Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.INTRODUCTIONThis consumer safety specification is intended to address incidents reported by the U.S. ConsumerProduct Safety Commission (CPSC) relating to bedside
3、sleepers.In response to the incident data compiled by the CPSC, this consumer safety specification attemptsto minimize the hazards associated with these products from the following: (1) occupant retention, (2)structural integrity and product assembly, and (3) deficiency of consumer education regardi
4、ng productuse. This consumer safety specification is intended to deal with reasonably foreseeable use and misuseof the products. This consumer safety specification does not apply to products that are blatantlymisused, nor does it apply to products used by consumers in a careless manner that violate
5、normalpractice or disregard the instructions or warnings provided with the product, or both.1. Scope1.1 This consumer safety specification establishes perfor-mance requirements, test methods and marking requirements topromote safe use of bedside sleepers.1.2 This consumer safety specification is int
6、ended to mini-mize the risk of injury to an infant from the normal use andreasonably foreseeable misuse of a bedside sleeper.1.3 This consumer safety performance specification coversproducts intended to provide sleeping space for an infant up toapproximately 5 months of age (or when child begins to
7、pushup on hands and knees). These products are intended to besecured to the side of an adult bed for the purpose of having ababy sleep in close proximity to an adult.1.4 No bedside sleeper produced after the approval date ofthis consumer safety specification shall, either by label or othermeans, ind
8、icate compliance with the specification unless itcomplies with all of the requirements contained herein.1.5 This consumer safety performance specification is notintended to address incidents and injuries resulting fromalteration or unreasonable abuse or misuse of the product by achild or child care

19、 that contains the occupant.4. Calibration and Standardization4.1 All testing shall be conducted on a concrete floor thatmay be covered with18 in. (3 mm) thick vinyl floor covering,unless test instructs differently.4.2 The product shall be completely assembled in accor-dance with the manufacturers i
20、nstructions.4.3 No testing shall be conducted within 48 h of manufac-ture.4.4 The product to be tested shall be at an ambient tempera-ture of 73 6 9F (23 6 5C) for at least one hour beforetesting.All testing shall be conducted in this temperature range.4.5 All testing required by this consumer safet
21、y specifica-tion shall be conducted on the same unit in the order presentedin this specification.5. Performance Requirements5.1 Prior to or immediately after testing to this consumersafety specification, the bedside sleeper must be tested toConsumer Safety Specification F2194. Multi-mode productsmus
22、t also be tested to each applicable standard. When testingto Consumer Safety Specification F2194 the unit shall be freestanding, and not be secured to the test platform as dictatedelsewhere in this standard.5.1.1 The bassinet minimum side height shall be as requiredin Consumer Safety Specification F
23、2194 with the exception ofa lowered side rail as permitted in 5.4.5.2 When the product is secured to the Test Platform 2 from7.1.2 of Consumer Safety Specification F2085, per the manu-facturers recommended method, there shall be no more than12in. (13 mm) separation from the bed measured at any point
24、along the length of the line of contact between the product andthe test platform.5.3 Product Disengagement:5.3.1 The bedside sleeper shall not separate from the testplatform more than 1 in. (2.5 cm) at any point of attachment tothe test platform when tested in accordance with 6.1.1-6.1.3.5.3.2 The b
25、edside sleeper may separate from the test plat-form more than 1 in. (2.5 cm) during application of the forcein 6.1.4 but shall not remain separated more than 1 in. (2.5 cm)after removal of the force.5.4 The bedside sleeper shall have a barrier around theentire perimeter of the occupant retention spa
26、ce. If a bedsidesleeper is equipped with a side or end portion which is loweror partially lowers by any means, the height of the side rail inthe lowest position shall be no less than 4 in. (10.2 cm) whenmeasured from the top of the uncompressed bedside sleepermattress to the top of the lowered side
27、rail, when the mattresssupport is in its highest position.5.4.1 Four-Inch Nest RationaleThe center of gravity(CG) of a child lying down on his/her side is roughly thecenterline of the body. Since maximum shoulder breadth for 3to 5 month olds is 21.8 cm (8.6 in.) (Snyder, 1977), half of thatis 10.9 c
28、m (4.3 in.). Also, maximum hip breadth for the sameage range is 18.2 cm (7.2 in.), half of which is 9.1 cm (3.6 in.).Assuming that the CG lies approximately along the centerlineof the body and the child is laying with one side flat on themattress, the CG will likely lie roughly between 9 cm and 11cm
29、 above the mattress.5.5 If a bedside sleeper is equipped with a side or endportion which partially lowers by any means, it shall remainengaged and operative after testing as follows:5.5.1 Each single-action locking or latching device that isprovided to prevent folding shall require a minimum force o
30、f10 lbf (45 N) to activate the release mechanism when tested inaccordance with 6.2.5.5.2 Each double-action locking or latching device that isprovided to prevent folding shall require two distinct andseparate actions for release. There are no force requirementsfor double-action locking or latching d
31、evices.5.6 The bedside sleeper must provide a means to be securedto an adult bed and the top rail designed to be adjacent to theadult bed shall be at or below the acceptable adult bed heightrange specified in the instructional literature.6. Test Methods6.1 Product Disengagement Test Method:6.1.1 Ass
32、emble the bedside sleeper in the manufacturersrecommended use position(s) utilizing Test Platform 2 fromConsumer Safety Specification F2085, subsection 7.1.2. Thefoundation of Test Platform 2 shall be placed in a commonmetal bed frame.6.1.2 Apply 25 lbf (111 N) to the midpoint of a horizontalcross m
33、ember closest in height to the attachment means on thebedside sleeper structure (manufacturer illustration), and in adirection most likely to dislodge the bedside sleeper from thetest platform. The load shall be applied througha2by2in.(50by 50 mm) wood block gradually over 5 s and held for 10 s.Meas
34、ure the maximum separation of the product from the topof the mattress of Test Platform 2 while the force is beingapplied.F2906 1226.1.3 Apply 25 lbf (111 N) to one outside corner of theBedside Sleeper structure closest to Test Platform 2 (manufac-turer illustration). Apply the force to the structure
35、 perpendicu-lar to the length of the bed within 2 in. (50 mm) of the topsurface of Test Platform 2 and in a direction most likely todislodge the bedside sleeper from the test platform. The loadshall be applied througha2by2in.(50by50mm)wood blockgradually over 5 s and held for 10 s. Measure the separ
36、ation ofthe product from Test Platform 2 at the height of the top of themattress on the bed while the force is being applied. Repeat onthe other outside corner of the products structure closest toTest Platform 2.6.1.4 Apply a 50 lbf (225 N) to each of the previously testedlocations without adjusting
37、 the product. Apply the force over aperiod of 5 s. After removing the force, measure the maximumseparation of the product from the Test Platform 2 at the heightof the top of the mattress.6.1.4.1 Product Disengagement RationaleTests areneeded to insure product integrity and that a bedside sleeperprod
38、uct remains secured to the adult bed during foreseeable useand misuse of the product. The 25 lbf tests represent themaximum forces that an infant could apply to the product whilelocated inside of the sleeping area. The 50 lbf tests representthe maximum forces that an adult may exert on the bedsidesl
39、eeper product by rolling into the product while sleeping orsiblings pulling on the unit while attached to an adult bed. Testforces include a safety factor of 2 times the force.6.2 Folding Latch Test MethodWith the product in themanufacturers recommended use position, gradually apply aforce of 10 lbf
40、 (45 N) to the locking mechanism in the directiontending to unlock it.7. Marking and Labeling7.1 All bedside sleeper products shall comply with themarking and labeling requirements of Consumer Safety Speci-fication F2194.7.2 In addition to the requirements of 7.1, all bedsidesleeper products must in
41、clude the marking and labeling in 7.3and 7.4.7.2.1 The warning statements shall be in contrasting col-or(s) and be permanent. The text shall be sans serif type.7.2.2 In the warning statements, the safety alert symbol “”and the word “WARNING” shall precede the warning state-ments at each location whe
42、re warnings are provided and shallnot be less than 0.2 in. (5 mm) high. The remainder of the textshall be in characters whose upper case shall be at least 0.1 in.(2.5 mm) high.7.3 Retail Packaging:7.3.1 The retail packaging shall contain statements thataddress the following:7.3.1.1 This bedside slee
43、per is designed for use only withadult beds that are between _ and _ inches from floor totop of adult mattress.7.3.1.2 The manufacturer shall provide information on thetypes of adult beds with which the bedside sleeper CANNOTbe used. Graphics shall be used showing an unacceptable bedconfiguration wi
44、th the mattress, box springs not in line with theframe (such as some platform beds) and conversely an accept-able bed configuration with the mattress, box springs and frameall in line (see Fig. 1 for examples).7.3.1.3 A bedside sleeper is designed to provide a sleepingarea for an infant until he or
45、she begins to push up on hands andknees or approximately 5 months of age. Move your child toanother sleeping product when your child reaches this stage.7.4 Product Warnings:7.4.1 7.4.1 Warnings on the product shall address thefollowing:7.4.1.1 Entrapment HazardTo prevent death from entrap-ment, beds
46、ide sleeper must be properly secured to adult bedusing the attachment system.(1) There must be no more than12 in. (13 mm) gapbetween bedside sleeper and adult bed.(2) Check tightness before each use by pulling bedsidesleeper in a direction away from adult bed.(3) If gap exceeds12 in. (13 mm), DO NOT
