This Part of this Britis

11、h Standard has been prepared under the authority of the Mechanical Engineering Industry Standards Committee. It relates solely to dimensions and tolerances for shank sections for single point cutting tools, either butt welded high speed steel tools, carbide tipped turning and planing tools or tool h

12、older bits. Essentially based on ISO Recommendation R 241 1) , this Part of this standard takes account of the requirements of ISO Recommendations R 243 2)and R 514 3)and BS 4500 4) . Consideration has also been given to existing practices of British tool holder bit manufacturers, and to the require

13、ments of ancillary tool holding equipment and certain continental users. Dimensions of rectangular shapes which are also in demand are shown in Appendix A as non-preferred sizes, as these dimensions are not in the ratio of1.6:1, although, with the exception of two sizes, they also conform to dimensi

14、ons shown in ISO/R 241 1) . Part 2 of this standard will deal with nomenclature for single point cutting tools and will supersede BS 1886:1952. BS 1296:1961, which relates to butt welded single point cutting tools and blanks (imperial units), will be withdrawn in due course, and should not be used f

15、or new designs. Its place will be taken by a Part 3 of this standard, which will be in metric units. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard

Square. Rectangular. 2 Dimensions The preferred sizes of shank sections are shown in Table 1. Non-

In the case of rectangular sections, the tolerance should be the relative tolerance for the height of the section and should be applied to the

22、 are included as they are still in use. However, as they do not conform to the preferred ratio of 1.6 : 1 for height against width it is recommended that they should not be considered for new designs of equipment.
