Scope1.1 This specification covers the requirements for nonfer-rous socket set screws sizes 0.125 (#5) thro

3、ugh 2.000 in.,square head set screws sizes 0.190 (#10) through 1.500 in., andslotted headless set screws 0.125 (#5) through 0.750 in. indiameter manufactured from a number of nonferrous alloys inuse in the marine industry and the U.S. Navy subject toseawater wetting and salt atmosphere but that also

4、 may be usedin other applications. It is recommended that copper-basedalloys not be used in attempting to prevent mechanical com-ponents from rotating, such as locking shafts, because of thelow hardness of the alloys. Some alloys or sizes or both of setscrews may not be readily available. Manufactur

Classification3.1 The designation of the alloys of this specification shallbe consistent with th

Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:4.1.1 Quantity (number of screws);4.1.2 Name of the screw (hex socket set screw, slottedheadless set screw, or square head set screw);4.1.3 Dimensions,

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Materials:5.1.1 The screws shall be manufactured from materia

24、lhaving a chemical composition conforming to the requirementsin Table 1 and capable of developing the required mechanicalproperties for the specified alloy in the finished fastener.5.1.2 The starting condition of the raw material shall be atthe discretion of the fastener manufacturer but shall be su

25、chthat the finished products conform to all of the specifiedrequirements.5.2 Manufacture:5.2.1 FormingThe screw may be forged, cold or hotformed, or machined from suitable material at the option of thesupplier to meet requirements.5.2.2 ConditionThe fasteners shall be furnished in thefollowing condi

Chemical Composition6.1 The analysis of the screw material shall conform to thechemical composition specif

28、ied in Table 1.6.2 Manufacturers AnalysisWhen test reports are re-quired on the inquiry or purchase order (see 4.1.8), themanufacturer shall make individual analyses of randomlyselected finished fasteners from the product to be shipped andreport the results to the purchaser, except as provided in 6.

29、3.2.Alternatively, if heat and lot identities have been maintained,the analysis of the raw material from which the fasteners havebeen manufactured may be reported instead of product analy-sis.6.3 Product Analysis:6.3.1 Product analyses may be made by the purchaser fromfinished products representing

30、each lot. The chemical compo-sition thus determined shall conform to the requirements inTable 1.6.3.2 In the event of disagreement, a referee chemicalanalysis of samples from each lot shall be made in accordancewith 11.1 and 11.1.1.7. Dimensions8.1 Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser, the productshall conform to the requirements of ASME B18.3 for hexsocket set screws or ASME B18.6.2 for slotted headless setscrews or square head set screws. Threads shall be in accor-dance with ASME B1.1. Unless otherwise spec

45、ified by thepurchaser, socket set screws shall be UNC-3Aand square headset screws and slotted headless set screws shall be UNC-2A.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 WorkmanshipScrews shall be clean and have a work-manlike finish free of injurious burrs, seams, laps, irregularsurfaces, and oth

46、er imperfections affecting serviceability. Un-less otherwise prohibited by the purchaser, broach petalsadhering solidly to the bottom of the socket are acceptableprovided the socket dimensions are in accordance with ASMEB18.3.9.2 FinishUnless otherwise specified, except for titaniumalloy screws, the

47、 fasteners shall be furnished without anadditive chemical or metallic finish.9.2.1 All titanium alloy fasteners shall be anodized inaccordance with SAE AMS2487 or AMS2488 Type 2 (excepttesting requirements may be negotiated between manufacturerand coating supplier) unless otherwise specified by the

48、pur-chaser.9.2.2 Black oxide coating (BOC), if specified, shall be inaccordance with SAE AMS2485. Supplementary preservativetreatment is not required. It may be necessary to undercut thethreads before coating to allow for thread gaging after coating.9.3 Surface DiscontinuitiesThe surface discontinui

49、ties forthese products shall conform to Specification F788/F788M andthe additional limitations specified herein.9.3.1 Processing cracks that connect the socket to theperiphery of the screw are not permissible. Defects originatingon the periphery with a traverse indicating a potential tointersect are not permissible. For peripheral discontinuities, themaximum depth may be 0.06 D.10.
