The first edition of this
12、British Standard which is now withdrawn was published in1960 and covered requirements for aprons made from two chloroprene-coated fabrics, one cotton and one viscose fabric being specified. Fabrics of other fibre types having different coating materials are now available and this standard takes acco
13、unt of these developments which are also reflected in the change in the title of the standard. Performance requirements for such coated fabrics are specified in BS3546-1 and BS3546-2. BS 3546-3, which is relevant to this standard, is in course of preparation and when published the fabrics specified
14、in it will be included by amendment in the materials requirements of this standard. Details of certain acceptable types of drip trough are given inAppendix A. Consideration was given to the specification of other performance requirements (e.g. flammability) but it was decided that for the end use pa
15、rticularly concerned these were unnecessary. However the attention of users of the standard is drawn to the fact that, if unguarded flames are likely to be close to wearers, advice should be sought from the manufacturer on the flammability of the material used. A British Standard does not purport to
16、 include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Attention is drawn to the need, if appropriate, for the fibre content to be giv

19、otective aprons used for wet work. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Materials 2.1 The aprons shall be made from one of the fabrics specified in BS3546-1 or BS3546-2 with the following exceptions: a) PVC coated fabric shall have a
20、total mass per unit area of not less than140g/m 2 ; b) silicone coated fabrics shall not be used. 2.2 Eyelets and press stud fasteners shall be of non ferrous metal, nickel plated or of PVC. 3 Dimensions 3.1 Aprons shall be not less than900mm long and not less than750mm wide across the skirt. 3.2 Th
21、e bib top shall be not less than250mm wide extending to the full width of the apron over a depth of not less than200mm and not more than300mm. NOTE 1Minimum dimensions of aprons and style details are given inFigure 1. NOTE 2Aprons are sometimes fitted with drip troughs. Details of certain types are
22、given inAppendix A. 3.3 Where straps are supplied with the apron they shall have the following minimum lengths measured from the edge of the apron: waist straps500mm; shoulder straps750mm; neck loop (strap)500mm. 4 Making-up 4.1 There shall be no seams or joins in the main body of the apron. 4.2 For
23、 the purpose of attaching straps or eyelets the corners of the bib and waist shall be reinforced with triangular pieces of self material stitched or welded except where weldable eyelets are used or where the fabric mass per unit area is greater than270g/m 2 . 4.3 Sewing shall be not less than four a
24、nd not more than five stitches per10mm. The sewing threads shall be appropriate to the fabric used. 4.4 If provided, eyelets for tying-tapes shall be set in at the upper corners of the bib and skirt and shall be positioned clear of any stitching. 4.5 If fitted, straps (either permanently fixed or wi
25、th a quick release fastening) shall be at least10mm in finished width and finished to prevent fraying. 5 Labelling Aprons complying with this British Standard shall be labelled with the following information: a) the name, trade mark or other means of identification of the manufacturer; b) the number
26、 of this British Standard i.e. BS3314 1) ; c) if appropriate the British Standard reference for the fabric used from BS3546; d) cleaning or washing instructions; NOTEIt is preferred that appropriate care labelling symbols in accordance with BS2747 are used. e) the length and width of the apron. 1) M
27、arking BS3314 on or in relation to a product is a claim by the manufacturer that the product has been manufactured to the requirements of the standard.
