11、for aerospace purposes.Wire conforming to this specification is suitable for high duty dynamically stressed springs. For other applications where hardened and tempered springs are required, wire conforming to the latest edition of British Standard S 203 ought to be used.2 Inspection and testing proc

12、edure2.1 GeneralThis British Standard shall be used in conjunction with BS S 100.2.2 Sulfur printing and deep etching testsSamples shall be selected in accordance with BS S 100.3 Normative referencesThe following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. 14、chanical springs Part 2: Oil hardened and tempered spring steel wire.4 Process of manufactureThe material shall be manufactured by an electric process unless agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser in accordance with BS S 100.5 Chemical compositionThe steel shall contain the chemical level

15、s shown in Table 1.Table 1 Chemical composition6 Surface dressing6.1 The material from which the rods are rolled shall be overall dressed in accordance with the requirements of BS S 100.6.2 At a convenient stage of manufacture, the wire or the rod from which it is drawn shall be ground or machined a

17、 stated in Table 2 unless otherwise agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser, in which case the condition in which the material is to be supplied shall be stated on the order.Table 2 Condition of supply8 Freedom from defects8.1 Surface defects Visual examinationThe rod and wire shall be vis

18、ually examined in accordance with BS S 100.8.2 Surface defects Deep etching testsSamples of rod and wire, selected and prepared for examination in accordance with BS S 100, shall be immersed in a 50 % solution of concentrated hydrochloric acid in water at a temperature of not less than 85 C. The tim

19、e of immersion shall be approximately two seconds for every 0.025 mm of diameter but shall be not less than two minutes nor more than ten minutes.9 Final heat treatmentThe final heat treatment of the springs, the tensile test pieces for the rod, wire and springs and the reverse bend test pieces shal

20、l be:1) harden in oil from a temperature between 850 C and 880 C;2) temper at a temperature not less than 400 C to give the mechanical properties specified in Clause 10.10 Mechanical properties10.1 Tensile testsThe tensile properties of test pieces representing rod, wire and springs, selected, prepa

21、red and tested in accordance with BS S 100 and heat treated in accordance with Clause 9 shall conform to the values inTable 3. Table 3 Tensile test strength10.2 Reverse bend test (wire only 2.2 mm diameter or thickness and greater)The test pieces, selected in accordance with BS S 100, shall be heat

22、treated in accordance with Clause 9and shall then be tested in accordance with BS S 100. 26、 accordance withBS S 100.11 Examination for decarburization11.1 Microscopical examination of rod, wire and springs shall be made in accordance with BS S 100. 11.2 Unless otherwise agreed between the rod supplier and the wire manufacturer, the maximum amount of identifiable decarburization of rods th

27、at have not been ground shall not exceed one per cent of the diameter.11.3 The wire shall be completely free from decarburization.11.4 The section taken from the tensile test sample representing the springs shall be completely free from decarburization.12 Dimensional tolerancesDimensional tolerances
