、oreword This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Plastics Standards Committee and is a revision of BS3816:1964, which is withdrawn. It covers epoxy resin casting systems used as electrical insulation in equipment for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric
、al power. The property requirements for the material are based on a cured epoxy resin casting system incorporating an inorganic filler. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.
、 Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pagesi andii, pages1 and2, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may
、have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS3816:1989 BSI 08-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for epoxy resin casting systems used as electrical insulation in equipment for the generation, transmission and dis
、tribution of electrical power. It does not apply to materials used in instrument transformers, gas-insulated equipment or insulators which are directly exposed to outdoor environments. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions
、For the purposes of this British Standard the following definitions apply. 2.1 batch an identifiable quantity of basic ingredient, e.g.resin, hardener, filler, designated by the supplier and being substantially uniform in quality 2.2 blend a total quantity of casting material in which the same batch
、es of ingredients are used throughout in the same proportions with the same processing conditions 2.3 casting the cured product from the reaction between the components of the epoxy resin casting system 3 Composition The casting system shall comprise an uncured epoxy resin incorporating an inorganic
、 filler, additives and hardeners. 4 Properties Castings prepared as described in Appendix A shall comply with the requirements given in Table 1 when tested by the methods specified therein. 5 Marking The following information shall be marked on, if practicable, or given in relation to each casting:
、a) the name or trade mark of the manufacturer; b) the manufacturers code reference for the casting; c) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e.BS3816:1989 1) .
