Many of the fabrics specified in the1

10、967 edition of BS1781 for sheets, sheeting, pillowslips and miscellaneous cloths have been deleted since they are no longer purchased in sufficient quantities to justify inclusion in this revision. This new edition of BS1781 supersedes the1967 edition which is therefore withdrawn. This edition does

11、not include any reference to standard patterns, which were formerly supplied by BSI as BS1781P, and could be used to assess properties not specified in the standard. Standard patterns may now be available from the purchasing authority mentioned in the tender or contract, and on publication of this B

12、ritish Standard it is proposed to formally withdraw BS1781P. This standard does not specify requirements for the scale of sampling to be used. In appropriate cases guidance can be obtained from BS6001. This standard has been produced following publication of BS5815 and reference is made to that stan

13、dard for dimensions of sheets, sheeting and pillowslips. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from leg

15、on the inside front cover.BS1781:1981 BSI 09-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for the materials, manufacture, making-up and testing of linen and linen union textiles for use, for example, in the public sector. 2 References The titles of the publications referred to in this

16、 British Standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Materials Linen yarns used in the manufacture of these fabrics shall be spun from retted flax. Up to5% of man-made fibre may be added as an aid to the spinning process. Cotton yarns used in union fabrics or introduced for identification or dec

17、orative purposes shall be wholly of cotton. Coloured yarns introduced for identification or decorative purposes shall comply with the requirements of Appendix A. 4 Manufacture of fabrics 4.1 Construction. The yarn used shall be spun uniformly. The fabric shall be woven uniformly and be substantially

18、 free from defects. The selvedges shall be either: a) of the conventional shuttle loom type, woven firm and straight, or b) of a type at least as strong as the body of the fabric, with no raw edges or fringes exposed, except where such raw edges or fringes will eventually be included in the hem of a

19、 made-up article. The fabric requirements shall be as detailed in Table 1. 4.2 Processing. Fabrics required in bleached form shall be produced from yarns bleached before weaving except where otherwise stated in Table 1. 4.3 Finish. Fabrics shall be supplied well cropped. Except where shown inTable 1

20、, fabrics shall contain a maximum of3% of total filling (added matter), when determined in accordance with BS4032 using correction factors of1.04 for unbleached linen fabrics and1.03 for bleached linen fabrics. 4.4 Fluidity. The fluidity of all bleached linen fabrics shall be not more than12 units w

21、hen determined in accordance with BS3090. For linen union fabrics the fluidity of the linen component shall be not more than12units. 5 Making-up of finished articles 5.1 Sheets and sheeting 5.1.1 Fabrics. Sheets and sheeting shall be manufactured from fabrics1.1 and1.2 detailed in Table 1. 5.1.2 Hem

22、. All sheets shall have hems of at least2cm. 5.1.3 Dimensions. The dimensions of the finished articles shall be as given in Table1 of BS5815:1979. The following letters shall be added to the references given in BS5815:1979 to indicate the fibre content of the articles. For linen fabrics(1.1) add “/L

23、”. For linen union fabrics(1.2) add “/LU”. 5.2 Pillowslips 5.2.1 Fabric. Pillowslips shall be manufactured from fabric1.2 detailed in Table 1. 5.2.2 Pattern. Pillowslips shall be manufactured to the “housewife” pattern with a flap of approximately20cm, and shall have the selvedges at the end of the

24、flap and the opening. 5.2.3 Sewing. In making-up the pillowslips shall be double sewn and overlocked with40s, three-cord sewing thread. 5.2.4 Dimensions. The dimensions of the finished articles shall be as given in Table1 of BS5815:1979. The following letters shall be added to the reference given in

25、 BS5815:1979 to indicate the fibre content of the articles. For linen union fabrics(1.2) add “/LU”. 5.3 Roller towels, hand towels, tea towels and kitchen cloths 5.3.1 Fabric. Roller towels, hand towels, tea towels and kitchen cloths shall be manufactured from the fabrics detailed in Table 1 as reco

26、mmended for the particular end-use given in Table 2. 5.3.2 Dimensions and recommended uses. The dimensions of the finished articles shall be as given in Table 2. 5.3.3 Hem. All articles shall have hems of at least0.6cm. 5.4 Medicine cloths, table cloths, oven cloths and operating theatre gown cloths

27、 5.4.1 Fabric. Medicine cloths, table cloths, oven cloths and operating theatre gown cloths shall be manufactured from the fabrics detailed inTable 1 as recommended for the particular end-use given in Table 3. 5.4.2 Additional requirements. Where appropriate, cloths shall also comply with the additi

28、onal requirements given in Table 3.BS1781:1981 2 BSI 09-1999 6 Marking All articles made in compliance with the requirements of this standard shall be supplied with the following information. a) The number of this British Standard, i.e.BS1781 1) . b) The description of the article, including the ref

29、erence if appropriate. c) The size of the article. d) The percentage fibre composition. NOTEAttention is drawn to Statutory Instrument1973 No.2124. 30、tion to a product is a claim by the manufacturer that the product has been manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the standard.
