The remaining five alloys in this revision are related to alloys in ISO4381. Bearing alloys in other materials are cove

Some of the substances described in this standard (such as lead and cadmium) may be injurious to health unless adequate safety precautions are taken. The standard refers only to technical requirements and tests and in no way absolves either the

This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS3332:1987 BSI 07-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the requirements for chemical composition, testing and identification for eight white metal bearing alloys in ingot form, four tin-rich and four lead
13、-rich, used for casting plain bearings. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the following definitions apply. 2.1 ingot a cast, unwrought product in a form suitable only for remelt
14、ing 2.2 batch a series of ingots cast from a single uniform melt 2.3 consignment a quantity of white metal bearing alloy ingots, consisting of one or more batches, of the same alloy designation, delivered at the same time 3 General requirements The white metal bearing alloy ingots shall comply with
15、clauses4 and8. Should any sample selected and prepared in accordance with clause5 and tested in accordance with clause6 fail to comply with clause4, then the provision for retests shall be as specified in clause7. NOTEIn the event of any dispute concerning compliance of the ingots with the requireme
16、nts of this standard, it is normal commercial practice for the supplier and the purchaser to have tests undertaken by a mutually acceptable independent testing authority, and to accept the results of such tests as final. 4 Chemical composition and alloy designation The chemical composition and alloy
17、 designation of the ingots shall be as given inTable 1. The results of chemical analysis shall be subject to the application of the rounding rules in accordance with BS1957. 5 Selection and preparation of test samples Sample ingots for testing to verify compliance of the batch with clause4 shall be
18、selected and prepared for analysis in accordance with BS3338-14. 6 Test methods The samples selected and prepared in accordance with clause5 shall be analysed by the use of recognized chemical or instrumental analytical procedures. In cases of dispute, the relevant methods for the analysis of white
19、metal bearing alloys described in BS3338-8 to BS3338-10, BS3338-13, and BS3338-15 to BS3338-20 shall be used. 7 Retests If a sample selected and prepared in accordance with clause5 fails when tested to comply with the requirements for chemical composition given in clause4, a retest shall be permitte
20、d. Two further samples from the same batch shall be selected and prepared in accordance with clause5, and tested. One of these further samples shall be prepared from the same ingots as those selected and used for preparing the original sample, unless those ingots have been withdrawn from the batch.
21、Should both the further samples comply with clause4, then the batch of ingots represented shall be deemed to comply with this standard. Should either of the samples fail, then the batch of ingots represented shall be deemed not to comply with this standard. 8 Identification and marking Each batch sh
22、all be identified by a unique batch number. Ingots within a consignment shall be segregated into batches. Each batch within the consignment shall be tallied by suitable means, with its batch number, the alloy designation and the manufacturers mark. This identification shall be maintained in such a m
23、anner as to enable the ingots corresponding to a particular batch number to be correlated with the relevant test records and/or certificate(s). Ingots of nominal mass 5kg or over shall be individually marked with the alloy designation and the manufacturers mark. 9 Certificate of compliance The suppl
