NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 General 2.1 Objects of the standard This standard presents a simplified range of types and sizes of pliers, pincers and nippers which should be s
11、uitable for most everyday applications. A minimum standard of quality of the tools is ensured so that they will have a useful life. 2.2 Quality considerations The duties required of a pair of pliers, pincers or nippers are often severe. There are, for example, many fields in which it is necessary fo
12、r them to be able to cut hard steel wire, soft copper wire and cotton with equal facility. Many experiments and developments are currently taking place on the material for, and heat-treatment of, these tools and so the quality of the tools is ensured by stringent performance tests. These test requir
13、ements have been designed to simulate the function of the tool in normal average use. 2.3 Insulated pliers and nippers used for live circuit working The general requirements for insulated pliers, used for live circuit working, are given in IEC900. Reference should also be made to the Electricity Sup
14、ply Industry (ESI) standard26-3, “Hand held insulated tools for live working up to1000 volts”. 1) NOTEIt is now common practice to supply pliers fitted with plastics sleeving. It should not be assumed that these pliers provide any measure of protection for live circuit working. 3 List of Parts This
