5、C1 is based on DEF-1053 Method No.16, “Settingtime”. 1 Scope 1.1 This Part describes a procedure for determining whether the edge of a film of paint or allied material remains “alive” after a specified period of drying, when applied over the appropriate surface. NOTEThe term “wet edge time” is also

6、known in the paint industry as “lapping time”, “live edge time” and “setting time”. 2 Supplementary information 2.1 The method of test described below requires to be completed, for any particular application, by the following supplementary information. This information is to be derived from the Brit

7、ish Standard or other specification for the material under test or, where appropriate, is to be the subject of agreement between purchaser and vendor. 1) Thickness and/or weight of coating and whether it is to be a single film or a coating system. 2) Wet edge time specified for the material under te

8、st. 3 Preparation of coated test panel 3.1 Unless otherwise stated use a panel of burnished steel, approximately600mm 300mm. 3.2 Prepare the panel in accordance with the method described in Part A3, “Preparation of panels prior to painting” coat it where necessary with the appropriate primer and/or

9、undercoat and allow each coat to dry for24 hours, unless otherwise specified. 4 Procedure 4.1 Carry out the test under substantially draught-free conditions, at a temperature of23 2 C and a relative humidity of50 5%. 4.2 Divide the panel into two equal areas by means of a line parallel to the shorte

10、r side. Place the panel in a position such that the longer side is vertical. 4.3 Coat the upper half of the panel with the material under test, using a25 mm brush. Lay off in a direction parallel to the shorter side and finish laying off along the edge flanking the dividing line taking care to avoid

11、 leaving an abnormally thick or thin edge. 4.4 Invert the panel. 4.5 Approximately2 minutes prior to the specified wet edge time, commence to coat the remaining area so that the two edges are worked together starting at the specified wet edge time, cross-brushing across the join as necessary. 4.6 Fi

12、nally lay off the portion of the panel just coated in a direction parallel to the dividing line, starting at the area disturbed by the join, and allow the panel to dry in situ. 4.7 Examine the join for imperfections, such as lack of film continuity, absence of levelling, variation in colour. 5 Repor

13、t of test 5.1 The test report shall contain at least the following information: 1) Identification of material under test. 2) The British Standard, product specification or other document setting out the supplementary information required for the test (see Clause2 above). 3) Any deviation, by agreeme
