6、rocedure 1.1 General This British Standard shall be used in conjunction with the relevant sections of the latest issue of BS S 100 as follows: 1.2 Sulphur printing or deep etching tests One sample shall be taken from each ingot for sulphur printing or deep etching tests. 1.3 Ultrasonic examination T
7、he material shall be ultrasonically tested in accordance with BS S 100, Annex B. 1.4 Decarburization If required, examination for and the amount of decarburization shall be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser. 1.5 Cleanness The material shall be assessed for micro-cleanness in accordan
8、ce with BS S 100, to the acceptance criteria stated below: 2 Manufacture The material shall be manufactured by an electric process and shall be vacuum degassed. 3 Chemical composition The steel shall contain: Bars for machining delivered in other than the finally heat treated condition sections 1 an

11、e dressing The material shall be overall dressed. 5 Condition 5.1 The material shall be supplied in the appropriate condition stated below. 5.2 Parts shall be supplied finally heat treated. 6 Heat treatment 6.1 Spheroidizing treatment The spheroidizing treatment shall be as follows: a) heat at a tem
12、perature of 820 10 C for not less than 6 h; b) cool to 700 C at a rate not greater than 10 C per hour; c) furnace cool to 500 C; d) air cool or furnace cool to room temperature. 6.2 Softening treatment The softening treatment shall consist of heating uniformly at a temperature between 700 C and 750
13、C for not less than 1 h, followed by cooling in air or furnace. 6.3 Final heat treatment 6.3.1 Except as provided in 6.3.2, the final heat treatment shall consist of the following: a) Hardening. Heat uniformly at a temperature between 820 C and 860 C, followed by cooling in oil. b) Tempering. Heat a
14、t a temperature of 165 5 C for 1 h, followed by cooling in air. 6.3.2 Alternatively to 6.3.1, the final heat treatment of parts shall be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser. NOTE If an alternative heat treatment is used for parts, it may be necessary to agree alternative mechanical pro
15、perties. 7 Mechanical properties 7.1 Hardening test One test sample, 25 mm in diameter and not less than 100 mm long, from each cast shall be heat treated in accordance with 6.3.1. A longitudinal flat surface suitable for hardness testing shall be prepared on the test sample, not less than 5 % of th
16、e diameter or width being removed during preparation. The hardness of the test sample shall be not less than 770 HV or 62 HRC. 7.2 Hardness test 7.2.1 The hardness of material heat treated in accordance with 6.1 shall be not greater than 207 HB unless the material has been cold worked, in which case
17、 it shall be not greater than 248 HB. 7.2.2 The hardness of parts and test samples heat treated in accordance with 6.3.1 shall be not less than 770 HV or 62 HRC.
