Maximum sustained working pressures and hydrostatic stress levels are specified in terms of bar+, but Appendix H gives equivalent values in technical metric and imperial units. The stress used as the
22、 basis for the calculation of minimum wali thickness is 49 bar, at 20 OC. The requirements for the effects of materiais upon water quality have been updated to ecabie pipes complying with this British Standard to be acceptable to UK water undertakings. Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for propylene copolymer pressure pipe in two series. Series 1, for use with potable water, foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals. Series 2, for u
24、se with chemicals, including water at temperatures up to 100 “C. NOTE. The titles of the British Standards referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2. Composition 2.1 Extrusion compound 2.1.1 The compound shall be manufactured from a copolymer of propylene and ethylene where
25、 lhe ethylene content is not greater than 10% by mass and the density is between 0.895 g/cm3 and 0.915 g/cm3 at 20 OC. 2.1.2 The antioxidants used shall be one or more of the following: (1) 2,4,6-tri-(3,5-ditertbutyl-4-hydroxybeenzyl) mesitylene; (2) octadecyl-3-(3,5-ditertbutyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) pro
26、pionate; (3) trb(4nonylphenyl) phosphite; (4) 1 , 1,3-tri-(5-tertbutyl-4-hydroxy-2-methylphenyl) butane; (5) pentaerythritol tetra-3-(3,5-difertbutyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate; (6) 2,6-ditertbutyl-p-cresol. When tested by in accordance with BS 2782 : Method 434D the maximum antioxidant contents sh
27、all be /2 as foiiows: Series 1 pipe compound Series 2 pipe compound 0.35 % by mass; 1.5 % by mass. The compound may also contain not more than 0.5 % by mass of either didodecyL3,3-thiodipropionate or dioctadecyl-3,3-thiodipropionate as determined by the method described in Appendix A. 2.1.3 When bla
28、ck compound is used for Series 1 pipe intended for the conveyance of potable water the carbon black shall comply with the following requirements : Density Maximum volatile matter Average particle size Toluene extract 1.5 g/ml to 2.0 g/ml; 9.0% by mass; 0.010 pm to 0.025 pm; not more than O. 10 % by
29、mass when determined by the method described in Appendix B. 2.1.4 For Series 2 pipe compound the pigment content shall not exceed 3.0 %. 2.1.5 The addition of a manufacturers own rework material produced during the manufacture and works testing of pipe complying with this standard is permissible, pr
30、oviding such material is of the same series. No other rework material shall be used. 2.1.6 The extrusion compound, including any added rework material, when tested in accordance with . c., A test condition 12 of BS 2782 : Method 720A : 1979,shall have a melt flow index not exceeding 1.3: 2.2 Pipe ma
31、terial 2.2.1 Series 1 2.2.1.1 Black. The extruded pipe shall contain 2.5 f 0.5 % by mass of carbon black when tested in accordance with BS 7782 : Method 452B When tested across the pipe wall by the method described in BS 2782 : Method 823B : 1478, the numerical ratings for the dispersion of test pie

When used under the conditions for which they are designed, non-metallic materiais in contact with or likely to come into contact with potable water shall not constitute a toxic hazard, shaii not support microbial growth and shall not give r
35、ise to unpleasant taste or odour, cloudiness or discoloration of the water. Concentrations of substances chemicals and biological agents leached from materiais in contact with potable water. and measurements of the relevant organoleptic/physical parameters shall not exceed the maximum values recomme
36、nded by the World Health . Organization in its publication Guidelines for drinking water quality Vol. 1 Recommenda- tions (WHO, Geneva, 1984)* or as required by the EEC Council Directive of 15 July 1980 relating to the quality of water intended for human consumption (Official Journal of the European
