It constitutes a rev

、ision of BS2F121:1989 which is withdrawn, and differs from the previous edition in that meta-aramid fibre has been introduced as an alternative for tape manufacture, and the materials for metallic fittings have been revised. The requirements for shuttleless weaving have also been clarified NOTEThe l

、atest revision of an Aerospace Series standard is indicated by a prefix number. This standard specifies pentachlorophenyl laurate (PCPL) as the only approved rot-proofing treatment for aerospace fabrics. Alternative treatments are under development, and this standard will be updated to delete PCPL a

、 or e) meta-aramid fibre. NOTEThe type of tape required should be stated by the purchaser in the contract or order (see Annex A). 6.1.4 A bead of textile material shall be present on the tape edge to facilitate the attachment of the teeth. 6.1.5 The bead shall be either: a) woven integrally with the

、 tape; or b) formed by a cord on each face of the tape securely attached by lock stitching. 6.1.6 The width of the finished tape shall be: a) for medium fasteners 15 mm b) for large fasteners 25mm 6.2 Rot-proofing If cotton material is used see6.1.3 c), the tape complete with bead or, alternatively,

、 the constituent tape, bead cords and sewing thread shall be rot-proofed with pentachlorophenyl laurate (PCPL) from aqueous emulsion in accordance with the normal process given in Part1 of BS2087:1992 except that the PCPL content of the cotton portion shall be from1.7% to3.5%. The PCPL content shall

、 be determined on the cotton portion only. 6.3 Dyeing 6.3.1 Where dyeing is required, the colour of the tapes shall be specified by reference to a British Standard, e.g.BS381C, or otherwise by pattern. NOTEThe requirement for dyeing and the colour should be stated by the purchaser in the contract or

、 order (see Annex A). 6.3.2 Sulfur dyes and copper treatments shall not be used. 6.4 Metallic fittings The metallic fittings of the fasteners shall be manufactured from materials indicated by the letter A in Table 3. 7 Finished fasteners 7.1 General Finished fasteners shall conform to the requiremen

、ts specified in7.2 to7.13. 7.2 Chain 7.2.1 The elements comprising the chain shall be free from sharp edges or burrs liable to damage clothing or injure the wearer. 7.2.2 When a fastener (other than an interchangeable open-end fastener), after being fully opened and closed, is laid on a horizontal s

、mooth surface without any constraint, other than the application of such minimum stroking by the palm of the hand as is necessary to make it lie flat, the maximum deviation from a straight line joining the two ends of the meshed chain shall not exceed2% of the nominal length of the fastener. The chain shall recover naturally from this position so that the normal operation of the slider is unimpaired. 7.3 Sliders 7.3.1 The puller shall be free to move throu

NOTEThe hole size should be stated by the purchaser in the contract or order (see Annex A). 7.3.2 When a self-locking slider is used on an open-end faste

、ner the locking prong shall not hamper entry of the male pin when the fastener is being assembled. 7.4 Bottom stops The bottom stops of a closed-end fastener shall be attached securely and shall enclose the beads of both tapes. It shall be so fitted in relation to the last engaging members as to pre

、vent disengagement of the chain. 7.5 Top stops Each top stop shall be securely attached to enclose the beaded edge of the tape. The top stops (excluding the single stop on quick-release fasteners) shall be of a size to permit complete entry into the slider when the fastener is fully closed. They sha

、d tape when the fastener is laid on a horizontal surface with the open-end fittings towards the observer and the puller uppermost. 7.6.2 The pin forming the male portion of the open-end fittings shall not contain a flexing joint. It shall be securely attached to enclose the beaded edge of the opposi

、te hand tape when the fastener is viewed as described in7.6.1. 7.6.3 All open-end fittings shall be so designed that, when assembling the fastener, it shall not be possible to move the slider away from the open-end fittings unless the pin is in the box to the full extent. If the pin is not held down

、 to the full extent in the box, it will tend to leave the box on moving the slider and in such circumstances, when operating the slider by holding the puller between thumb and forefinger, it shall not be possible to mesh the fastener. 7.7 Quick-release fittings The force required to override the det

、ent to operate the quick-release shall be25N to40N when tested in accordance with Appendix J of BS3084:1992. 7.8 Tape extensions and terminations 7.8.1 At both ends of the closed-end fasteners and at the top end of the open-end fasteners, each tape shall have a minimum length of25mm full width beyond the metal fittings (excluding the puller) of the closed fastener. 7.8.2 Where shuttleless weaving is employed the tape extensions shall have a minimum length of30mm. The tape shall be either: a) heat s
