Scope1.1 This practice describes the procedures for the rehabili-tation of potable water pipes using spray-applie

3、d polymericcoatings for pipelines constructed of iron, steel, or asbestoscement using resin materials that have been certified inaccordance with NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for the in-situ liningof potable water mains.1.2 This practice applies to potable water pipelines con-structed of metallic or asbestos

4、 cement piping in the diameterranges of 4 in. (10 cm) to 36 in. (90 cm). Specialist adviceshould be sought from the product manufacturer for polymericlinings applied to other nonmetallic surfaces and for appliedlinings outside of these diametric limitations.1.3 This practice applies to in-situ pipes

5、 requiring AWWAClass I (nonstructural) linings through Class III (semi-structural) linings (see AWWA M28).1.4 This practice does not address lining system design.Assistance with lining system design is available from liningsystem manufacturers and operators who have been profession-ally trained and

22、onveyance.4. Summary of Practice4.1 This practice describes the procedures for the rehabili-tation of potable water mains using spray-applied polymericcoatings for the inside of pipes. It includes materialrequirements, cleaning requirements, lining procedures, perfor-mance requirements (testing) and

23、 quality control provisions.5. Significance and Use5.1 This practice is for use by water utilities or otherowners, contractors, specifiers, regulatory agencies, inspectionorganizations or other users who are involved in the rehabili-tation of potable water pipelines and wish to specify or permitthe

24、use of spray-applied polymeric liners.6. Material Requirements6.1 The polymeric lining materials used for in-situ, spray-applied lining of water mains shall be evaluated, tested andcertified for conformance with NSF/ANSI 61 or the healtheffects portion of NSF/ANSI 14 and NSF/ANSI 372 by anaccredited

25、 third party certification organization when requiredby the regulatory authority having jurisdiction. These certifi-cation requirements relate to the effect of these materials onwater quality and do not indicate fitness for use or purpose interms of physical performance.6.2 It shall be the manufactu

26、rers responsibility to providethe owner or his designated representative with the physicalperformance and test data for the supplied polymeric liningmaterials (see 8.5). It shall be the manufacturers furtherresponsibility to ensure that testing and certification for thesematerial and physical perfor

27、mance parameters is obtainedusing accredited third-party certification organizations testinglaboratories. These testing reports and certifications shall bemade available to the owners representative upon request.7. Lining Procedures7.1 GeneralThe lining materials shall be applied in accor-dance with

28、 the manufacturers recommendations using themeans and methods specified by the manufacturer. All liningapplications shall be completed by manufacturer-approved,certified applicators, using manufacturer-approved, calibratedequipment and written procedures. All material applicationsshall be pre-planne

29、d by a certified applicator in accordancewith the manufacturers recommendations and subject to thequality control requirements of Section 9 of this practice.7.1.1 All lining equipment used in the lining process shallbe sanitized for contact with potable water to the satisfaction ofthe contract provi

30、sions or owner. This includes cleaningequipment, spray rig including umbilical/tether, and CCTVequipment contacting the water pipe. Controls shall be put inplace by the certified applicator to ensure that lining equipmentdoes not bring contaminants into the pipe. The use of multipleapplication linin

31、g equipment for water pipe lining operationsshall only be permitted when pre-authorized by the owner, andonly after full sanitary cleaning measures imposed by theowner have been taken and proven.7.2 Preparatory PlanningComprehensive planning is re-quired before the commencement of polymeric lining o

32、pera-tions. The following list of considerations is provided to theuser for guidance and is not exhaustive:(1) Review and analysis of system architecture, surface andsubsurface information,(2) zoning restrictions and regulations,(3) safety and health concerns and requirements,(4) access and egress c

33、onsiderations,(5) customer care planning,(6) environmental concerns (weather, waste disposal),(7) flow bypass requirements and arrangements,(8) traffic control,(9) availability of water and provisions for alternativesupplies,(10) discussions and meetings with other utilities, highwayauthorities and

34、fire services, disinfection regulations andoperations,(11) permitted hours for lining operations, and(12) bylaws/regulations affecting lining operations.7.3 Flow Bypass SystemWhenever the continuance watersupply is required for customers connected to the pipelinesbeing lined, the bypass shall be des

35、igned, installed and testedF3182 162to meet the requirements of the contract documents and localhealth regulations. The bypass system shall receive the ap-proval of the owner and local health officer prior to thecommencement of lining operations. The bypass system shallbe monitored and maintained fo

36、r the full duration of liningoperations. The bypass system must remain in service until thelined main has been fully returned to service.7.4 Pipeline Access:7.4.1 The main to be lined is isolated by closing all relevantsupply valves and accessed at planned locations above groundor by localized remov

37、al of the surface pavement or concretewhere the main is buried below ground.7.4.2 For buried mains, pits are then excavated, followed bythe cutting and removal of a section of pipeline, and drainingit prior to cleaning. Access is preferably completed at a valve,bend, fitting, or other location where

38、ver an excavation isneeded for cleaning and lining operations. Piping componentssuch as air valves, flow meters, butterfly valves, and pressurereducing valves (are generally) be removed prior to cleaning,and then replaced after lining.7.4.3 Access pits are typically drained/dried for safety andhealt

39、h (personnel and contamination) and are suitably coveredor barricaded when not in use. Care shall be taken by theapplicator to erect proper barricades and signage around theseexcavations to prevent accidents or injuries.7.5 Different producers, manufacturers and certified appli-cators will have diff

40、erent capabilities and configurations fortheir lining equipment, which impacts the nature and frequencyof access required to accomplish the lining work. Users andowners are encouraged to check with the certified applicator inplanning the access requirements for each project.7.6 Pipeline Cleaning and

41、 Preparation:7.6.1 The quality of cleaning and preparation is paramountif polymeric linings are to be applied successfully. The interiorof metallic piping system surfaces shall be cleaned to achievea clean metal surface conforming to the SSPC-SP 7/NACENO. 4 standard for the pipeline and the SSPC-SP

42、6/NACE NO.3 standard for service connections and terminations.7Serviceconnections are often sites for dissimilar metal corrosion, andcorrosion products must be fully removed around each serviceto ensure a leak-tight lining seal/bond at the service connec-tions.7.6.2 Any cleaning and preparation meth

43、od used shall cleanand prepare the pipe in order to meet the performancerequirements of this section.7.6.3 The cleaning method chosen shall achieve the removalof all foreign material on the pipe wall and around serviceconnections, including sediment, corrosion, biofilm and graph-ite.7.6.4 Previously

44、-applied coatings are typically removedunless the residual coating is tightly-bonded, and the coatingmanufacturer has specified that the particular residual materialcan be over-coated.7.6.5 When viewed without magnification, the cleaned,prepared surface shall be free of all visible contamination pri

45、orto coating.7.6.6 The pipeline shall also be dried and left free of visiblemoisture (free standing water) in both the pipe and the pipejoints prior to lining.7.6.7 The cleaning technology chosen shall consider andtake precautions to minimize potential damage to serviceconnections, appurtenances and

46、 the host pipe. All cleaningresidue and contamination shall be disposed of in accordancewith the owners stipulations.7.7 Pre-Lining Inspection:7.7.1 A closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspection of thecleaned pipe must be carried out prior to lining to verify thequality of pipe cleaning, level of su

47、rface preparation, and pipedryness, as well as the presence of unmapped fittings or bends,deep (protruding) ferrules, excessive lead jointing material orother flow restrictions, and to visually verify the integrity of thepipeline (for example, cracks, gaps, holes) prior to liningoperations. This rec

48、orded inspection will examine serviceconnections and joints for evidence of leakage or damage.7.7.2 The inspection will ascertain the removal of pipingcomponents such as air valves, flow meters, butterfly valves,gate and pressure reducing valves. Only service connections(ferrules) are to be lined in

49、 place, except for deep-protruding orfaulty/damaged ferrules, which are to be replaced prior tolining.7.7.3 The inspection will also determine whether spot re-pairs (patches, clamps, seals, new valves) are needed beforelining. Such decisions will also consider the gap and hole-spanning capabilities of the lining material as well as in-situconditions (for example, surface and soil loads, groundwater,and soil conditions).7.7.4 The applicator will provide a copy of the pre-lininginspection video to the owner or the owners representative forreview and approv
