Such a declaration is not to be confused with third party certification of conformity, which may also be desirable.BS4115:1993 BSI 08-1999 3 Annex A (normative) Tests NOTEAll test results should be recorded. A.1 Leakage test A.1.1 Principle The tank is filled with wat

、er containing a tracer dye for a stated period of time and the whole sprayer is then examined for leaks. A.1.2 Procedure Fill the tank with water and a suitable tracer dye to the recommended fill mark capacity. With the trigger valve in the closed position, place the tank on a bench600mm from the fl

、oor and hang the hose and trigger/lance assembly from the sprayer. Leave for15min and then visually examine the whole sprayer for leakage, especially noting hose connection, nozzle trigger valve and the filler hole closure. Examine all entries to the tank for hoses, pump, filler hole lid and the rel

、ief valve if fitted. NOTEThis test should be conducted without any pressure in the tank. It should be conducted with the tank cylinder in the horizontal position. This is because some compression sprayers may leak with no pressure from the filling hole; this is especially the case with elliptical fi

、ller holes which are sealed by a cam action and rely on tank pressure for sealing. A.1.3 Test results Leakage of spray liquid in a test period shall be within the following limits: a) a maximum of5ml from hose connectors, control valves on the lance and similar sites; b) a maximum of7ml from the tan

、k, lid and pressure relief valve. A.2 Inversion leak test A.2.1 Procedure Fill the tank in accordance withA.1.2. Invert the sprayer for5min and examine for any leakage. NOTEThis test should be conducted without any pressure in the tank. A.2.2 Test results Leakage of spray liquid in a test period sha

、ll be within the limits specified inA.1.3. A.3 Hydrostatic test A.3.1 Principle The tank is filled with water containing a tracer dye and pressurized for a stated period of time. The whole sprayer is then examined for leaks. A.3.2 Apparatus A.3.2.1 External piston pump A.3.2.2 Blanking device, to su

、bstitute for nozzle. A.3.2.3 Metal safety cage A.3.3 Procedure Fill the tank completely with water and a suitable tracer dye. By the use of an external piston pump(A.3.2.1) connected to the spray lance after removal of the nozzle, pressurize the test circuit to maximum working pressure. The trigger

、valve should be open and the nozzle replaced by a blanking device(A.3.2.2). Examine all areas for leaks after15min of pressurization. After depressurizing the sprayer, remove the hand lance assembly and connect the external test pump to the sprayer hose. Remove or blank off any safety relief valves.

、 Apply twice the maximum working pressure, plus10% but not less than1000kPa, for1min. The tank shall be enclosed in a safety cage(A.3.2.3). NOTEIt is emphasized that this test is hydrostatic and non-pneumatic. Care is particularly important when conducting this test. If the tank is of non-metallic c

、onstruction, conduct the test at a temperature of21 C. A.4 Tank surface retention test A.4.1 Principle All external surfaces of the sprayer are wetted with a tracer dye for a specified period of time. The surfaces are then swabbed and the amount of dye recovered is then measured. A.4.2 Procedure Wit

、h the sprayer standing on a firm horizontal surface, pour a tracer dye solution over the sprayer so as to wet all external surfaces. Wait for a period of2min with the sprayer standing on a clean and absorbent surface. Then swab the outer surfaces of the sprayer with an absorbent material. Determine

、by fluorimetry or spectrophotometry the quantity of dye absorbed by the swabs. At the same time, inoculate clean swabs with an accurately measured quantity of the tracer which is then recovered to verify the stability and recovery of the tracer from the swabs. A.4.3 Test results A sprayer shall pass

、 the test if no more than7ml of tracer dye solution are recovered from the surface of the sprayer. A.5 Strainer performance test A.5.1 Principle Liquid is poured into the tank to ascertain that the strainer in the filler hole does not cause spillage. A.5.2 Apparatus A.5.2.1 Unprofiled bucket, of app

、roximately7l capacity.BS4115:1993 4 BSI 08-1999 A.5.3 Procedure Pour the entire contents of the tank from an unprofiled bucket(A.5.2.1) at a rate of0.22l/s into the tank, through the funnel in the tank filler hole. Examine for spillage. A.6 Strap drop test A.6.1 Principle The sprayer with filled tan

、k is suspended by its strap and then dropped repeatedly through a specified distance to ascertain that it does not break. A.6.2 Apparatus A.6.2.1 Horizontal bar, of75mm outside diameter. A.6.3 Procedure Fill the tank completely to its design capacity with water and then hang the sprayer by its strap

、 from a solid support comprising a horizontal bar of75mm outside diameter(A.6.2.1), simulating its carriage on the shoulder of the operator. Then lift it a distance of300mm and allow it to drop and hang by the strap25times. Examine the strap. A.7 Solvent compatibility test A.7.1 Principle The tank i
