10、r the direction of the Kitchen and Household Equipment Standards Committee. This revision gives detailed dimensions for holes in buttons and for shanks to enable the buttons to be attached to a garment. Dimensions are now in metric units, and imperial measurements based on the English “line”(0.025 i

11、n) are no longer regarded as standard, but for reference purposes conversion tables are given in Appendix A. This revision specifies requirements which have been used as a basis for design by manufacturers of button sewing machines. Tolerances have been added for the diameter of holes and the spacin

12、g between holes in buttons. Attention is drawn to the provisions in BS4162 “Methods of test for buttons”. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Sta

13、ndard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. It is intended to cover all shapes of buttons. Recommendations for the sizes of boxes for th

15、e bulk supply of buttons are given in Appendix B. 2 Reference The title of the publication referred to in this standard is given on the inside back cover. 3 Size and spacing of holes The sewing holes shall have diameters and spacing of adjacent centres in accordance with the dimensions given in Tabl

16、e 1 and Table 2 and Figure 1. 4 Holes in buttons with shanks The dimensions of shanks and holes for fixing the buttons shall be in accordance with Table 3 and Figure 2. 5 Preferred diameters of buttons The range of preferred diameters of buttons is as follows: NOTEFor non-circular buttons the button
