It describes a method for determining the

10、 resistance of polyethylene pipes and fittings to immersion in a liquid stress cracking agent at elevated temperature and may be useful for indicating potential failure of the component arising from unsuitable design or production in respect of processing. In drafting this standard, consideration ha

11、s been given to the work of Technical Committee 138 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) but this has not as yet resulted in the preparation of a corresponding method of test. It has been published under Part 11 of BS 2782 to enable cross-reference by revisions of British Stan

12、dard specifications for thermoplastics pipes and fittings for non-pressure applications, specifically BS 4660 and BS 5255, to avoid duplication in associated appendices. Attention is drawn to a related method of test for assembled fittings, given inAppendix C of BS5255:1988, which uses a modified re

13、agent solution under reflux for a shorter period and has not as yet been adopted for the purposes of any other British Standard. Part 11 of BS 2782 comprises a series of methods of test normally applied to the whole range of thermoplastics pipes, fittings and valves. WARNING. This British Standard d

14、oes not necessarily detail all the precautions necessary to comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Attention should be paid to any appropriate precautions and the method should be operated only by trained personnel. A British Standard does not purport to include

17、escribes a method for determining the resistance of polyethylene pipes and fittings to immersion in a wet stress cracking agent at elevated temperature. It is applicable to pipes and fittings of any size for non-pressure applications where the pipes and fittings are subjected to contact with stress

18、cracking inducing agents and associated requirements are specified in the relevant product standard. It is a potentially destructive test intended chiefly for use as a type test to assess, for example, the material, manufacturing process and/or product design. NOTEThe titles of the publications refe

19、rred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Principle Test pieces in the form of complete fittings or sections of pipe are subjected without applied stress to immersion in a liquid stress cracking agent at an elevated temperature and inspected for consequent visible damage, usual

20、ly in the form of cracking and/or delamination. 3 Materials 3.1 Stress cracking agent, comprising a 2% (m/m) aqueous solution of either a sodium alkyl aryl sulphonate (e.g. the sodium salt of dodecyl benzene sulphonic acid) or, and in case of dispute, an alkyl aryl polyethylene glycol 1) . 4 Apparat

21、us 4.1 Immersion bath, comprising a vessel with a forced circulation and controls capable of maintaining a specified temperature throughout a liquid stress cracking agent (see 3.1) contained in sufficient quantity to submerge one or more test pieces (see clause5). 5 Test piece The test piece shall c

22、omprise either a complete section of pipe having a minimum length of 150 mm with ends each cut clean and square to the longitudinal axis, or a complete fitting, as applicable. 6 Procedure Unless otherwise specified by the applicable product standard, maintain the liquid agent in the immersion zone a

23、t 80 20 C. Ensure that the bath liquid is at the specified temperature. Submerge the test piece in the liquid. Remove the test piece briefly for inspection at will until signs of cracking or delamination are visible without magnification or until a cumulative immersion period of not less than 168 h

24、has elapsed. Then dissect the test piece as necessary, inspect all points of injection and/or weld lines and record any signs of cracking, delamination or other criteria specified by the relevant product standard, as applicable. NOTEThe number of test pieces submerged simultaneously or added to the

25、bath is unrestricted, subject to the requirements for temperature control. 7 Test report The test report shall include the following: a) a reference to this method of test, i.e.BS 2782:Method 1109A:1989, or the relevant product standard; b) full identification of the test piece, including the method

26、 of manufacture; c) identification of the stress cracking agent used; d) the liquid temperature used if not as given inclause 6; e) the result of the test, complete with a description of any cracking and/or delamination and/or other relevant observations, or confirmation that the test piece was visu
