7、ich is withdrawn. This British Standard supersedes the parts of BS 192:1982 that deal with Whitworth and BS wrench sizes. The tolerances across flats of openings have been amended from the previous edition to align more closely with, but not identically to, the tolerances given in ISO (International
8、 Organization for Standardization) standards. Apart from nominal thread sizes, all dimensions are in millimetres. Materials for manufacture of wrenches are not specified, but torque requirements are specified to ensure a minimum level of performance. Summary of pages This document comprises a front

Any protective finish shall conform to the appropriate British Standard. 5 Marking The wrench shall be plainly and indelibly marked with the following: a) the size of each jaw opening, in two formats: 1) the first giving the nominal diameter of a
15、 bolt to be fitted by the wrench, with a head size as specified in BS 916 or BS 1083, followed by the letters “BS” (e.g. 3/8BS); and 2) the second giving the nominal diameter of a bolt to be fitted by the wrench, with a head size conforming to Whitworth large hexagon sizes, followed by the letter “W
16、” (e.g. 5/16W); b) the name or trade mark of the manufacturer or responsible supplier. 6 Form and dimensions The form and dimensions of the wrench shall conform to Figure 1 and Table 1. 7 Resistance to torque When tested in accordance with the method described in annex A, wrenches shall withstand th

The test mandrel shall have a minimum hardness of 55 HRC. A.2 Procedure Fully engage the wrench on the test mandrel as shown in Figure A.1. Apply
25、a gradually increasing force until the minimum test torque is reached (see Table 1). NOTE 1 The torque is calculated as the product of the magnitude of the load and the distance between the point of application of the load and the centre of the test mandrel. NOTE 2 A device in which the mandrel can

The wrench should always be held firmly, and the stance of the user adjusted to prev

Open ended wrenches should only be used for their designed purpose. They should not be used as a striking tool. The length should never be increased by using tu
30、bes, extensions or locking wrenches together to free frozen fasteners. Wrenches should not be exposed to excessive heat, as this may affect the temper and result in premature failure. The shape of the wrench should not be modified (e.g. by grinding wheel). Wrenches should be inspected regularly for
31、signs of damage or wear, and replaced as required. Extreme care should be taken not to confuse plastic comfort grips with grips with electrical insulating properties, which should be marked.blankBSI 389 Chiswick High Road London W4 4AL | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
