、O). This edition supersedes BS2485:1973, which is withdrawn. It has been prepared to take account of the revision of ISO299 “Tee slots for machine tools” and the dimensions of the tee slots given are technically equivalent to those in ISO299. This standard varies from ISO299 in the following respect
、s. Inch dimensions. In accordance with the UK policy of metrication, the inch dimensions given in ISO have not been included in this British Standard. Tee slot pitches. ISO299 states that if values of pitch greater or less than those given inTable 1 are essential, they should be chosen from the valu
、es of the R10 series of preferred numbers and that if intermediate values are required they should be chosen from the values of the R20 series. In the interests of rationalization, this standard does not permit these choices. However, in order to facilitate interchangeability of equipment throughout
、 a given manufacturers complete range, this standard provides for the choice of any pitch given in the standard (see clause5) rather than restricting given pitches to given sizes of tee slots as in ISO299. Tee bolts. Full dimensions and material requirements are given whereas ISO299 gives only the d
、imensions of the bolt head. InTable 3, dimension E has been retained from the1973 edition of this standard as it is more appropriate. This standard gives dimensions for tee nuts and tenons. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British St
、andards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pagesi andii, pages1 to6, an inside back cover and a back cover. This st
、andard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS2485:1987 BSI 02-2000 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies dimensions for tee slots for use in machine tools and their auxiliary equip
、ment, and dimensions for tee bolts, tee nuts and tenons to be used in the tee slots. It also specifies a range of pitches between tee slots in machine beds and materials for tee bolts, tee nuts and tenons. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back
、cover. 2 Designation of tee slots The tee slot and the corresponding bolt shall be designated by the nominal size of the bolt thread, e.g. M10. 3 Dimensions of tee slots, tee bolts, tee nuts and tenons The dimensions of tee slots, tee bolts, tee nuts and tenons shall be as given inTable 1 (see alsoT
、able 2),Table 3 andTable 4 respectively. 4 Dimensions of tee slots used as tenon slots The dimensions of tee slots used as tenon slots shall be as given inTable 1 and the tolerances on the width of the throats of the slots given in column4 shall apply rather than those given in column3. 5 Positionin
、g of tee slots in rectangular tables 5.1 One slot shall be designated as a reference slot. NOTEThe centre line of the reference slot should lie along the centre line of the machine table. If there is an even number of slots, the reference slot shall be clearly marked on the machine table itself. 5.2
、 The pitches of the slots, i.e. the dimensions between centres, shall be as given inTable 1 and the tolerance on pitches given inTable 2 shall apply. In addition to the corresponding pitches for a tee slot given inTable 1, pitches that are multiples of the corresponding pitches may be used provided
、that these multiples are among the pitches listed inTable 1. For example, for an M10 tee slot, pitches of50mm,100mm (50 2), 200mm (50 4) etc. are allowed, but a pitch of150mm (50 3) is not allowed since it does not appear in column14 ofTable 1. 6 Tee bolts and tee nuts Tee bolts shall be cold forged
、 and shall have square heads. NOTEA suitable material is steel 945M38 as specified in BS970-1 or one having at least equivalent mechanical properties. Tee nuts shall be manufactured from steel 945M38 as specified in BS970-1 or one having at least equivalent mechanical properties. The dimensions of t
、ee bolts and tee nuts shall be as given inTable 3. The load bearing faces of the heads of tee bolts and tee nuts shall be nominally square with the axis of the shank, and the head shall be nominally central with the shank. The tolerances on the squareness of the heads that are used commercially by t
、he manufacturers of the steel bars shall apply. 7 Tenons Tenons shall be manufactured from steel045M10 as specified in BS970-1 or one having at least equivalent mechanical properties. The dimensions of tenons shall be as given in Table 4. The faces of the locating surfaces of tenons shall be square
、and/or parallel with the vertical axis of the tenon and shall be central with the shank where applicable. NOTEIf desired unstepped tenons may be used; in which case the feature provided by dimension W is omitted, but P is unchanged. 8 Marking The following information shall be permanently and legibl
、y marked on tee nuts and tenons: a) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e. BS2485:1987 1) ; b) the designation (see clause2). NOTESimilar marking of tee bolts is subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser. 1) Marking BS2485:1987 on or in relation to a product represe
、nts a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is therefore solely the responsibility of the person making the claim. Such a declaration is not to be confused with thir
