、Steel pipe flanges and flanged fittings for the petroleum industry. BS4082, External dimensions for vertical in-line centrifugal pumps Part2:“U” type. BS . . . ., Flanges and bolting for pipes, valves and fittings 1) . This British Standard, prepared under the authority of the Mechanical Engineering

、 Industry Standards Committee, is the first revision of BS4082-1 dealing with the standardization of the principal external dimensions of a range of vertical “in-line” centrifugal pumps, and applies to pumps with the “I” configuration of the inlet and outlet branches (seeClause2, Definitions). The s

、tandard has been prepared to provide a range of standard principal external dimensions (metric) for specified duties, to ensure interchangeability of pump units. Pumps of the peripheral or gear type normally associated with small quantities are not precluded from complying with this standard, provid

、ed they conform to the requirements in Clause2 and the dimensions in Table 4. The standard does not require pump manufacturers to produce pumps for all the operating zones defined on the basic selection chart (Figure 1). Pumps for duties outside the zones defined may be developed for inclusion in th

、is British Standard at a later date. In this revision provision has been made for pump flanges to be in accordance with BS. . . ., “Flanges and bolting for pipes, valves and fittings” 1) , or alternatively to BS1560, “Steel pipe flanges and flanged fittings for the petroleum industry”. Both these st

、andards are in metric units. It should be noted that BS. . . . 1)reflects current European practice and is based on the International Federation of the National Standardization Associations (ISA) Bulletin5A(1940), “Pipes and fittings”, which also forms the basis for European Standards on flanges inc

、luding the German DIN Standards. Flanges to BS1560 (Class300) correspond closely to ASAB.16.5 (300) and BS1560 (Class150) correspond closely to ASAB.16.5 (150). It is therefore recommended that in view of the international usage of the type of pump covered by this British Standard, the flange dimens

、ions adopted for castings should be the greatest envelope dimensions (diameter and thickness) provided by these standards. This standard does not provide, at present, dimensional requirements for the flange connection between the pump and the motor, shaft extensions nor shaft ends, but it is intende

、d to include such requirements in a later edition. Requirements relating to the performance testing of pumps are given in BS599, “Methods of testing pumps”. A further standard in this series is BS4082-2, covering pumps with the “U” configuration of the inlet and outlet branches. It is proposed to su

、bmit this British Standard to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as the basis for a future ISO Recommendation. NOTEThe coherent system of units adopted by ISO, known as the SI system, has been used in this British Standard. The pressure unit adopted is the “bar”, which is not i

、tself an SI unit, but which is defined, as10 5 N/m 2 , where the newton (N) is the SI unit of force. The “bar” also approximates to one atmosphere. Information concerning SI units is given in BS350, “Conversion factors and tables”, and PD5686, “The use of SI units”. 1) In course of preparation.BS408

、1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the principal external dimensions of a range of vertical “in-line” centrifugal single-stage pumps of the “I” type, normally driven by vertical close-coupled electric motors. Other forms of drive are not excluded, provided the pump complies with the requ

、irements of2 1). 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the following definitions apply: 1) Vertical “in-line” centrifugal pump. A pump with the inlet and outlet branches arranged in the “I” configuration and having all the following features: a) A vertical shaft axis. b) A driving

、unit supported exclusively by the pump. c) inlet and outlet branch connections, identical in size and rating, lying on a common centre line which intersects the vertical axis. 2) “Close coupled”. A form of construction where the impeller is mounted on the shaft of the driving unit. 3 Selection of pu

、mp The pump size for a given duty point of quantity and differential head shall be determined from the basic selection chart, Figure 1. This is based on a rotational speed of2900rev/min except for pumps designated60D and60E which are based on a rotational speed of1450rev/min. This chart defines the

、zone of operation in terms of quantity and differential head for each pump size, based on the assumption that the liquid handled is clean water at17 C with a mass density of988kg/m 3 . A series of selection charts, Figure 3, Figure 4 and Figure 5, are included in Appendix B, and give guidance on pum

、p selection at rotational speeds of1450rev/min1750rev/min and3500rev/min. These charts have been derived from the basic selection chart (Figure 1) and it should be noted that the quantity/differential head code classification is independent of the rotational speed. Each zone of operation, and the co

、rresponding pump, is defined by reference to a quantity and differential head datum point designated by: 1) A number code classifying the quantity. 2) A letter code classifying the differential head. The numerical values assigned to the codes are given in Table 1 and Table 2. Table 1 Quantity classi

The derivation of the basic selection chart is given in Appendix A. 4 Pressure and temperature ratings 4.1 Pressure rating. Pumps complying with this British Standard shall be manufactured in

The hydrostatic test pressure corresponding to these two series shall be as specified in Table 3. Table 3 Casing test pressure rating The low casing pressure s
