BS 3252, Ingot tin. BS 3332, White metal bearing alloy ingots. This method for the sampling of white metal bearing

11、 alloy ingots is the fourteenth of a series of methods which will form a complete British Standard under the collective title “Methods for the sampling and analysis of tin and tin alloys”, eachmethod being published as a separate part. The preparation of this series of methods has been authorized by

12、 the Non-ferrous Metals Industry Standards Committee as part of a general programme for the standardization of methods for the sampling and analysis of non-ferrous metals. The complete British Standard methods will be found suitable for the grades of metals covered by BS3252, “Ingot tin”, BS219, “Soft solders”, and BS3332, “White metal bearing alloy ingots”. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users

19、all be taken atrandom for examination. b) Preparation of surfaces. All surfaces which may be included in the sample obtained by sawing shall be cleaned by scratch-brushing, and finally by soft brushing to remove the loose surface contaminants. c) Sampling of the selected ingots. In the case of recta

20、ngular shaped ingots they shall be placed side by side and a line drawn diagonally from the top of the first ingot to the bottom of the last. A saw cut shall be made with a hand saw with fine teeth(18 to the inch), in the side of each ingot at a point opposite that at which the diagonal cuts the cen

21、tre line of each ingot. Sawing shall be continued halfway through each ingot. No lubricants shall be used. In the case of ingots in the form of a number of linked circular sections, sampling shall be carried out by sawing along a diameter as far as the centre of one of the sections from each ingot.

22、The circular section chosen should be such that each position within the type of ingot is represented approximately an equal number of times in the final sample. All sawings shall be collected and mixed thoroughly, any iron contamination being removed by means of a powerful magnet. If any oil is pre

23、sent the sawings shall be cleaned in petroleum ether and dried. If the sawings are of uniform small size, no further treatment is necessary other than thorough mixing and sampling by coning and quartering. If powder accompanies the sawings, the sample should be sieved through a sieve which experienc

24、e shows will separate the fines differing markedly in composition from the remainder of the sample, and weights of the coarse and fine materials in proportion to their weights in the sample should be taken for analysis.
