7、red by Technical Committee TCI/72, Furnishing fabrics. It supersedes BS 4723:1990, which is withdrawn. The first edition of the standard, published in 1971, applied only to stretch covers made of nylon but the scope has since been widened to include any fabric of any fibre type. As a consequence of

8、the publication of the Consumer Protection, The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 1) , and the Consumer Protection, The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) (Amendment) Regulations 1989 2) , changes were made in the previous edition to the stretch and recovery requireme

9、nts for fabric. This new edition does not introduce any technical changes but as several standards have been superseded by European Standards, the opportunity has been taken to update the references and to present the standard in current editorial style. A British Standard does not purport to includ

10、e all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Their colour fastness shal

26、l be as given in Table 2. NOTE The sewing needle should be of a suitable type and size so as to avoid damage to the fabric, e.g. small ball-point. 5.2 Stitching Stitch types 504, 512 or 514 of BS 3870-1:1991 shall be used and there shall be not fewer than four stitches per centimetre. 5.3 Seams Seam

27、s shall have a minimum bight of 5 mm. 5.4 Trimming and securing means NOTE In the case of a cover made for a chair or similar unit, the made-up cover should be capable of being adequately secured to the furniture. Possible methods are by looping crossover tape or by using elasticated edges. The colo

28、ur fastness of elastic braids, piping cords, tapes and other trimmings and means of securing, shall be as given in Table 2 except that, where trimmings and means of securing are intended to be concealed during normal usage, only the staining requirements given in Table 2 shall apply. When used, slid

29、e fasteners shall conform to BS 3084 and touch and close fasteners shall conform to BS 7271. 6 Marking The stretch cover shall bear a label marked with the following particulars: a) the name, trade mark or other means of identification of the manufacturer; b) the number and date of this British Stan

30、dard, i.e. BS 4723:2002 5) ; c) instructions or any precautions to be taken concerning care, including cleaning, using the relevant care labelling symbol conforming to BS EN 23758. The label shall be securely attached to the cover, i.e. it cannot be removed without causing damage to the label or the

31、 cover. NOTE The following warnings may also be given either on a label attached to the cover or on leaflets supplied with the cover. “If this article is accidentally snagged, any loop should not be cut but should be pulled through to the back of the fabric.” “Particular care should be taken to avoi

32、d contact with lighted cigarettes or hot cigarette ash as this may cause a hole to form in the fabric.” 4) 1 tex = 10 6 kg/m. 5) Marking BS 4723:2002 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim on or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product

33、 meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is solely the claimants responsibility. 34、arry out the test in accordance with BS EN 25077, using the relevant washing and drying procedures given in BS EN ISO 6330 and taking into account the information given on care of the fabric. Calculate for each specimen the percentage change in area as given by the following equation. Calculate the

35、mean percentage change in area and express it to the nearest 1 %. Indicate whether the area has decreased (shrinkage) by means of a minus sign () or increased (expansion) by means of a plus sign (+). Annex B (normative) Method for determination of stretch and recovery Carry out the test in accordanc

36、e with section 2 of BS 4952:1992 for straight specimens cycling between zero extension and 30 N and record the maximum extension on the second cycle and the residual extension after 30 min relaxation. NOTE For fabrics which extend by more than 100 % under a load of 30 N on the second cycle, cycle be

37、tween the limits of zero and 100 % extension and record the uncovered extension.
