、1:1968 ii BSI 01-2000 Foreword This standard makes reference to the following BritishStandard: BS 448, Dimensions of electronic tubes and valves. This BritishStandard has been prepared under the authority of the Telecommunication Industry Standards Committee and is one of a series dealing with measu

、rements of the electrical properties of electronic tubes and valves (excluding microwave devices) A related series dealing with microwave electronic tubes and valves is also in course of preparation. The technical content of this standard is identical with IEC Publication151-3, “Measurement of equiv

、alent input and output admittances”. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summ

This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside fron

、t cover.BS4319-1:1968 BSI 01-2000 1 1 Scope This Part of BS4319 outlines conditions to be followed when measuring input and output admittances of electronic tubes and valves (excluding microwave devices). It does not include measuring methods. These conditions include: 1) Definitions of the admittan

、ces to be measured. 2) Measuring conditions. 3) Details of a standard adaptor and shielding. At present these apply to tubes and valves having the following bases: 2 Definitions of input and output admittance For the purposes of this BritishStandard, the input admittance (or the output admittance) i

、s defined as the admittance measured between the points P andQ as described below: P is a point of contact on the pin connected to the input (or output) electrode. It is at a distance between2.5mm and3.5mm (0.0990.137in) from the base seat of the tube or valve (seeA in Figure 1). Q is a point on the

、 reference plane (see4.1) directly beneath the pin on which P is located (seeFigure 1). 3 Measuring conditions 3.1 Maximum measuring voltage. The measuring voltage shall be such that, when applied to the measuring circuit, it shall not cause an alteration of more than1% in the cathode current of the

、 tube or valve to be measured and shall not exceed100mV. 3.2 Electrode supply voltages. The operating conditions of the tube or valve shall be stated. 3.3 Measuring frequency. The measuring frequency shall be maintained within1% and shall be chosen from the following nominal values: 50MHz(Mc/s),100M

、Hz(Mc/s),200MHz(Mc/s) If higher frequencies are required, it is recommended that the nominal values chosen be either500MHz(Mc/s) or1GHz(Gc/s). 3.4 Adaptors. The measurement shall be made with adaptors whose essential features are given in Clause4. These adaptors link the terminals of the tube or val

、ment of input and output admittancesBS4319-1:1968 2 BSI 01-2000 4 Details of standard adaptor and shielding 4.1 Reference plane. The reference plane of the adaptor is the surface of a metal plate mounted within the adaptor and perpendicular to the tube axis. It provides a conductive path between cir

、cuit elements which connect the “other pins” to this reference plane. The reference plane shall be between7.2mm and7.8mm (0.2840.307in) from the tube or valve base seat (seeB in Figure 1). 4.2 By-pass impedance. No metallic contact may be made between the pins and the reference plane as the supply v

、oltages to the tube or valve must be separated from the high-frequency measuring circuit. A radio-frequency by-pass shall be placed between each of the “other pins” and the reference plane to provide a high-frequency connection without metallic contact. NOTEThe impedance of this by-pass is called th

、e “by-pass impedance”. The resistance and the reactive part of the by-pass impedance for the measuring frequency concerned shall be: R 0.3 X 1 NOTEThese values are limited in order to avoid feedback due to the external leads, especially the cathode lead. 4.3 Transfer-admittance of the adaptor. This

、is the transfer-admittance of the four-pole between: 1) the measuring terminals available on the outside of the adaptor, and 2) the points P and Q mentioned in Clause2. The use of an adaptor inevitably results in an error due to its transfer-admittance which is usually inductive. In order to ensure

、that the error is negligible, the inductance causing the transfer-admittance should be kept below1nH. 4.4 Shielding. The shield around the tube or valve influences the results of the measurements. Therefore the dimensions of such shields are standardized in accordance with the following table. The s

、hielding around the space between the bottom of the tube or valve and the reference plane shall have the same internal diameter as the shielding around the tube or valve.
