、1998 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the general requirements for acoustic detectors to be used in intruder alarm systems in buildings. 2 References The titles of the standards publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Definitions For the purposes of

、 this British Standard, the following definitions apply in addition to those given in BS 4737-1.1 and/or BS 4737-2.1. 3.1 acoustic detector a detection device designed to generate an alarm condition in response to the air-borne sounds resulting from a physical attack on the structure 3.2 trigger lev

、el the lowest level of acoustic signal within the specified frequency band at the input to the sound detector which, if it persists long enough, will cause an alarm condition to be generated 4 Frequency requirement The manufacturer shall state the lowest and highest frequencies of each frequency ban

、d of the response of the detector to acoustic signals; these limits shall be specified at the half-power points of the response. 5 Sensitivity The detector shall be provided with a sensitivity control set such that the trigger level is not less than15 dB above the ambient noise level, within the fre

、quency range of the detector as measured bya sound level meter complying with the requirements of BS 3489, subject to a maximum trigger level of 85dB(A). Subject to these limits, a variable sensitivity control, if one is provided, shall not permit more than 6 dB variation in the sensitivity. Variati

、on of the sensitivity shall not significantly affect the frequency response. 6 Signal processing The detector shall generate an alarm condition in response to input signals equal to the trigger level lasting for a total of more than 5 s during any overall period of 30 s. The detector shall generate

、an alarm condition in response to any input signal greater than 120 dB(A), as measured by a sound level meter complying with the requirements of BS3489, lasting for more than 100 ms. 7 Power supply An alarm condition shall be generated if the voltage of the power supply to the detector is reduced su

、fficiently to impair the performance of the detector. 8 Environment The requirements of this British Standard shall be met by the detector under any combination of the following environmental conditions. 9 Interference The detector shall be adequately protected against any externally-generated radio

、frequency interference and/or mains-borne interference which may normally be expected to occur within the working environment. 10 Anti-tamper precautions The detector shall be so constructed and mounted that the electrical test and adjustment operations are possible without movement of the device o

、n its mounting. It shall not be possible to adjust the equipment without operating an anti-tamper device.
