、1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the way in which units and tolerances for dimensions, capacity, vertical and horizontal loads and mass of glass containers including their finishes shall be expressed. The units for pressure and temperature are also given. In certain cases, such as for

、very small containers, finer limits of expression may be required than those given in this standard. Alternatively, for large containers, the limits given may be unnecessarily precise. In such extreme instances, users are advised to consult with their suppliers. Specifications shall, wherever releva

、nt, carry a covering note to the effect that all dimensions are in millimetres (mm), capacity in litres and/or millilitres (l and/or ml) and mass in grams (g). 2 Dimensions and tolerances 1) 2.1 Body specification 2.1.1 Dimensions (other than radii). Dimensions and their tolerances shall be given to

、 one place of decimals. 2.1.2 Radii. Wherever practicable, radii shall be given to the nearest whole number only. In some cases, for calculation purposes, it may be necessary to express the dimensions to one place of decimals, e.g.1.3 R. NOTEThe letter R is used as a suffix in order to avoid confusi

Height shall be given to one decimal place. 2.2 Finish specification 2.2.1 Dimensions (other than radii)

、. Dimensions and their tolerances shall be given to an accuracy of0.05. 2.2.2 Radii. Radii shall be given to one decimal place except for defining thread contours where an accuracy of0.01may be necessary, e.g.0.86R. 2.2.3 Pitch. Pitch shall be given to an accuracy of0.01. 2.2.4 Plane angles. Plane a

Helix angles shall be stated in degrees and minutes to the nearest minute. 3 Capacities and tolerances 1) For containers of capacities of1litre and over the capacities shall be stated in litres to two decimal places, e.g.1.23 l. The to

、lerances shall be stated in millilitres to one decimal place. For containers of capacities below1litre the capacities and their tolerances shall be stated in millilitres to one decimal place. 4 Mass 1) Mass shall be expressed to the nearest gram. 5 Pressure Pressure shall be expressed in bars to the

、 first decimal place. Since existing equipment for measuring internal resistance pressures is usually graduated in other units, e.g. pounds-force per square inch, pressures may continue to be measured in those units and shall be converted to bars using the following information. 6 Temperature Temper

、ature shall be expressed in degrees Celsius, to the nearest whole number, e.g.25 C. 7 Vertical and horizontal loads Vertical and horizontal loads shall be expressed in newtons (1 newton (N) is equivalent to 0.225 lbf). 1) See also the final paragraph ofclause1. 1 lbf/in 2(psi) = 6.895 10 2bar 1 atmo
