、pe This International Standard applies to hand-held mains electric motor-operated spray guns with integral containers and motors, which can be either reciprocating motors or rotary motors, intended for household and similar use, both indoors and outdoors, for the spraying of non-flammable liquids. T

、his standard defines the principal performance characteristics of spray guns which are of interest to the user, and describes the standard methods for measuring these characteristics. Safety requirements for hand-held electric spray guns are covered by IEC745-2-7. This standard does not deal with sa

、fety requirements nor does it prescribe limits of acceptance for performance. 1.2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this International Standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated

All normative documents are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. 17、al Standard, the following definitions apply. 2.1 Terms used to designate the hand-held electric tool 2.1.1 spray gun a hand-held electric tool in which the container and motor are incorporated, with a storage container having a maximum pressure of30kPa, intended for the spraying of liquid, pasty or

、 powdery substances mainly used to coat material NOTEIn this standard, “hand-held electric motor-operated spray guns” are referred to as “spray guns”. 2.2 Terms used to designate the characteristics of spray guns 2.2.1 rated input the input at rated voltage assigned to the spray gun by the manufactu

、to IEC160. The relative humidity shall be between45% and75%. 3.2.2 Voltage and frequency The measurement shall be carried out at rated voltage with a tolerance of 1% and, if applicable, at rated frequency. Spray guns designed for d.c. only shall be tested ond.c. Spray guns designed for a.c. and d.c.

、 shall be tested on a.c. Spray guns which are not marked with rated frequency shall be tested either on50Hz or on60Hz, whichever is common in the country of use. For spray guns with a rated voltage range, the measurements shall be carried out at the mean value of the voltage range if the difference

、between the limits does not exceed10% of the mean value of the voltage range. If the difference between the limits exceeds10% of the mean value, the measurement shall be carried out both at the upper and lower limits of the range. NOTEIf the rated voltage or the mean of the voltage range differs fro

、m the nominal voltage system of the country where the electric spray gun is used, measurements carried out at rated voltage or the mean of the voltage range may be misleading for the consumer. In this case additional measurements may be necessary. If the test voltage differs from the rated voltage,

、this shall be reported. 3.2.3 Number of samples In order to prevent the determination of the performance of a spray gun from a sample having variations, the following measurements shall first be carried out on two samples: input under no load; input under load. NOTE 1If the values measured are withi

、n5% of the mean value, one of the samples can be used for the remaining measurements. NOTE 2An additional sample may be used for the reliability test. Section 4. Methods of measurement 4.1 Input under load The input shall be measured when spraying water at maximum setting of the spray gun. NOTEFor t

、he purpose of this standard, the load retained for the test is different from the normal load defined in 2.2.23 of IEC745-2-7. 4.2 Maximum delivery capacity The maximum delivery capacity shall be measured when spraying water. NOTEThe discharge capacity is expressed in dm 3 /min (litres/min). 4.3 Vis

、cosity performance The viscosity performance indicated by the manufacturer shall be verified by the following tests: The spray gun shall operate correctly when used with a paint having a maximum viscosity as indicated by the manufacturer. Compliance is checked by a practical test, the spray gun bein

、g operated in accordance with the instruction sheet. The device delivered with the spray gun by the manufacturer to check the viscosity of the paint shall be graduated in ISO units and shall be accurate. Compliance is checked by a practical test. The viscosity values determined with the device shall

、 not differ from the value determined by the ISO methods by more than10%. NOTEThe viscosity of the liquids to be sprayed is expressed in Pa s. 4.4 Volume of the container Both the total volume and the useful volume of the container shall be measured as follows: The spray gun fitted with the maximum

、diameter nozzle is filled with water up to the maximum level indicated, this quantity of water represents the total volume of the container. The spray gun is then operated at maximum discharge rate until no more water is sprayed. During the operation, the appliance may be canted in accordance with t

、he manufacturers instructions. The container is then refilled up to the maximum level indicated. The added quantity of water is measured and corresponds to the useful volume.BS3999-17:1993 BSI 10-1999 3 4.5 Maximum pressure The maximum pressure, and the pressure at the nozzle and in the container du

、ring continuous operation shall be measured. NOTEThe maximum pressure during continuous operation is expressed in MPa. 4.6 Main dimensions The following main dimensions shall be determined in millimetres (seeFigure 1): total length (l) of spray gun; height (h) of spray gun; diameter (d) of container

、 (or total width of the spray gun); distance (l 1 ) between the nozzle and the front of the safety shroud, if any. 4.7 Mass The mass of the spray gun, including the empty container, the standard nozzle and the safety shroud but excluding flexible cable and plug, shall be measured. 4.8 Flexible cord

、length The distance between the point of entry into the spray gun and the face of the electric plug, or the end of the cord sheath when no plug is fitted, is measured and expressed in metres to the nearest0,05m. 4.9 Stability The stability of the spray gun is checked in empty and filled conditions.

、The spray gun is placed in any normal position of use on a horizontal plane which is then inclined. The smallest angle of inclination at which the spray gun becomes unstable is noted. 4.10 Reliability test 4.10.1 The reliability of the spray gun is characterized by the length of time before the firs

、t failure occurs, the spray gun being tested at rated voltage and frequency, and at maximum delivery capacity for the paint sprayed. The spray guns designed for spraying varnish only are operated with synthetic varnish diluted according to the recommendation of the manufacturer. Other spray guns are

、 operated with paint of airless quality diluted according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Each cycle comprises a period of operation long enough to empty the filled container and a rest period of5min with the spray gun switched off. 4.10.2 The maintenance of the spray gun is made according

、to the recommendation of the manufacturer. Visible and audible signs of wear or failure are recorded. 4.10.3 Any electrical or mechanical failure except for replacement of brushes is considered as being proof of end of life. NOTEEvery8h the test is stopped to allow the spray gun to cool down to ambi

、ent temperature and to be cleaned according to the instructions of the manufacturer. It is recommended that the test be stopped after48h of operation. 4.11 Noise level Under consideration.
