14、communication Industry Solutions (ATIS) serves the public through improved understanding between carriers, customers, and manufacturers. The Automatic Identification & Data Capture Committee establishes guidelines for common shipping labels, product marking labels, product changes and software issua
15、nce standards. These common guidelines simplify the receiving, shipping, transportation and tracing of telecommunications products through company and industry business processes and the global supply chain. The Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC - Formerly BCSC) Committee was a former
16、working committee of the Telecommunications Industry Forum. The mandatory requirements are designated by the word shall and recommendations by the word should. Where both a mandatory requirement and a recommendation are specified for the same criterion, the recommendation represents a goal currently

22、ied with a code, this guideline and its recommended coding structures applies. This guideline applies to all hardware and software products as well as services utilized by telecommunications industry companies regardless of the distribution channel. It covers all products including those where there
23、 are special requirements such as product interchangeability, product traceability, capital investment tracking, separations data, etc., that are vital to the management of the product. Character
32、: A letter, digit, or other special form that is used as part of the organization, control, or representation of data. A character is often in the form of a spatial arrangement of adjacent or connected strokes. Company Prefix: A component of the GS1 System. GS1 Member Organizations assign GS1 Compan
33、y Prefixes to entities that administer the allocation of GS1 System identification numbers. These entities may be, for example, commercial companies, not for profit organizations, governmental agencies, and business units within organizations. Criteria to qualify for the assignment of an GS1 Company
34、 Prefix are set by the GS1 Member Organizations. Element: A fundamental, essential, or irreducible constituent of a composite entity. Field Identifiers (FID): A 2 to 4 alphanumeric code which conveys specific instructions needed to implement products and services. Global Trade Item Number (GTIN): A
35、form of item identification based on the structure and format rules established by GS1 in the GS1 General Specifications. GS1: A global organization for the design and implementation of global standards and solutions for the purpose of improving the efficiency and visibility of supply and demand cha
36、ins globally and across sectors. GS1 administers the GS1 system. Originating from the retail industries in the United States and Europe, GS1 was formerly the consolidation of the Uniform Code Council (UCC) in North America and EAN International in the rest of the world. GS1 standards are permitted t
37、o be used in several industries in addition to retail, although retail is its primary industry. Unique Item Identifier (UII): A globally unique identifier and unambiguous for an item supplied to the United Department of Defense. The data elements required to form a UII include the manufacturers iden
38、tification and the items serial number. If the manufacturer serializes within part number, that data element shall also be encoded. Uniform Service Order Code (USOC): A 3 to 5 alphanumeric code which is utilized by the service order process to provision, bill, and maintain services and equipment. 5T

40、ions Industry Solutions 4 Recommended Product Identification Coding Structures This guideline has identified and recommends the CLEI Code and/or the GS1 System product identification coding structures (which are associated to the manufacturers equipment identifier) for use by telecommunications indu
41、stry companies. If the product does not have a GS1 identifier or a CLEI Code assigned, then the manufacturers equipment identifier shall be used. This guideline also includes information on structuring the Item Unique Item Identification (IUID), as required by the United States Department of Defense
42、 (DoD). 4.1 CLEI Codes CLEI Codes are intelligent codes that conform to the requirements of ANSI Standard ATIS-0300213 and provide the coded identification of equipment entities allowing information exchange. 4.1.1 Principles & Definition of CLEI Codes CLEI Codes identify communications equipment in
43、 a concise, consistent feature oriented language. These codes describe product type, features, source documents and associated drawings and vintages. 4.1.2 Structure of CLEI Equipment Codes A CLEI Code is an intelligent code that consists of 10 alpha-numeric characters with 4 data elements. The firs
44、t data element is considered the basic code with the first 2 characters indicating the technology or equipment type with the third and fourth characters denoting the functional sub-category. The second data element represents the features and its three characters denote functional capabilities or ch
45、anges. The third data element has one character and denotes a reference to manufacturer, system ID, specification or drawing. The fourth data element consists of two characters and contains complementary data. These two characters provide a means of differentiating or providing uniqueness between th

48、 in ATIS-0300039, the 9th position would contain the character “T”. 4.1.3 CLEI Codes as a “Primary” Identification The first seven (7) characters of a CLEI Code represent a product and the additional three (3) characters indicate the manufacturer, system identifier, and vintage of that product, but
49、not a specific physical entity. Each and every plug-in circuit board which are all intended to be identical to the consumer are considered to be the same product and have the same first seven (7) characters of the CLEI Code. Thus the CLEI Code can be considered a “primary” identification number.
