6、efinition 10101 actuator A power-operated device on aircraft to effect movement over a limited linear or angular range. 10102 air-compressor intake throttle A valve controlling automatically the intake of an air compressor to maintain a required condition on the delivery side at varying altitudes. 1
7、0103 emergency air Compressed air for energizing a hydraulic or pneumatic circuit in the event of failure of the normal power supply. 10104 emergency cartridge A cartridge, the products of combustion of which energize a hydraulic or pneumatic circuit in the event of failure of the normal power suppl
8、y or operate an emergency mechanism such as an ejection seat. 10105 ground test couplings Couplings which enable the hydraulic or pneumatic system to be tested by an externally applied source of power. 10106 hydraulic circuit A branch of an aircraft hydraulic system serving a particular purpose, e.g

28、 fresh air changes and/or humidity of the air in an aircraft on the ground. 10302 cabin altitude selector An instrument by means of which any of a range of cabin altitudes can be selected. 10303 cabin supercharger A compressor to maintain the pressure in the cabin above the ambient air pressure and
29、provide pressure for air conditioning systems. 10304 cold air unit An air cycle refrigerator consisting of a turbine and/or a compressor and/or a fan mounted in separate ducts but on a common drive shaft. The turbine cools the air supplied to it by extracting energy which is absorbed by the fan and/
30、or compressor. 10305 bootstrap cold air unit COMPRESSOR-TURBINE COLD AIR UNIT A cold air unit in which the charge air passes through both the compressor and, via an intercooler, the turbine. 10306 brake turbine cold air unit A cold air unit in which the compressor or fan acts as a brake on the turbi

34、craft altitudes and controls the discharge valve to maintain a predetermined cabin/aircraft altitude relationship or a selected cabin altitude. 10311 temperature controller A device which compares signals received from temperature sensors and selectors and operates a temperature control valve accord
35、ingly. 10312 temperature selector A device by which the cabin air temperature to be maintained during flight is selected. valves 10313 constant flow valve An automatic valve which renders the flow of air to the pressurizing system independent of the pressure variations of the source of supply above
36、the minimum working pressure. 10314 discharge valve A valve fitted to control the outflow air from the cabin. It acts as a variable restrictor by means of which cabin pressure is controlled. 10315 flow control valve An automatic valve which regulates the flow of air to predetermined characteristics.
37、 10316 inward relief valve An automatic valve fitted to admit air to the cabin when the external pressure exceeds the internal by more than a defined amount. 10317 reducing valve An automatic valve which provides a supply of fluid at a regulated low pressure from a high pressure system. 10318 safety
