Because of these changes it has been decided to amend BS4050:1966, redesignated as BS 4050-2, to cover quality requirements and classification only, and to publish a Part 1 identical with ISO 631. It is intended that BS 4050-2 will be replaced by the International Standar

7、d for quality requirements and classification of oak panels as soon as the latter is published. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. 9、s will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS4050:1966 BSI 03-2000 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for wood mosaic flooring made from fingers of any species of wood in patterns to form squares, or other designs, intended to be bonded to a supporting b

10、ase, either directly or over an interlayer, by means of pre-fabricated panels or individual fingers. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the definitions given in BS 565 1)apply, with the addition of the following: mosaic finger small solid wood component of regular form with plan

11、ed or finely sawn faces and edges abnormal coloration coloration which is different from the normal average coloration of the sound wood of a given species black knots adherent knots of a colour in distinct contrast with that of the surrounding wood 3 Wood a) General requirements. The wood used shal

12、l be sound and free from any decay or damage caused by insects which may adversely affect the wearing properties of the wood. Knot holes are not admissible. The face sides of mosaic fingers shall be free of ring shakes, which are admissible only on the backs provided that they are sound and do not p

13、enetrate within 5 mm (0.2 in) of the face. Any preservative treatment of sapwood against damage by insects shall be the subject of special agreement between the purchaser and the supplier and any treatment applied shall not affect either the appearance or the bonding characteristics of the wood. b)

14、Quality. i) First quality (I). B) Wearing surface. The wearing surface shall be free from sapwood, decay, seasoning checks, veins, pockets, abnormal coloration and knots, other than pin knots or black knots with a diameter not exceeding 2 mm (0.08 in). Not more than 5 per cent of the mosaic fingers

15、may contain pin or black knots. ii) Second quality (II). B) Wearing surface. The wearing surface shall be free from decay and from seasoning checks, veins, pockets, black knots and sound knots in excess of the limits shown in Table 1. Not more than one of these defects may be present in any mosaic f
