11、973 ii BSI 11-1999 Foreword This British Standard, authorized by the Iron and Steel Industry Standards Committee, specifies the requirements for steel wire used in the manufacture of spokes. The standard is a metrication of the1954 edition and includes details of the metric nominal wire diameters wh
12、ich are normally available and which are compatible with the imperial dimensions at present given in BS811 “Cycle threads”. The standard will be reviewed when BS811 is metricated. 15、is British Standard specifies bare and galvanized wire for spokes of1.80mm to6.30mm diameter inclusive. NOTEThe titles of the British Standards referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Chemical composition 2.1 The wire shall be produced from steel within the following limi
16、ts on cast analysis. 2.2 Any check analysis on the finished wire shall show no carbon values less than0.32%. 3 Manufacture 3.1 Steel making. The wire shall be cold drawn from steel having the composition specified in Clause2 and made by any process except that the air, and mixed air oxygen, bottom b
17、lown basic convertor processes shall not be used. 3.2 Condition. The wire shall be supplied in the patented and drawn condition. In addition, it shall be zinc coated when specified by the purchaser in his order. The definition of patenting is given in BS6562-1. 3.3 Freedom from defects. The wire sha
18、ll be free from pipe and other harmful defects. 3.4 Coiling. The wire shall be so processed during manufacture that it lies flat in coils of even diameter and free from corkscrew set. 3.5 Mass and dimensions of coils. The mass and dimensions of coils shall be specified in the order. 4 Selection of t
19、est pieces Test pieces of sufficient length for the prescribed tests shall be cut from each end of each coil of wire as supplied by the manufacturer. 5 Tensile strength The tensile strength obtained from the test pieces, selected as specified in Clause4, and tested in accordance with the method desc
20、ribed in BS4545, shall be not less than1050N/mm 2and not more than1130N/mm 2 , except that, if so specified by the purchaser, larger wires for swaging shall have a tensile strength of not less than970N/mm 2and not more than1050N/mm 2 . In routine testing with fixed gear type tensile testing machines
21、, the strain rate shall be pre-set to give a rate of separation of the grips not greater than40% of the test length per minute. 6 Wire diameters and tolerances 6.1 The nominal wire diameters normally available are listed below. 6.2 The tolerance on the nominal diameter of the finished wire shall be+
22、0.05mm0.00mm. 7 Bend tests 7.1 Wire of1.80mm to3.00mm diameter inclusive. Each test piece, selected as specified in Clause4, shall be capable of being bent backwards and forwards not less than four times through an angle of180 over a radius equal to its own diameter without showing signs of fracture
23、. The first bend through90 shall not be counted. The rate of bending shall be approximately one180 bend per1.5seconds. A suitable machine for performing the above test is shown inAppendix A. 7.2 Wire of over3.00mm up to and including6.30mm diameter. Each test piece, selected as specified in Clause4,
24、 shall be capable of being bent through120 over a radius of0.4mm ( 0.02mm) without showing signs of fracture. A suitable machine for performing the above test is shown inAppendix B. The method of testing the coating shall be as specified in
26、 BS443. The zinc coating shall be smooth, firm and adherent and, when examined without magnification, shall show no signs of cracking, flaking or peeling when the test piece is closely wrapped eight times round a mandrel of a diameter equal to the diameter of the wire. 9 Retests In the event of any
27、test piece failing to comply with the requirements of any of the specified tests, two additional test pieces shall be cut from each end of the coil from which the original test piece was taken. The manufacturer may discard part of the coil prior to removing the piece for retest. If, when tested in a
