It is the fifth Part of a complete revision of BS3224.

8、 This Part of BS3224 supersedes Section B2:1970, Section D3:1962, Section D4:1963, Section D5:1964, Section D8:1962, Section F2:1971 and SectionF3:1973 of BS3224, which are withdrawn. Other Parts of this revision are: Part 1: Specification for lighting units for use in precision approach path indica

9、tor systems; Part 4: Specification for elevated lighting units; Part 6: Specification for obstacle lighting units. Requirements for the light distributions are not included in this edition. Attention is drawn particularly to the recommendations and requirements for installation and operation, and fo

13、5:1988 BSI 08-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of BS 3224 specifies the essential mechanical and electrical features excluding lamps and describes photometric tests for inset-type units providing lighting guidance for approach, runway, taxiway or other paved areas at land aerodromes. Light distributions are

14、 not specified within this Part of BS3224 (see the publications referred to in the foreword). NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definition For the purposes of this Part of BS3224 the following definition applies. type test a test f

15、or the purpose of checking compliance of the design of a given product with the requirements of the relevant specification. Type test samples are selected in agreement with the manufacturer or responsible vendor 3 General test requirements 3.1 The tests described in this standard shall be type tests

16、 (see clause2). 3.2 Except where otherwise specified, units shall be tested in an ambient temperature of between10 C and30 C. The units shall be tested as installed in normal use. The lamp type recommended by the manufacturer shall be used for the test. Tests shall be made on a single sample unit or

17、, where a range of similar units is involved, on a single unit of each rated wattage in the range or on a representative selection from the range as agreed with the manufacturer. This selection shall include the unit, together with any attachments, which represents the most unfavourable combination

18、from a testing point of view. Each sample unit shall pass all the relevant tests. Tests shall be carried out in the order given in Table 1. Table 1 Sequence of tests 4 Conditions of use The unit shall be designed for use on supply voltages not greater than50Vr.m.s. to earth. NOTE 1The unit should be

19、 suitable for use in ambient temperatures from 20 C to +50 C and relative humidities of up to90%. NOTE 2Due allowance should be made for the effects of solar heating, jet efflux, blown dust and sand, blasted grit, standing water, ice, snow, fuels, oils, lubricants and de-icing agents. NOTE 3The unit

20、 should be designed so that if it fails mechanically, when struck by an aircraft, the minimum possible damage to the aircraft is caused. 5 Maximum profile dimensions Units shall be classified in accordance withTable 2 according to the height of that part of the unit which is above pavement level whe

21、n installed. Table 2 Profile dimensions No part of the unit when installed shall be at a height above the pavement level greater than that given inTable 2 for the appropriate group. 6 Optical components and lampholders Lampholders shall be of such design that the lamp cannot be inserted incorrectly

22、in the unit and that once inserted the lamp is retained firmly in position. The making of connections between lamp and holder shall not require the use of a tool except when necessary for the prevention of finger-marking of the lamp envelope. NOTE 1All optical components should be easily replaceable

23、 and should be designed or marked so as to inhibit incorrect assembly. NOTE 2Optical components should be so designed that in the event of their breakage when sited on an airfield, the fragments cause no hazard to aircraft. 7 Fastening of covers Covers that are required to be opened or removed for m

24、aintenance purposes,e.g. lamp changing, shall be secured by fastenings that may be operated without the use of tools made specifically for the purpose. NOTEGaskets should be positively located. 26、ents.BS3224-5:1988 2 BSI 08-1999 8 Mounting 8.1 Mounting arrangements The unit shall be suitable for mounting in one of the seating rings shown inFigure 1, either directly or with the use of an adaptor ring. NOTE 1In actual use units may be mounted directly into a surface without the use of seating

27、rings. NOTE 2Means should be provided for freeing and lifting the unit from its seating. NOTE 3The mass of a unit should be kept to a minimum. Any parts requiring lifting during maintenance should be capable of being lifted by one person without the aid of heavy-lifting tackle. 8.2 Strength 8.2.1 Re

28、quirement. The unit shall be capable of withstanding a uniform vertical load of6 900kN/m 2of surface and a shear load of200kN/m 2of surface in any direction in the horizontal plane to the exposed top surface and supporting flange of the fitting. When tested in accordance withTable 1, clause3 and8.2.

29、2, the fitting shall exhibit no failure or distortion detrimental to its performance. 8.2.2 Hydraulic load test. Support the unit in a suitable seating which represents the appropriate seating ring given inFigure 1 and cover the whole of the top surface with a thin rubber fabric sheet. Subject the t

30、op surface to a uniform hydraulic test pressure of6 900kN/m 2for a period of1min with the unit in an ambient temperature of20 2 C. Examine the unit for failure or distortion. NOTEAny extraneous light channel or similar voids may be filled with plaster of Paris or a similar substance to prevent any r

31、upture of the fabric sheet due to over-stressing during the test. 9 Electrical connections 9.1 Provision shall be made to accommodate the entry of an insulated sheathed cable with an overall diameter of between8mm and13mm. 9.2 Means shall be provided for the clamping of the cable so as to prevent an

32、y strain and twisting of the ends of the conductors connected to the terminations. 10 Resistance to heat 10.1 Requirements When the unit is tested in accordance withTable 1, clause3, 10.2 and10.3, the external parts of insulating material and parts of insulating material retaining live parts in posi

33、tion shall exhibit no deterioration or permanent deformation and there shall be no permanent deformation of other parts. The lamp temperatures during the test shall not exceed the designed temperature limits for the lamp type. 10.2 Test Operate the unit using the recommended lamps at rated wattage i

34、n an ambient temperature of50 2 C for a period of24h and examine the unit for deformation of any part. Measure the lamp temperature after a period of at least2h from the start of the test. 10.3 Surface temperature test Operate the unit after the test in10.2 until the temperature has stabilized and l

35、ocate a thermocouple in the hottest area of the top surface and attach it to that point. Place a piece of rubber sheet12mm thick having the composition given inTable 3 over the whole of the top surface and in direct contact with the hottest area for10min. The temperature at the top surface shall not

36、 exceed160 C during this period. Examine the unit for deformation of any part. Table 3 Composition of rubber sheet representing an aircraft tyre 11 Resistance to ingress of dust and moisture The unit shall provide a minimum index of protection of IP67 when tested in accordance with Table 1, clause3

37、and BS4533-101. After testing the unit shall show no accumulation of dust or water on the internal optical surfaces or electrical connections and the outer cover shall show no signs of cracking or other failure. 12 Insulation 12.1 Requirement When tested in accordance withTable 1, clause3 and12.2 th

38、e insulation resistance of the unit shall be not less than0.1M7 at a voltage of500Vd.c. NOTECompliance will require the use of non-hygroscopic insulation materials capable of withstanding the operating conditions given in clause4. 40、site poles of the lamp circuit and between each pole and the body of the unit at a voltage of500Vd.c. Where a lamp filament failure cut-out device is connected, make the measurement between both poles connected together and the body of the unit. 13 Photometric performance 13.1 Requirements 13.1.1 Wh

41、en tested in accordance withTable 1, clause3 and13.2, the unit shall comply with13.1.2. NOTEAttention is drawn to the publications referred to in the foreword. 13.1.2 The unit shall be designed to emit white light and shall also be adaptable to emit blue, green, red or yellow light. The chromaticity

42、 of the light shall be of signal class A complying with BS1376. NOTEThe colour media should not show any deformation or deterioration when the unit is operated at an ambient temperature of50 2 C for a minimum of2000h at the maximum light output. 13.2 Tests Test the unit for compliance with13.1 when

43、installed in a seating ring as shown inFigure 1, using the recommended lamps and correlate the results to the manufacturers published data for the lamp type. 14 Beam alignment When installed in a seating ring as shown in Figure 1, the beam direction shall be within 0.5 of the required setting. 15 Ex

44、ternal finish The visible external surface of the body or cover of the unit shall have a finish applied in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. NOTE 1The finish should be of golden yellow, colour No.356 complying with BS381C. NOTE 2All parts of the unit should have a surface finish suitab

45、le to resist corrosion due to the effects of the conditions listed in clause4. 16 Marking The unit shall be durably and legibly marked with the following: a) the manufacturers name or identification mark; b) the type or reference number; c) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e. BS3224-5

46、:1988 1) . 1) Marking BS3224-5:1988 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is therefore solely the responsibility of the p

47、erson making the claim. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third party certification of conformity, which may also be desirable.
