8、e Textiles and Clothing Standards Committee, and forms a revision ofBS1892-2.6:1972 which is withdrawn. The principal changes introduced by this revision are that requirements for weight training equipment, now incorporated inBS1892-2.9, have been deleted and the opportunity has been taken to bring
9、the remaining requirements up-to-date. This Section of Part2together with Part1covers boxing rings (platform type and floor fixing type) suitable primarily for the defence services. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards

NOTEThe t
12、itles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 General requirements Boxing rings shall comply with the requirements ofBS1892-1 except in so far as they are modified by this Section. 3 Platform type boxing rings 3.1 General Boxing rings of the platform t
13、ype shall consist of a portable frame, of which the four corner posts shall be an integral part. The frame shall support a square wooden platform. The size of the platform shall be one of the sizes specified in3.2, with a margin outside the fighting area of not less than460mm. The boxing area of the
14、 ring shall be defined by three ropes, each of which shall be long spliced to form a continuous length to form a square with sides of not less than3 660mm, 4270 mm or4880mm in length. Each corner post shall be complete with rope fixing attachments, and a tensioning tool shall be provided. NOTE 1The
15、height of the surface of the boxing ring above the floor is not specified. It is recommended that the purchaser advises the supplier or manufacturer of his requirements in this regard at the time of purchase. Four large or12small corner pads for covering the rope attachments shall be provided. One c
16、orner post shall be finished red, one blue and two left neutral at a diagonal position. Each ring shall be complete with a canvas cover together with a flexible underlay and the necessary lacing cords and attachments for securing these to the frame to ensure tautness. NOTE 2It is recommended that th
17、e distance between eyelets and hooks on the canvas cover is such that the lacing cord draws the canvas taut without rucks or slackness folds. The framework sections shall be marked for correct assembly. NOTE 3The ring may be provided with swivel seats for attachment to two of the corner posts and wi
18、th a holder for two tumblers attached to the outer side of the same corner posts. 3.2 Construction 3.2.1 Frame. The frame shall be of welded construction of members having a section of36mm 38mm 5mm angle. The frames shall be capable of being dismantled into panels for portability (seeFigure 1). Fram
19、es shall consist of one of the following. a) A3660mm boxing ring with a platform4570mm square: eight cross frames, each approximately2285mm in length at1525mm centres, and four braced end frames. Timber joists of76mm 50mm section spaced at356mm centres. b) A4270mm boxing ring with a platform5180mm s
20、quare: eight cross frames, each approximately2590mm in length at1725mm centres, and four braced end frames. Timber joists of100mm 50mm section spaced at356mm centres. c) A4880mm boxing ring with a platform6095mm square:10cross frames, each approximately3050mm in length at1525mm centres, and four bra
21、ced end frames. Timber joists of76mm 50mm section spaced at356mm centres. 3.2.2 Platform. The platform floor shall be of20mm nominal tongued and grooved joined softwood boarding assembled in no less than eight sections. The boards shall be nailed to the joists by64mm 3.25mm galvanized ring nails. Th
22、e heads of the nails shall be sunk slightly below the surface of the boards. The four corner posts shall be of steel tube of not less than100mm nominal internal diameter complying with medium mass ofBS1387. The maximum height of the posts shall be1525 mm plus the height of the platform above the flo
23、or level, allowing three ropes at400mm,800mm and 1295mm centres above the floor of the platform. The tops of the posts shall be rounded off by means of a half round cap of size not exceeding the diameter of the post. The vertical sides of the frame shall be attached to the posts but shall be capable
24、 of being dismantled from them. The panels adjacent to the posts shall have at least one diagonal strutting member, and diagonal ties shall be provided to ensure squareness is maintained during assembly (seeFigure 1). To facilitate easy assembly the platform boards and steel frames shall be treated
25、with matching colours at the junction points. 26、umen or oxide paint undercoat and finishing coat, which shall be applied after the steel has been rendered clean, dry and free from loose scale, rust, grease, oil, etc. The finished colour shall comply withBS4800. 3.2.3 Ring ropes. The ring ropes shall be joined into an endless length by means of a
27、long splice, and shall be made from 4-strand (shroud laid) Z lay best quality hemp (white). The ropes shall have either a diameter of30mm and a minimum breaking strength of60kN or a diameter of50mm and a minimum breaking strength of60kN. NOTE 1The strands should be well formed and free from grooves
28、and sunken yarns. Each strand should contain an equal number of yarns. Ropes should be well laid and free from defect. NOTE 2It is recommended that in order to minimize the burning effect on the skin resulting from sharp contact with the ring ropes, the latter are covered when in use by wrapping the
29、m with a soft material in the direction of the lay of the rope. A100mm wide strip of cotton flannelette provides the best protection. The wrapping should be supplied by the manufacturer of the ring on request. 3.2.4 Canvas. The canvas shall be of flax and completely cover the total area of the platf
30、orm, overlapping the edge of the platform by at least75mm on all sides. Grommet eyelets and spur toothed washers complying withBS3102, reference numbers 2A/2 and 2B/2 respectively, shall be spaced at305mm intervals on all sides. The hems shall be50mm in width, all raw edges shall be turned in. The e
31、yelets shall be in the centre of the hem. Flat seams shall be used and the two rows of sewing shall be not more than3mm from the edge of the canvas. The corners of the canvas shall be cut out to allow for the position of the posts. The material shall consist of flax canvas complying with fabric 3408
32、/10 in Table2ofBS3408:1977. The rope for securing the floor canvas shall be22mm circumference sisal rope 3-strand (hawser laid) Z lay complying withBS2052. 3.2.5 Underlay. The underlay shall consist of hessian backed closed cell expanded natural rubber. The closed cell expanded natural rubber shall
33、comply with the following when tested in accordance with BS4443-1: NOTE 1The International Amateur Boxing Association allows felt, rubber or other approved materials of the same elasticity value for the underlay not less than12mm or more than19mm thick. NOTE 2It is recommended that the underlay shou
34、ld be the same size as the platform and consist of an antislip material. 3.2.6 Corner pads. Four sets of corner pads either in one piece or as separate pads for each rope shackle shall be provided. The outer cover shall be made of one of the following materials: a) canvas complying with fabricBS3408
35、-5 in Table2ofBS3408:1977; b) cotton canvas of minimum mass per unit area400g/m 2 ; c) flax canvas of minimum mass per unit area425g/m 2 ; d) PVC-coated polyamide complying with fabric3408/14 in Table5ofBS3408:1977. The sewing thread shall be of the following material: 1) for cotton material: cotton
36、 thread having a breaking strength of25N. 2) for flax canvas, or PVC-coated polyamide: a flax thread having a breaking strength of45N. Stuffing shall be of moulded sponge rubber or plastics. NOTEThe colour of the outer cover is not specified. It is recommended that the purchaser advises the supplier
37、 or manufacturer of his requirements in this regard at the time of purchase. Pads shall be not less than150mm wide and not less than75mm thick. The length shall be at least sufficient to cover the fixing accessories either of the three ropes or of each separately. Cap corner pads shall be fixed to p
38、osts in accordance with one of the following methods: i) leather or webbing straps; ii) cords, with eyelets to fix over hooks on the post; iii) a combination of i) and ii). 3.2.7 Quick release device for ropes. If a quick release device incorporating a safety catch(es) for the lowering of the ring r
39、opes is provided, the following shall apply. a) The device shall not open or release the ropes except when the mechanism is intentionally released. b) The device shall release the ropes without the need for their being slackened previously and shall be capable of operation by hand without using loos
40、e keys or levers. It shall open without violent movement and shall be situated as near to the rope itself as practicable in order to avoid heavy equipment resting on and injuring the canvas after release. c) It is permissible to have one device for each rope or one for two or more ropes, but one dev
41、ice shall completely release one rope. NOTEDevices may be fitted at more than one corner of the same rope for convenience or as part of the method of securing the ropes to the post. apparent density 0.25 kg/m 3 ; tensile strength 1.0 kPa.BS1892-2.6:1986 4 BSI 12-1999 d) The material of which the dev
42、ice is constructed shall be corrosion resistant when tested in accordance withBS1706. It shall be of sufficient strength to withstand any mechanism stresses which the post to which it is attached is designed to withstand. 3.2.8 Steps. Two sets of self-standing steps shall be provided (seeFigure 2),
43、manufactured of softwood or hardwood timber complying with group B ofBS1892-1. Treads shall be not less than250mm in width with a rise not exceeding200mm. Treads shall have nosings. The top platform shall be not less than900mm square. The treads and platform shall be capable of sustaining a concentr
44、ated load of not less than250kg over an area of100mm square. 4 Floor fixing type boxing rings 4.1 General Boxing rings for use at floor level shall consist of four corner posts, each complete with floor attachments and fittings for attachment of the ropes, and four corner pads. The material, dimensi
45、ons and method of fixing of corner pads shall be as for platform type boxing rings (see3.2.6). Each ring shall be provided with a canvas and an underlay. The canvas shall be provided with tautening cords and the necessary floor attachments for the cords, together with any necessary erection componen
46、ts required to be permanently fixed in the floor. 4.2 Construction 4.2.1 Size. The size of floor fixing type boxing rings shall be not less than3660mm 3660mm and not more than4880mm 4880mm within the rope area, with a450mm external margin which is also covered by the canvas and the underfelt. 4.2.2
47、Corner posts. Corner posts shall be of wood or metal with low carbon steel stays and hooks to take the tightening gear of the ropes and shall be not less than1220mm and not more than1525mm in height. NOTE 1A suitable low carbon steel is 055M15 complying with BS970-1. NOTE 2Owing to the diversity of
48、flooring materials and types of floor, it has not been considered possible to standardize the method of floor fixing for the posts. Any permanent socket or other floor fixing component should, when not in use, leave the floor level and free from obstruction. Any groove, slot or other cavity should b
49、e such as to minimize the risk of tripping and the accumulation of dirt. The post shall be of softwood or hardwood complying with group B ofBS1892-1,100mm 100mm nominal cross section with sharp edges removed, or of steel tube of80mm nominal diameter complying with medium mass ofBS1387. 4.2.3 Ring ropes. The quality and size of ring ropes shall be as for platform type boxing rings (see3.2.3). 4.2.4 Floor covering. The floor canvas, underlay and fixing accessories shall be as for the platform type boxing rings (see3.2.4 and3.2.5), except that there shall
