9、y of the Office Machines and Equipment Industry Standards Committee as one of a series in a specialized category needed to meet the requirements of drawing office equipment as distinct from general office equipment. In this revision the designation of sizes follows continental practice of referring

10、to the hypotenuse of 45 and adjustable set squares and to the long rectangular side of 60 set squares. A new, metric range of preferred sizes is specified. 13、dicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS2459:1974 BSI 09-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for set squares of the fixed angle(45 and60 ) and adjustable types, made from transparent plastics material, for drawing office use. 2 References The titles of the

14、British Standards referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Materials 3.1 Set squares shall be made from transparent plastics material complying with the following requirements. 3.1.1 The change in any linear dimension shall not exceed1% for a variation in ambient temperatu

15、re from0Cto38 C and in relative humidity from0to100%. 3.1.2 The material shall possess toughness, hardness and flexibility sufficient to permit constant handling in use without a degree of deterioration of the surface, loss of transparency, distortion or damage to the working edge such as to render

16、it unserviceable. 3.2 The arc or quadrant of adjustable set squares shall be made from a plastics material meeting the requirements of3.1, or a corrosion resistant metal or a metal rendered corrosion resistant in accordance with BS1224, BS1706 or BS3597. 3.3 The hinge, clamping screw and nut shall b

17、e made from a corrosion resistant metal or a metal rendered corrosion resistant in accordance with BS1224, BS1706, BS3382 or BS3597. 4 General requirements 4.1 All set squares shall have working edges that are straight within a tolerance zone0.25mm wide per200mm of length. The edges may be relieved

18、by bevelling or other means to leave a vertical edge thickness of not less than1mm. 4.2 Set squares of the fixed angle type shall have a centre hole or holes or open centres. 4.3 In set squares of the adjustable type, the following requirements shall apply. 4.3.1 The adjustable arm shall have a work

19、ing movement of not less than 45 and when fully closed its working edge shall be at 45 to the base. 4.3.2 The graduated arc shall be rigidly secured to, or form an integral part of, the adjustable arm, and shall be graduated radially in degrees and half degrees with respect to the base. It shall be

20、figured at0 , 10 , 20 , 30 and40 in a clockwise direction, and at45 , 50 , 60 , 70 , 80 and90 in an anti-clockwise direction. All divisions shall be defined by fine clear lines of uniform depth and thickness, normal to the edge, with a difference in length between the degree and half-degree lines. L

21、ines shall extend to the edge of the are unless a hairline index acting over the division lines is used. All markings shall be filled with a material of strongly contrasting colour. Typical markings are shown inFigure 1. 4.3.3 Special care should be taken to avoid confusion between figures of simila

22、r form. Reference should be made to BS3693-1. 4.3.4 The set squares shall be provided with a datum and a suitable clamping screw and nut. 5 Dimensions and tolerances 5.1 Preferred dimensions are set out inTable 1. The sizes refer to the length of the hypotenuse of45 set squares and to the long recta

23、ngular side of60 set squares. 5.2 The maximum allowable tolerance on any fixed angle shall be 2. 5.3 The maximum allowable tolerance on any angle indicated by the graduations of the arc of an adjustable type shall be 4. 5.4 Set squares shall be flat within a tolerance zone1.0mm wide per300mm of leng

BSI Certification Trade Mark The Kitemark The Kitemark is the registered certification trade mark of the British Standards Institution. A licence to use the Kitemark on or in rela

29、tion to a product will be granted to any manufacturer or producer who demonstrates that he can and will be able consistently to make that product to a specified British Standard. His capability of doing so is initially assessed by inspection of his production process, quality control organization an

30、d test facilities, and by independent testing of a sample of the product against all the criteria of the relevant standard. The licensee is required to accept, and to operate in accordance with, a BSI scheme of supervision and control which identifies the tests to be carried out during manufacture a

31、nd on the completed product, and specifies the frequency of such testing. BSI carries out unannounced inspection visits to the manufacturers works and audit testing of the product, and may withdraw the licence for any failure of the manufacturer to comply with the relevant standard or with the requi

32、rements of the scheme of supervision and control. The presence of the Kitemark on or in relation to a product is an assurance that the goods have been produced under a system of supervision, control and testing , operated during manufacture and including periodical inspection of the manufacturers wo

33、rks in accordance with the certification mark scheme of BSI.
