stress for water at 73F (23C) in units of 100 psi withany decimal figures dropped. Where the hydrostatic designstress code contains less than two figures, a zero is used beforethe number. Thus, a complete material designation code forPEX pipe shall

36、 consist of the three letters 9PEX9 and fourdigits.4. Pipe Classification4.1 GeneralThis specification covers one PEX pipe ma-terial having pressure ratings for water at three temperatures.The pressure ratings decrease as the temperature is increased.4.2 Standard Dimension Ratio (SDR)This specificat

37、ioncovers PEX pipe in various standard dimension ratios anddimension ratios for nominal diameters 16 mm (12 in) andlarger. The pressure ratings are uniform for all nominal pipesizes with the same DR or SDR.5. Materials5.1 GeneralCrosslinked polyethylene pipe, meeting therequirements of this specific

38、ation, are primarily defined bymeans of three criteria, namely, (1) nominal density, (2) degreeof crosslinking, and (3) long-term strength tests. There is astrong correlation between nominal density and results ofshort-term strength tests.NOTE 2PEX pipe intended for use in the transport of potable w

39、atershould be evaluated and certified as safe for this purpose by a testingagency acceptable to the local health authority. The evaluation should bein accordance with requirements for chemical extraction, taste, and odorthat are no less restrictive than those included in NSF/ANSI 14. The sealor mark

40、 of the laboratory making the evaluation should be included on thepipe.5.2 Basic MaterialsPEX pipe shall be made from poly-ethylene compounds which have been crosslinked by perox-ides, Azo compounds, or silane compounds in extrusion, or byelectron beam after extrusion, or by other means such that th

41、epipe meets the performance requirements of Section 6. For theuse temperatures that the pipe will be marked for, the materials,procedure for mixing, and the process for crosslinking shallresult in a product with long term hydrostatic stress ratingsequal better than those shown in Table 2, when deter

42、mined inaccordance with procedures no less restrictive than those ofPPI TR-39. SeeAppendix X1 for additional information on PPIhydrostatic stress ratings.NOTE 3Pipe produced by crosslinking by peroxides,Azo compounds,or silane compounds in extrusion, or by electron beam after extrusion havemet the r

47、aterial DesignationThe pipe meeting the re-quirements of this specification shall be designated PEX.5.4 Carbon BlackWhen black PEX pipe is intended foraboveground applications, the black PEX compound shallcontain 2% to 3% carbon black. When PEX pipe is intended forapplications other than above groun

48、d (UV exposed), seeAppendix X2 for UV labeling guidelines.NOTE 4Plastics Pipe Institute literature states, “It has been demon-strated that a minimum of 2% well-dispersed very fine particle carbonblack is sufficient protection for continuous outdoor service”.6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe sha

49、ll be homogeneousthroughout and free of visible cracks, holes, foreign inclusions,or other defects. The pipe shall be as uniform as commerciallypracticable in color, opacity, density, and other physical prop-erties.6.2 Out-of RoundnessThe maximum out-of roundnessrequirements, shown in Table 3 for pipe, apply to the average,measured diameter after rounding with a rounding tool recom-mended by the manufacturer.6.3 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.3.1 Outside DiametersThe outside diameters and toler-ances shall be as shown in Ta
