Part1: Specification for loom-state fabrics; Part2: Specification for desized fabrics; Part3: Specification for finished fabrics for use with polyester resin systems. In this revision the maximum allowable residual size content has been further reduced by o

This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated i

It also gives packaging and marking require

12、ments for the fabrics. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on inside back cover. 2 Construction 2.1 General The desized fabric shall be uniformly woven. It shall be free from streaks, stains, oil and grease spots, creases and wrinkles. It shall not be brittle o

13、r fused. 2.2 Residual size content The residual size content, after desizing, shall be not more than0.1% by mass, when determined by the method described in Appendix A. 2.3 Breaking strength The breaking strength of the desized fabric in the warp and weft directions, when determined by the method de

14、scribed in AppendixC of BS3396-1:1982, shall be not less than35% of the value specified in that standard for the same fabric in the loom-state condition. Alternatively if a) the desized fabric does not comply with its breaking strength requirement; or b) the desized condition of the fabric is an int

15、ermediate one preparatory to finishing by the same supplier in accordance with BS3396-3, then the strength shall be deemed to be adequate if the flexural strength requirements of Table1 of BS3396:1986-3 are satisfied. NOTEThe object of this alternative procedure is not to test the suitability of the

16、 fabric to produce satisfactory polyester resin laminates but to demonstrate that the fabric has not been permanently damaged in the desizing process. 3 Selection of test samples A sample shall be selected from each quantity of each fabric desized in the same desizing operation. The piece number and

17、 desizing batch number for each sample shall be recorded. 4 Packaging The fabric shall be rolled evenly onto tubes of sufficient length and strength, so that they will not collapse or telescope during transit, storage and handling. Both ends of the roll shall be protected to prevent damage to the ed

18、ges of the cloth. Each roll shall be individually wrapped and rolls of fabric shall be packed in parcels or boxes in such a way as to protect them from damage. 5 Marking and identification Each piece or roll of fabric shall be marked in the form of a code with the following information in the follow

Each of the compon

22、987 2 BSI 04-1999 Appendix A Determination of residual size content A.1 Principle The determination of the residual size content is carried out by determining the loss in mass due to heating and igniting the residual size. NOTEAccurate values can only be obtained if the test is carried out after the

23、 material has been dried. The method uses differential weighing to determine a very small change in weight. Accordingly, it is important to prevent absorption of moisture by the specimen before each weighing. A.2 Apparatus A.2.1 Weighing bottle, approximate diameter50mm. A.2.2 Desiccator, charged wi

24、th phosphoruspentoxide. A.2.3 Combustion apparatus having the essential features A to E shown in Figure 1. A.2.4 Balance, accurate to0.0001g. A.2.5 Drying oven. A.2.6 Nickel-silver boat, approximate dimensions90mm 35mm 20mm. A.3 Procedure From a rectangular specimen of the desized fabric of mass app

25、roximately4g, fray out five threads from each side so as to leave a fringe. Roll the prepared specimen loosely and tie with a thread of glass yarn taken from the specimen. Determine to an accuracy of0.0001g the mass of the dried specimen after it has been put into the previously weighed weighing bot

26、tle(A.2.1), heated in the drying oven(A.2.5) for30min at105 2 C and cooled in the desiccator(A.2.2). Place the dried specimen in the previously dried and weighed nickel-silver boat(A.2.6), transfer to the combustion apparatus(A.2.3), and heat at a temperature of575 25 C. After heating for10min, draw

27、 through the tube containing the nickel-silver boat and specimen a current of air, dried by passage over calcium chloride and then over phosphorus pentoxide, whilst heating for a further5min. Quickly transfer the nickel-silver boat containing the specimen to the drying oven, which already holds the

28、previously weighed bottle. After the nickel-silver boat has cooled down, transfer this, together with its contents, to the weighing bottle prior to removing from the drying oven. Cool to room temperature in the desiccator and reweigh. Express the loss in mass of the specimen as a percentage of the o

29、riginal dry mass of the specimen. A.4 Test report Round off the percentage loss in mass of the specimen to the first place of decimals and report it as the residual size content. NOTEFor example, percentage losses in mass of0.050% to0.149% are reported as0.1%. Figure 1 Combustion apparatusBS3396-2:1
