11、eatres and wards 2 Publications referred to 8BS1823:1973 ii BSI 10-1999 Foreword The first edition of BS1823 was prepared at the request of the Stainless Steel Fabricators Association, in order to rationalize the numbers of types and sizes of hospital hollow-ware and to ensure that dimensions were s
12、uch as to avoid problems in stacking caused by adjacent articles jamming together. In this revision the opportunity has been taken for dimensional and volumetric requirements to be specified in metric units, although in view of established use of the equipment, both in the UK and overseas, it was fo
13、und unnecessary for any basic changes to be made to the sizes previously specified. The quality of finish is of particular importance from the standpoint of ease of cleaning and corrosion resistance. As there are no recognized standards in this country for the degree of finish of stainless steel, ot
14、her than those generally practised within the trade, arrangements have been made to lodge sealed reference samples of each type of utensil with the British Standards Institution, in order that manufacturers may check the finish, of their products with that of the reference samples for compliance wit
15、h this British Standard. BS5452 specifies requirements for hospital hollow-ware made of plastics materials. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British S

The standard specifies instrument trays of five nominal sizes,
18、 200mm 150mm, 250mm 200mm, 300mm 250mm, 350mm 250mm and350mm 300mm; kidney dishes of four nominal sizes,150mm, 200mm, 250mm and 300mm; wash bowls of three nominal sizes,300mm 100mm,350mm 115mm and400mm 125mm; lotion bowls of six nominal sizes,100mm 45mm,125mm 55mm, 150mm 65mm,200mm 90mm, 250mm 110mm
19、 and300mm 135mm; gallipots of seven nominal sizes,40mm(30ml),50mm(60ml),60mm (90ml),65mm(120ml),70mm(170ml),80mm (250ml) and90mm(320ml). NOTEThe title of the British Standard referred to in this standard is given on the page 8. 2 Dimensions Dimensions of stainless steel hollow-ware for use in hospit
20、al operating-theatres and wards shall be as given in Table 1. 3 Material The vessels shall be fabricated from stainless steel sheet or strip complying with the requirements of BS1449-2, Grades304S15 or304S16. The steel used for all wash bowls and other large vessels shall be of0.90mm nominal thickne
21、ss, but all sizes of gallipots, instrument trays less than300mm 250mm nominal size, kidney dishes less than250mm and lotion bowls less than200mm 90mm nominal size may be of0.70mm nominal thickness. 4 Rectangular instrument trays 4.1 Size designation. The size of rectangular instrument trays shall be
22、 designated by the nominal internal length and nominal internal width as shown in Table 1 and Figure 1. 4.2 Size range. The range of sizes of rectangular instrument trays shall be as given in Table 1. 4.3 Design. The design and dimensions of rectangular instrument trays shall be in accordance with F
23、igure 1 and Table 1. 5 Kidney dishes 5.1 Size designation. The size of kidney dishes shall be designated by the nominal length between rim centres as shown in Table 1 and Figure 2. 5.2 Size range. The range of sizes of kidney dishes shall be as given in Table 1. 5.3 Design. The design and dimensions
24、 of kidney dishes shall be in accordance with Figure 2 and Table 1. 6 Wash bowls 6.1 Size designation. The size of wash bowls shall be designated by the nominal overall diameter as shown in Table 1 and Figure 3. 6.2 Size range. The range of sizes of wash bowls shall be as given in Table 1. 6.3 Desig
25、n. The design and dimensions of wash bowls shall be in accordance with Figure 3 and Table 1. 7 Lotion bowls 7.1 Size designation. The size of lotion bowls shall be designated by the nominal internal diameter as shown in Table 1 and Figure 4. 7.2 Size range. The range of sizes of lotion bowls shall b
26、e as given in Table 1. 7.3 Design. The design and dimensions of lotion bowls shall be in accordance with Figure 4 and Table 1. 8 Gallipots 8.1 Size designation. The size of gallipots shall be designated by the nominal internal diameter or nominal capacity as shown in Table 1 and Figure 5. 8.2 Size r
27、ange. The range of sizes of gallipots shall be as given in Table 1. 8.3 Design. The design, dimensions and capacities of gallipots shall be in accordance with Figure 5 and Table 1. 9 Covers Covers to vessels are optional. If required for instrument trays, kidney dishes, lotion bowls and gallipots, t
28、he covers shall be of such size and shape that they fit the relevant vessels. The cover shall have a rim to hold the cover in place. The sizes of the covers shall be such that they are made to the maximum tolerances of the vessels they are to fit, and shall be designed to remain in place when the re
29、levant vessel is tilted in any direction to an angle of60 from the horizontal. The covers shall be fitted with either a simple loop or recessed handle.
